View Full Version : Can a change of scenery change motivation?

The last two weeks were incredibly busy for me at university, but despite that I managed to stay very active on the boards.
Now I'm at home for vacation, with nothing better to do than sit around and write to my heart's content, but for some reason I just don't feel like it.
I'm still going to force myself to stay active in all my threads, but I'm wondering... has anyone had a change in scenery influence their desire to write? I have no idea why being here would make me feel less inclined to write, but somehow it has. I've experienced writer's block and pure lack of motivation before, but this is different. I think something about being at home makes me incredibly lazy.
That's odd. Normally, when I'm at school, I have this that and ten other things pressuring me and I'm too tense to write too much.
Then I go home, most of the stressors are gone, the stressors present can be ignored, and I power stuff out like nobody's business.

I've had that same problem before, but only in a similar manner. When I'm at home, I find that I am less inclined to do much of anything and writing posts almost seems like a chore compared to here at Uni.

I don't think pressure has much to do with it... to be honest I never really feel stressed out even in crunch time. It's easy enough for me to just stop thinking about stuff.
Right now I'm hoping this is just some kind of subconscious reaction to not having anywhere to be or any assignments to hand in. Hopefully in a few days I'll get aclimatised and become a real go-getter again (because that's obviously what I was before ;)).

I generally just don't want to think shortly after I'm done with school. It's as if the neurons in my brain want a break from thinking. Althanas is often a casualty.
Maybe after being rested for a few days, you'll want to write more.

I like writing during school, when my brain is the most active.

Well, that's completely opposite of my situation, methinks.
At home, I have virtually no concentration on anything. I'm either doing the laundry, sweeping the floors, raking the leaves and just general house-keeping stuff. Suffice it to say, I barely have a half-hour to myself not counting bed time.
When I'm at the University, I have plenty of time to catch up on things, beat my poor roommate in a game of Defense of the Ancients and work on various other projects I've been working on.
Still doesn't give me a lot of free-time, though. Because there is no such thing as Free-Time in Thai Education System. :p

Could it be that when you are home, there is lots of fun stuff you can do, while at the U, althanas is one of the few fun things? Just a thought.
I was gone for a long time because my internet connection severed. But the timeing was good, 'cause my brain shut down and I stopped coming up with good ideas for stuff.
(Just to let those smart alecs out there know, my brain really didn't shut down and put me in a coma, so don't reply something to that effect please.)
