    Supernatural-Themed Roleplay

A figure moved through the darkness, his head down, his shoulders hunched over. He walked hesitantly, slinking from shadow to shadow, glancing over his shoulder as if to make sure he was not followed. But all of his caution could not protect him from the lightening strikes, lighting up the night, flooding through the window and throwing his larger-than-life shadow upon the old wooden walls. The storm, however, was not completely detrimental, as the pouring rain pounding on the roof, and the occasional crack of thunder over his head muffled the sound of heavy, booted footfalls on the floor beneath him. Were there a bit more light, a person might be able to make out the man's attire. It was nothing special, a pair of worn, blue Levis, and a green Michigan State Spartans hooded sweatshirt under a brown Carhartt coat. The keys that normally jangled from his hip were wrapped tightly in a few hankerchiefs, and stuffed in the coat's pocket. That, however, was not the strangest thing about the man. It also was not his long, white hair, slicked back by the rain. Or his weathered, leathery cheeks, or his green eyes, only slits behind drooped eyelids as he squinted against the darkness. It was the shotgun he clutched to his chest. And even stranger was the ammo. Not shells, but rock salt.

The man walked for an hour. It was a large building, afterall, spanning three and a half stories and consisting of five individual but connected sections. There were endless hallways, multiple staircases, and sprawling rooms consisting of all sorts of traps - old tables, left over museum exhibits, wooden bunks, even a tree stump with a cannon ball lodged within it - but the man ran into nothing. He knew the layout like the back of his hand. It was not what he knew that frightened him. It was what he did not know. What he could not see, even if it was in the middle of the day. Finally, he came to a halt. He was done looking for the thing. If he could not find it while walking, he would make it come to him. The room he chose was located on the third floor. A craft room of sorts, with a hard, stone floor. Tattered, peeling white wallpaper clung pitifully to the bit of wall that was still intact. The rest of the room was surrounded by crumbling bricks. An old table lay in shambles in a corner. This was a part of the building that had never been renovated. It was just as it had been when the Fort became inactive in 1949. Since then, the building had been everything from a museum to an entry location for servicemen. But no one had wanted to go in that particular room. Now lacking the charm it had held when the barracks were built in 1848, it was a bit of an eyesore. And it also made people feel uncomfortable. Gave people the chills. Happy-go-lucky tourists with fannypacks and long socks with sandals noticed that the batteries in their cameras died. Military personnel found that items they had placed in the windowsill moved to the center of the room when they turned their back. Custodians admitted to feelings of immense sadness. But the night watchman knew. That was why he had picked that room.

"I know you are here." He called out suddenly. His voice seemed unusually loud in the damp, dark room. There was an eerie echo from somewhere else in the building, and the sound of it caused goosebumps to race up and down his arms. But he would not be frightened. He had a job to do. "Why don't you just come on out?" Suddenly, the room was filled with a soft creak, a puff of air, and a loud clang as the heavy door closed behind him. The man reached for his flashlight. "There you are," he continued. "Now, let's talk about this. You really do not have to stay here." The more he spoke, the more confident he became. Tucking his shotgun under his arm, he glanced down to turn on his flashlight. Then, he opened his mouth to keep speaking and swung the beam of the flashlight up toward the doorway. Then stopped abruptly.

"That gun will not help you," came a dark, gravely voice.

The man had been the only one in the fort that night, which spanned over eighty three acres. There was no one else to hear him screaming

This roleplay will consist of a core group of individuals who hunt supernatural beings.

In the begining, all hunters will receive a note from a mysterious indivdual, offering them large sums of cash to follow leads and remove whatever supernatural entity is causing problems in that particular area. The beings will be of my choosing when we begin, ranging from the well-known ghosts and demons, to the lesser known creatures, like selkies, wendigos and skin-walkers. And, of course, the good old chupacabra. I will provide information on each creature, so do not stress if your paranormal knowledge is not especially extensive. Once we get further into the story, I will absolutely take requests from you guys if you have ideas.

The setting will cover quite a bit, as we will move from state to state to follow this stranger's leads. Most of the research will be done during the day, and the hunting will take place at night. Yes, I want us to research too. It can't be all about monster slaying.

I have a lot of confidence in your ability to create and control a character - you're all immaculate roleplayers. This particular story will be just as much about how your characters interact with eachother as it is about how they interact with the supernatural. Why does your character hunt? How do they feel about the paranormal? Do they have an extensive history? Do they ever have second thoughts when they destroy something? All questions to be considered when creating your character, and points than can become hot topics amongst characters in-game.

Please let me know if you're interested! This is meant to be a laid-back, non-Althanas roleplay, so don't hesitate to jump in.

Great, thanks for your interest, Phi! If you want to start thinking about a character, I've included a character sheet.

    Here's my character.

    Name: Maggie West
    Gender: Female
    Age: Twenty-Five
    Appearance:

Maggie stands at five foot, eight inches. She has long, red hair, which hangs pin-straight down to the middle of her back. Heavy bangs hide her small, almond-shaped green eyes. A splattering of freckles adorn her cheeks, which are pale as she spends very little time in the sun. Her lips are generally pursed in a slight scowl, and she rarely smiles. She shows little emotion, and many find her difficult to read. The woman only wears makeup when the situation calls for it - attempting to disguise herself, for example. Her outfit of choice consists of blue jeans, work boots, solid-colored t-shirts and her father's brown, Carhartt jacket.

Personality: Once, Maggie was a cheerful young woman. She was bubbly, happy, and warm to everyone. Her smile would light up a room, and many told her that it was enough to make their day. She attended social events, she had friends, she was on teams and in clubs. Then her father died. As she learned more about the realities behind her father's death, and the terrible horrors that existed in the shadows, she hardened. Her smile faded, her eyes grew dark, and she lost that warmth that so many people had once thanked her for. Now, she is often as silent as darkness she hunts in. When she speaks, her voice is measured, monotone and emotionless. Her words are all perfectly chosen, so that she never says anything more than she must. She does not care for displays of emotion, and shies away from even the most harmless pat on the back. She wants nothing to do with friendship or romance. Maggie has dedicated her life to ridding the world of the supernatural, and she cares little for who or what she hurts in the process.

Views on the Supernatural: Maggie blames her father's death on all things supernatural, as he was killed while on a hunt. Her drive to wipe out everything remotely paranormal caused her to drop out of college and hunt using the small fortune her father left behind. For this reason, she feels no remorse killing anything supernatural, regardless of whether it is "evil" or not. There is no "good" or "bad" in her eyes. All things that are not natural must be removed. The woman has been hunting since she was twenty-one, using her father's research and his old friends.

Brief History: There was a time when Maggie was sheltered from all of this. She lived, a normal, happy life. She and her father had been on their own, as her mother died in a car accident when she was young, but they did fine. Her father ran a business, and they never had to worry about money. Maggie grew up in a small Michigan town, attended high school, ran track and field. She had friends. She made even more friends when she went off to Michigan State University to study business. She would follow in her father's footsteps, creating her own business. Maybe she and her boyfriend of two years would settle down and have a family. She thought about it all the time. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. She did not even question her father's decision to become a night watchman at Detroit's Fort Wayne. "I just like history, and I need a new hobby," he told her, and she believed him. They were happy.

Then she met David. While walking back to her apartment from her morning EC 304 class, a large, black Ford F150 pulled up along side her. The driver rolled the passenger-side window down, and Maggie offered a friendly wave and a smile. She assumed it was someone she knew, stopping by to exchange greetings. But the older, African American man with the messy black hair and tattoos was a stranger to her. "Maggie," he called out to her. She frowned, wondering how he knew her name. "Get in the car." When she shook her head, he tried again. "Its about your dad, Alex. Maggie, he's had an accident." That was all she needed to hear. Alex took her to his house, and explained everything. Her father's interest in the supernatural, and his desire to find the spirit of Maggie's mother. His training and time spent as a hunter. His many adventures, and then, his horrible death. "He thought it was a violent spirit of some sort. A buruburu maybe. Something in that fort was making others angry. Two of the workers and three tourists had lashed out at those around them, nearly killing someone and injuring two others. It was getting bad, so he took the night watchman job and started hunting." David took a shuddering breath. "But it wasn't a buruburu he found. I-I think it was a ghoul. And it killed him. I'm so sorry, Maggie."

Maggie locked herself away in her apartment for a few days, overcome with grief and confused beyond imagination. But while standing beside her father's grave during the funeral, she made a decision. She would drop out of school. She would leave everything behind, and avenge her father's death. With help from David and people David introduced her to, she trained. And the first thing she did was return to Fort Wayne to kill the ghoul. The years passed. Another stroke of bad luck befell her, as she watched many of her mentors, David included, fall while hunting. Now alone, she has continued to follow any lead she can get her hands on. For that reason, when she received a mysterious message from a stranger, she did not hesitate to accept the offer. If it meant killing those duck, she would give it her all.

Specialty: Maggie has been working on the cases deemed "lower risk" for the last four years, taking care of wendigos, skin-walkers, shape-shifters, ghosts, even a chupacabra. She also killed the ghoul that killed her father. She has little experience with the "big players," such as demons, vampires and werewolves. Now that most of her father's friends have died (they had provided her with her leads, teaching her and building her up for bigger things), she is eager to move on. Through her mentors, she learned how to protect herself, and how to kill a number of different supernatural beings.

    Constance

    Name:

    Constance (was Konstance)

    Gender:

    Female

    Age:

    28

    Appearance:

Standing at almost 6ft, Konstance is tall for her gender. She has lush black hair that falls beyond her shoulders and deep eyes. Always worth the while she is strong, wise and a darling beauty. Not above the casual flirt she has an attractive laugh, face and personality that attracts various men and women. She dresses close to how she would see herself as a superhero - in tight and revealing clothing, but underneath her attitude is more focused towards dispatching the enemy. She has a soft smile, and fair skin.

    Personality:

Her personality is attractive and focused, but to those who truly know her she has a heart of kindness - but to those only who she believes deserve it. Compassion aside, she is not afraid to get herself dirty, in both a sexual and muddy context. All things aside however, she is a great friend and a focused person. She is skilled in various guns and carries around twin pistols with a collection of various bullets designed by herself to dispatch supernatural creatures. She wears these around her belt in carefully designed pouches. Usually she can also be found listening to loud music as she trains.

    Views on the Supernatural:

Why do your characters hunt? What is their motivation? Do they hesitate to kill? How much experience do they have?
The majority of Constance's determination comes from her background. She hunts because she was trained to, because it is all she knows what to do. It is what she believes, and has been told is her duty, and believes it is for the revenge of her parents' deaths. She hesitates to kill only if there are clear signs that the creature might not be at all evil, or have evil intentions, and though she was raised to be a strong brutal character, she also suffers from a tendancy to be compassionate. With a great many years behind her - little schooling but her hunting career - she is something of a walking library for the methods of protecting against and dispatching supernatural creatures, though has expressed interest before in actually studying their lifestyle and habits. This was denied to her, however, by her godfather.

Brief History: How did your character become a hunter?

Constance has a brave face. As a youngster she was raised in Romania, in the deep heart of the mountains. Of course, she had heard all the rumours from there, the ancient and famous myths, but did not believe them. That was, until one night her mother and father disappeared, and never returned. In their will they wrote that she was to go live with a man they called her godfather, in rural England.
She had never met the man, and had only heard of him being mentioned in whispers at night. But, things were as they were, and so at the young age of five, Konstance moved to the UK and became Constance, ward of the Earl of Hammersmith. Hammersmith told her that the myths of her home were true, and that her parents had been killed by vampires, and that their bodies were never found for they had to be burned by the secret authorities to stop them from becoming vampires themselves. Constance was confused about the explanation, but took it as wrote, and was somewhat pressured into hating vampires and all supernaturals through the methods of wanting revenge. Hammersmith has always been more focused on this, but she has similarly come to tell herself it is what she wants.
Her training took many years, and she was home-schooled in the art of firearms and supernatural knowledge. Most of all she knows how to kill them; the lifestyle study of them was actively discouraged. Hammersmith revealed when she was fifteen that he was part of a secret society, akin to the Masons, who worked to destroy the supernaturals of the world, and told Constance that he was her apprentice, his star pupil and he hoped she would rise to take his place as a Master on it. Constance resists some of this, but she has worked her way through the trials and tribulations to prove herself a worthy fighter. Though there is still a mystery around her parents' death (and whenever she approaches the subject Hammersmith is very eager to change the subject (due to grief, he claims)) Constance fights them often alone, coming back to a strong but reserved home, typical of a rural, English, old-fashioned, aristocratic upbringing.

Specialty: Demons? Ghost? Vampires? Bigfoots? Loch Ness Monsters? Beings that dwell in northern Michigan woods? What do your characters know a lot about? What can they bring to the team?

Constance mainly knows how to kill and protect from most creatures - the basics being vampires, werewolves, witches and warlocks, demons, ghosts and fallen angels. Her speciality has always been vampires and she pretty much knows the entire anatomy and weak points of any child of the night. She had bring a fierce personality to the team, and her various guns with their specialised bullets, designed for each creature. Though she will always favour a mixture of holy water and nightshade if she has no other idea.

Theme Song: A song that describes your characters in some way - their motivations, their ideals, their history or their personality. Optional (but fun).

    Name: Theodore/Cain
    Gender: Male/ Demon
    Age: 24/ Old as fuck
    Appearance:
Theo is an incredibly tall and lanky young man, standing a whopping six foot seven. He's scrawny and incredibly underweight, with a mane of shaggy brown hair that covers his face. His facial features would be handsome except for how gaunt and pale his skin is. His amber eyes are usually bloodshot 24/7 from lack of sleep. He usually stands hunched slightly, and shambles around almost as if he's a zombie. He usually dresses in cargo shorts and a baggy T-shirt, and when it's cold he will bundle up in dark jeans and a baggy black jacket filled with odd pockets. He almost always carries a bookbag filled with miscellaneous odds and ends used to summon demons or other such things. Cain shows up as a sinister blob of darkness, usually surrounding Theo. When not called on, he lurks in the young man's shadow. He tends to not take a truly physical form, but when he does he seems to be an incredibly tall slender humanoid made of inky black liquid, lacking any major defining features.

    Personality:
Theo is quiet for the most part, and rarely speaks unless he has something to say. Cain is quite the chatty one however, and will often speak on behalf of the two. Cain is your stereotypical proud demon, with a dirty sense of humor. Theo will be concise with his words, Cain will grandstand and take too long to get his message across. Theo has a tendency to be a bit on the shy side, especially around women. Cain is a bit of a misogynist and way too touchy. Theo does have the last word on all arguments, his pact with Cain means he can control the creature to an extent.

Views on the Supernatural: Theo is fascinated with the occult and it's secrets. Cain is bored and wants to test his strength against all sorts of demons and monsters.

    Brief History:
Theodore was/is a master at computer programming and has made a small fortune off of various small applications that he has developed since he was approximately 15 years old. With no need to attend school or to get an actual job, he fell into the NEET lifestyle of living alone in an apartment and browsing the computer all day. Bored with programming, Theo went about looking for new hobbies. Browsing an odd board on 4chan titled /X/, Theo found an incredibly detailed guide to summoning demons. Thinking it to be a hoax but incredibly bored nonetheless, he went along with it and accidentally summoned a monster. Having messed up his summoning circle, the demon was free to roam his house, but instead of attacking it simply chowed down on all of his food and passed out on his couch. As it turns out, Theo had summoned a rather friendly demon who dreamed of roaming the earth and seeing the sites instead of stealing his soul. Seeing a chance for something interesting, Theo made a pact with Cain to bind the two together. Theo would wander the world and seek out the paranormal, and Cain would get to see the realm of man and kick some ass.

Specialty: Demonology, Cain has shared a vast majority of his knowledge with Theo due to his long lifespan. He often brings in other "friendly" demons to help in some cases.

There is a darkness in you. In all of us, probably. Beasts we keep chained. Ordinary men have to keep the chains strong, for if we let the beast loose then society will turn upon us with fiery vengeance. Kings though...well, who is there to turn upon them? So the chains are made of straw. It is the curse of kings, Helikaon, that they can become monsters. And they invariably do.

    Name: Cassiel
    Gender: Male
    Age: Timeless

Appearance: His vessel is a homeless Vietnam vet adorned in tattered rags and slacks. He wears shoes that are taped together. His hair is long and brown and unkempt.

Personality: The former angel of tears, his personality is one of solemn solitude.

Views on the Supernatural: Either part of, or a bastardization of God's plan.

Brief History: Cassiel, no personal relation to Castiel, is the former angel of tears, who resided over king's deaths to help those who mourned. When Judaism fell from popularity in the Roman era, his followers believed him to be angel of Saturn. A title he adored. When word spread among heaven that God (Chuck) planned to give his only son into the world, Cassiel openly objected. He grew to much prominence in the Roman reign and did not want to relinquish his influence. As punishment, God stripped Cassiel of his wings and his grace, but not his immortality. He was banished to earth. After two thousand years, his name has been forgotten in the heavens except as a reminder never to cross the lord's will.
