Err, Hi. I'm not all that good with introduction posts, but here I am anyways. :nervous grin:

This is actually the first online RP I'll ever have done... well, once I find myself a quest or battle that is both open and fitting for my character I'll have my first post in a forum RP ever. So please, information on how this actually works if I mess up is highly appreciated. I promise to not make the same mistakes too often. ^^;

Umm... let's get this straight, first of all.

We give the cookies to you, Nya. Or, if you prefer, some other kind of baked good.

:D

*Offers you a row of fresh-baked baguettes*

Welcome to Althanas! If you love writing and acting out your favorite characters, this is the place for you!

My first suggesting is to look around the Role-Player's Corner if you are looking for a quest to join or make up your own! Don't be afraid to ask us Mods and other players if you can't find the asnwer to your questions around the site. Or just post in the Your Word forum if you need a large sample of opinions.

Above all, good luck and have fun! We will be watching.

hihi and welcome^^

*Takes a cookie* Thanks first time I've been offered one instead of the other way around.

The most common mistake most new people make is bunnying other people's characters. That is to control the other characters actions without their permission and that can lower score and some people don't have patience for it.

An Example of this is:

"Jineh smiled widely as she tripped Leon with her tail."

A simple solution is to add a phrase like 'tries to' or 'attempt'

"Jineh smiled as she attempted to trip Leon with her tail."

That implies failure so you won't have to worry too much. And for NPCs you can control them as much as you want for the most part.

Powergaming's another mistake but that's a bit easier to avoid, just have your character make mistakes and don't do stuff that you didn't get approved for. Mundane tasks are sort of an exception, your PC doesn't need a cooking skill to make some nice food but don't expect to act like a master chef. It's mostly combat and shooting a fireball when you haven't been approved.

those are a couple of tips but the best advice is to put effort into your RPs and have fun, don't worry too much about mistakes as they just lower your score in the thread and just learn from them. Just be sure to have fun.

*hugs for the cookies^^*

Woo! Fresh meat!

First of all, you may want to register yourself a character. I don't know if you have done that already, but it's the first step on Althanas. You can't do any writing until your profile has been approved by a Realm of Greeting mod. If you have any confusions over that, check out the Registration Forum and the registration archive, that would give you a good idea as to how the layout of your profile should be. You can also talk to any of us mods about pretty much anyting on the site and we'll be able to help you out.

When you're looking for a quest or battle to join, check out the recruiting forum in The Role Players Corner, someone might have something up. If nothing meets your needs, you can always throw up your own recruitment and then decide who you want on your team.

Despite how crazy we are here, we're still rather friendly. ^^

Just don't go into any back rooms or anything until you know them. That way it isn't a surpise.

*gnaws on new person*

Also remember to check out the bazaar later, and to PM any questions to any mods! We're here to help! Hell, just post any questions here and someone else will get to them quickly as well.

Welcome to Althanas, have fun when you join a thread, and don't worry...we're pretty patient with our newbies. And if you have questions/uncertainties, just ask.

: takes baguette : Thankies. I promise mine weren't poisoned or anything... just maybe a little evil. : pokes Cthuloid tentacles :

I was wondering what bunnying was... glad someone mentioned it. I'll do my best to avoid it :D I'll probably do alright with the powergaming, as my character is designed to not be overpowered in any way. I find them more fun that way ^^ : pets Meg :
I've already registered and gotten her approverized, so I assume the next step is the Bazaar and finding a quest thread she'd work in?

The bazaar is only if you actually need something. If you don't yet, save your gold for something you might like later on down the road.

Welcome to Althanas. I like the simplicity of the character. It's not choked down with ridiculous details and a convoluted back story like some people tend to do.

I'd go to the Bazaar. Though I have fun RPing there even when I'm NOT buying anything. Must make the forum moderators just oh so thrilled!

Streetrat
12-17-07, 03:35 PM
Ah, okay. Then I think I'm good for now... but I may just lurk around the Bazaar anyway, given that Meg is a little street rat in the area. :D

And thank you - that's exactly what I tried to do. Ridiculousity and me are very good friends, actually, but I attempted to ignore her whispers for Meg. ^^

Hey there person I've totally never met, and don't know at all...yes, yes... not at all... <.< >.>

A person who may or may not be known to both of us and might be well known for being totally oblivious totally did not warn me of your coming, and thus I have no idea who you are.

(Course, if you're not who I don't suspect you to be, this post will make noooo sense, and I'll feel rather like a fool) =P

Streetrat
12-17-07, 04:17 PM
Hullo. I assume the person who you are totally not talking about is completely not Earthwalker? Because, you know, I really don't know him at all, and neither do I know you. =P

Speaking of which, can you remember what that cyborg of mine's name was? I can't, and feel silly about it. ^^;

Kovalai
12-17-07, 04:41 PM
Um...I don't at all. All I remember about her was that she was shiny. That game 'sploded after that one session, was very sad, I had so many plans, plots, and schemes too ~tear~

I blame the schools.

More importantly, if you want to do some kind of quest type thing, I was talking to the earthwalker about coming up with some sort of quest for his doc, Rûn (one of my other characters who hasn't gotten to do anything yet), and your midget =P

Yum. New blood.

Welcome to hell. Please, keep your arms, legs, tentacles, and whatever kind of other appendages you posses inside the ride at all times, lest we grow hungry and start chewing on them. And please, do not feed the kittens. The bones of victims past stll haunts us to this day. *chews on a thigh bone*

In other words, make yourself at home, where the only rule we have is don't put your feet on the table. Other than that, you can go craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy!

Ah well. It was worth a shot. Guess I can come up with a new name for her, then. That really is a shame... from what I saw, it looked really fun. I suppose I'll end up using her in something else eventually.

I'd totally be up for a quest with you guys. Doc Sid seems like a very wonderful character for Meg to interact with, given her total lack of interest in being proper. Give me Rûn's profile so I can check that over, yes?

... Meg isn't a midget, she's just short. : pouts :

Pfft, not a midget? She's five feet tall! Did you forget who you're talking to here? =P

But anyways, here's Rûn's profile. (http://althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=9874) Have fun with it, though there isn't all that much there =P

5 feet tall is not a midget. Midgets are more like 3 feet tall or 4 at most.

If someone is short enough to use as an armrest, they're a midget :p

Welcome aboard!

Streetrat
12-18-07, 04:11 PM
Yes, I remember. I also remember how I'm not even half a foot taller than her normally, and you can see quite a bit over my head. :/
... I suppose Aeraul could easily use her an an armrest. But then again, he can probably use a lot of people as armrests.

Yay more newbie!

*gnaws on*

You'll find most people on Althy at 6 foot Plus for some reason. OR have TERRIBLE slouches like Leon.

Streetrat
12-18-07, 04:53 PM
Heh, maybe it's just a bunch of people either withing they were taller... or are actually tall, and like being so. :3

/feels short again

AdventWings
12-19-07, 12:39 AM
Hey, I am six-feet tall, you know.

Can't say the same for Aeraul. Maybe he's five feet six?

;)

*Dodges an AIM-9 Sidewinder*

:D

And there's nothing wrong with being short, Nya. Easier to get away with stealing stuff, actually. Tall guys are at a disadvantage at getting away from stuff they do.

Karuka
12-19-07, 12:50 AM
I'm short and kind of like it. I don't bump my head on things, I don't need much space, and it's really easy to go get a chair if something's too high...and it very rarely is. Besides, I can get people to do stuff for me because somehow short = cute.

Streetrat
12-19-07, 01:05 AM
Heh, yeah, I'm of the short crowd. Although, I'm exactly at the wrong height for smacking my head on the bottom of cupboard doors when they're left open by my taller roommates. The edge is enough above eye level that I just don't notice them. =P

Cyrus the virus

I can steal things and then frighten nearby people with my height :) No need to be sneaky!

I'm forever linking to that post whenever I make a short joke to you Karu.

Course, I'm give or take Leon's height as it's stated, so I'm good. I also have a terrible slouch, so doors aren't a promblim.

On the other hand, I have three friends all over 6 feet tall, with one at 6'5" ish, so I just need to be a little bit more commanding to get their attention.

Earthwalker
12-20-07, 11:28 AM
I don't know why everyone is so fixated on doors. The standard opening is designed to be 6' 7" in hight, so most all but the very, very tall can get through them. Me, I'm 6'4", so I can say with fair certainty that the only thing I worry about is low branches.

Seriously.

AdventWings
12-20-07, 01:17 PM

But I hear you about those low branches deal. *points to the tiny scar running across his face as an encounter with a rather thin but thorny one*

Earth, lovely. No, the only thing you had to deal with was my bitching at you when you left the cabinet doors open and I'd smack into them. ;)
