Raiaera Saved from Undead Menace!
by P.J. Pullhearst

Breaking news comes from Raiaera today, where it appears an intrepid group of adventurers braved prison, demons, and bitter elven lieutenants in an attempt to rid Eluriand, capital of the High Elven nation, of the undead menace. The creatures had been haunting the city, attacking travelers, and preventing regular commerce for nearly two years, ever since the necromancer Xem'Zûnd attacked the capital with his army. Though Xem'Zûnd himself fell, his army remained to occupy the outer areas of Eluriand and the surrounding countryside.

Several attempts have been made to free the city, but none have been successful. It appeared that a spell had been laid on the undead which regenerated them even should they fall, and so every assault on the monsters was thwarted by nightfall. However, this group of adventurers -- Skiel dan Sabriel, daughter of Devon dan Sabriel; Poe, of the Hegido; Leon Timyon, the Cat-Boy; and Rainee Azure, another cat-person -- managed to find the key to the spell. Not only did they remove the protection afforded the undead, they also destroyed them through a clever reversal of the spell.

It is an interesting turn of events, for not hours earlier all four were locked in the prisons of Anebrilith, preparing to stand trial on the charge of practicing evil Enarlin magic and entering the Obsidian Spire without permission. However, thanks to a dissenter among the High Bard Council and the insistence of General Damon Kaosi, they were sprung from their prison and allowed to complete the reversal. It was a sheepish Varalad Del Tirin who appeared on a balcony in Anebrilith to issue the following statement:

"We, the High Bard Council, would like to extend our deepest apologies to Wicked Things for their treatment at the hands of our compatriots. Though they broke our laws and broke free of our prisons, they have done us all a great disservice.

"This day will be forever remembered in Raiaera as Liberation Day, and we will not forget the noble efforts of Wicked Things on our behalf. Let exultation sweep through Raiaera, and let the world know that we are once again free to live our lives in peace and serenity."

And exultation is undoubtedly sweeping through Raiaera, at least for the practitioners of magic. The Headmasters and Headmistresses of Istien University have swung open their doors to all, no longer requiring stiff enrollment requirements due to the budget pinches caused by the undead invasion. All are welcome to come learn at Ost'Dagorlin, Turlin, Aglarlin, Lissilin, and a new school: Corien. What is more, they have begun offering those who would learn spells the right to a "Rank" in the schools, and those who are exceptional may even rise to become members of the High Bard Council itself.

To cement the deal, Istien University is suspending ALL tuition fees for two months, as part of a grand jubilee celebrating the end of the occupation.

We indeed have seen history unfold before our eyes. It was indeed a pleasure to keep everyone informed of events. This is P.J. Pullhearst, signing out.
