Trip Through the Forest (Closed to Philomel)

It was early morning and the sun had just started to rise. The pine forest was quite as a little bird landed on a soft spot and, with a puff of her feathers, began to sing her morning song.

As she sang, she didn't notice that the soft spot she was on began to stur.

She had simply been resting, in a quite corner, in a quiet wood. In a world that was dominated By the silence of rest and purity. Around her there was little sound aside from the natural murmurs and wonders of the world. The whistling of wind through the leaves on a tree, the soft croak of a told as he guarded his home, and the babbling of a small stream that wound its way as fate wanted.

She had been resting, and it had been good. Surrounded as she was by all that she loved and all that she held dear there was nothing to stop her from simply enjoying the little time that she had away from the busyness of her normal life. There was nobody here expecting her to deliver orders, there was nobody who was asking for advice, instead the simply peace and it was good.It was a rest that was not quite a sleep, but gave her energy all the same. There she lay in the natural crib made by the great roots of an oak tree, lying on her side and surrounded by the one thing that she loved most of all – earth, vegetation and life.

That was until I nice small creature, only a few grams but enough to make her become aware, trilled loudly and shrilly right beside her innocent ear.

"Hello!" He seemed to cry, "hello, isn't the day glorious?"

Philomel groaned as her gentle peaceful world was torn asunder. Flashing open her steel grey eyes she glared at the bark of the oak tree and felt the weight upon her upper arm as the creature sang once more.
