Description:
Arianthe Vardis is an average woman of average height, with dark red trusses and a fair face. She has weak vision and needs eyeglasses to read, and occasionally to cover up a devious glint. She seems sweet when she smiles, but most baits are covered with honey.
She is highly pragmatic and not overly bound to conventional morals, which makes her efficient. She possesses the confidence and inventiveness of a good swindler, and enough intelligence and viciousness to become a good sorceress.
History:
The Ma’Talzin Order is a shadowy group that deals with secretive, ancient magics, and few know of its existence. The Order took on acolytes, trained them into capable sorcerers and sorceresses, and turned them loose upon the world to do the Order’s biddings. The first rule of the Order is this: do not speak of the Order, lest you lose your tongue.
Arianthe Vardis was born to a lesser member of the secretive Order, planted in the city of Radasanth as an information gatherer. As a child, Arianthe knew only that her mother worked as a fortune-teller, and nothing of her mother’s other work. Her father was supposedly a brave adventurer, but Arianthe only knew a name. She grew up wild in the streets of Radasanth, where she tricked other children during the day and learned her letters and numbers at night under her mother’s patient tutelage.
At sixteen, Arianthe’s curiosity led to her discovery of her mother’s secretive, other work, which then led to a curt conversation about forget these names as soon as possible and no, that man is not a stranger and how Arianthe must tell no one and say nothing, at any cost. Weeks later, her mother passed away under strange circumstances, leaving the young girl to fend for herself.
Arianthe allowed herself a short grieving period, before packing her bags and hitting the road. She spent a year following a trail of names that she was warned to forget, and found breadcrumbs of clues around a mysterious Order. On her seventeenth birthday, she tricked a man into slipping about the Order. He was a searcher, a finder of fresh acolytes to be apprenticed, and he took her to the heart of the Order. Once here, Arianthe began piecing together the story behind the Order and her mother’s strange death. The sorcery lessons were a bonus.
Skills:
Expert Staff-wielding -- She is quite good with a long staff, and can wield one like an extension of her arms. Long sticks are fun.
Survival -- She knows how to forage and fend for herself out in the wilderness.
Linguistics -- She has a gift for learning languages, and has picked up phrases in several different ones.
Abilities:
Force-push -- Three times a day, Arianthe is capable of magically shoving up to three enemies within a half meter radius of her back by three meters. The shove deals no physical damage.
Electric Shock -- Three times a day, Arianthe is capable of producing lightning sparks that can shock a single opponent within a three meter radius. The shock can be uncomfortable for the average target, and can stun an average human for two seconds. Stronger creatures may be slowed instead of stunned.
