Ugh @ testing the game. Took me a good two hours to play it and fix all the mistakes I found. I did discover, however, that my dialogue is somehow hilarious.

I desperately want to give away some of the NPC dialogue in this game, but... Ooo, gotta keep it secret. Some of it's just great, if I may stroke myself for a moment.

First I need to make monsters for Concordia, test how strong each is to balance it, place the monsters in certain areas to make getting treasure not so easy, create the part of the storyline that takes place here, write the whole thing, play through Concordia several times to make sure balance issues don't arise, and make sure the treasure you get isn't too powerful by balancing that.

Then I can work on the next place. Ha...

If the forest has a clear cut path, doesn't permit walking into, I don't know, the forest part of the forest part of the forest, and leads to treasure, why, in the past millenium, has nobody bothered to WALK THE ENTIRE PATH?

It makes more sense for treasure to be passed over when you have to, I don't know, explore the wood, than it does for treasure to be passed over when it's at the end of a linear progression with walls made from trees. :-p

Just a general problem I've always had with RPG forests. It's not just you. Morrowind may be one of the few exceptions...if you found the Thief Ring in Addamasartus, congrats...that thing is HARD to find.

Eluriand is the biggest, most ridiculous thing I've ever aspired to make with this program... I'm trying ridiculously hard to make it huge and good, the largest city in the game, and the most populated. I've made the main castle and two houses in 3 hours. The castle looks awesome, if I do say so myself... At least the outside.

I wonder if the fact that this RPG will take another 10-40 months to complete will deter you guys :( I'm working hard!

I'd let you guys play a demo, but to be perfectly honest, demos really ruin surprises. Nobody's going to want to play through the beginning of the game more than once!

I know, but... Yeah. I want to please the masses. What sucks is that I have these plans for the last boss, and the optional bosses and characters, but I don't want to just trudge through the rest of the game just to get to that point. But that's what it feels like I'm doing.

Eluriand should take a lot of time to get through, with many events happening, then it's the black desert which leads to Salvar. Anyway, it's fun to make, I just hope it turns out okay. It's impossible to please everyone, and that makes me sad :p

On Althanas it's entirely easy to please everyone. Just put a lot of people's chars in, then make two special rooms for when you beat the game. One has two lesbains and the other has two gays in it. I think that would just about do it.

Ya I know it sucked (sorta) but I mean some peoples characters won't even be in the game, so a little in game tournment you can go to in order to win prizes would be a neat comprimise. If you want a better example: How about the the Roman Col' or the area in Tales of Destiny 2.

For whatever reason, I've been working on this for about a half hour, and I think I'll be resuming extensive work on it, heh. I'm almost done making Eluriand, then I need to add all the insides of the buildings, the people, chests, music, etc.

Then I need to replay since my last save, remember the characters and such, and then go from there.

Storm will get some supporting baddies to stand with him and Dan. Scott Uppercut will receive a base of operations, similar to Suikoden (though not as awesome, of course, and all kinds of stuff.

I think Eluriand made me tired of making this game, but it should be fine for a while :p

No I can't make your ship. I really can't go into that much detail with each character. I didn't make the university, but rather a 'main castle building'!

Anyone who is familiar with the RM2k program knows that it's a decent, easy maker to use. I've begun to work on an Althanas RPG, featuring a character who begins with the approval process, and then sets on his journey. I plan on having him pass through the continents and meet countless Althanas members. If you have any non-storyline or non-character-dialogue ideas, please post them here! If you're good with maps and have the program, you can ask me if you can make one and I'll let you (just so we don't both make a Radasanth City, and such).

This is by no means an official Althanas event, just something I decided on doing. I've had the program for years and haven't finished a full game, so it's not even guaranteed than I'll finish it. But I'm determined to follow through with this one.

Please, any cool ideas you have, PM them. That way they will remain a surprise to everybody. Storyline ideas? PM. Dialogue? PM. Areas to visit, people to meet, side quests? PM.

Or just show support/criticisms.

ok, so i realize, that i've done a big 'no no' and jumped around to look for th basic content of this thread and it seems like a heck of a 'lotta work for one person to have charged to himself. Maybe you have already recruited peoples to help, but I know for a fact, based on hundreds of great ideas that failed due to the lack of programming customability in RPGmaker 2002 that different and unique stories and actions are hard to do. However, I would like to say that the most beneficial thing I have ever done with the program was master the chip sets and pixle art using paint. THis allows me to make new characters and monster chipsets easily but lengthy. I could (if it wasn't already remedied earlier) begin production of players on or around christmas as soon as I get my original machine back up to my new house if it's necessary. I'd be more than willing to help in some way.

I tried to make a game about this character here using masks as switch items to change his appearence and skills in battle, as well as making the masks usable outside of combat, but it was so overwhelming to be able to switch all the images and skills for combat. Good luck though.

Cyrus, I need to know exactly what your trying to do. If your going to make this single player then I can't help you much. Though if your going to make it into an MMORPG so people can class together, then your going to need to change your game engine to RMXP or RC (3D). Though I wouldn't recommend using RM2000 or 2003 because you can't make useful battle systems, effects, etc.

Well, then he will encounter yet another problem because you can't have multiple playable characters in RM2000 nor 2003. Unless he would care to make individual copies for everyone I can't see this being possible aside from the fact that he would have to know, with great aspect, the event system.

What he means by playable characters is characters that join your party. It operates, as I understand, like a classic NES RPG in which there's one main character, and then there are Althanas characters that make cameos as party members, villains, villagers, etc.

A friend of Master Raven who made a 3-hour RPG using the original RPG Maker program said it took him three months to finish. Mind you, that was close to ten or so years ago so I guess the complexity for today's version will likely take longer.

WoW was insanely boring. I spent a good 72 hours merely running from one place to the next. And the strength difference of 3 levels was life or death. Alright folks. I'm interested in starting up a new game, but I want it to not be an Althanas RPG. So I'm going to give you what I made up to this point, before I start something new.

Extract all the files into the same folder, then run Setup to install the software or whatever. Then go into the winRAR file and run the .exe, should work fine.

Sorry if it doesn't work very well, I've never actually shared a created game before, and many tutorials have been taken off the net since RM2k declined in popularity.

You'll be able to play the game up until Eluriand, if everything works properly, but the story doesn't progress much after that. There are some treats in there to see, though, so enjoy that.

EDIT: First problem fixed, now another problem.

For some reason, I have absolutely no text. Instead of "Start/Continue/End Game" at the beginning, I have a blank text box. I can scroll through and select these options -- I can even start the game. But when I do, during dialogue I see character avatars, but in an otherwise empty text box. Basically, the text is not appearing.

What sort of problem am I having?
