It's not secret that this game made a pretty big entrances. Hell, it's the spiritual successor to Knights of the Old Republic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_of_the_Old_Republic), so it had to attract some attention. Bioware (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bioware) studios didn't need to do much advertising.

I have to thank Letho for bringing this game to my attention. I had just bought my 360, and felt buyer's remorse. Assassin's Creed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassin%27s_creed) was the only game I was really excited about, and is an expensive next generation system worth just one game?

Well, if it was, that game would be Mass Effect. I can honestly say I've never felt so good after beating a game. I can only compare it to KotOR, but it's so much more.

The choices seem real. Evil choices actually have merit to them and aren't just some whiny rants of an angst-ridden teen with a lightsaber and robe. Ever single piece of dialog is well written and each character, at least your crew, feels real. You find yourself actually thinking about the words you will utter.

The ability to chose your history at the beginning of the game is a sort of cherry on top to an already incredible cake. I won't spoil the story for you, but there is one scene towards the end where you decide if the calvary arrives or not. My chick was pretty Paragon ("good"), so I called them in. And, my friends, that cut scene nearly brought a tear to my eye as I rocked on the edge of my seat.

The game itself has flaws, but I can't help comparing it to KotOR again. Whatever flaws you'll find, you're bound to overlook them because the game, the storyline, and the epicness is too much not to enjoy.

Enough of my rants though. Who has played it, wants to play it, or (as the only other logical choice) hates blacks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racist)?

I suppose given the alternatives, I must hate blacks. I really don't think I do, but apparently because I have no interest in Mass Effect, I must.

yeah I love that game^^ It's by far my favorite game on the next gen systems. I mainly played the paragon as well since I'm nice but one thing I like is the game doesn't punish you for doing something dark now and again so the choices arn't as obvious like KoTOR or Jade Empire. It allowed me to play closer to how I am than having to worry about having light side points.

I also love the combat system, it's not the best in an FPS but it's great and relies more on player skill than levels. Though I hate thresher maws, they suck and give no exp while being a harder fight than the final boss battle.

You're right. I fucking loved the combat system. To be completely honest, I think any FPS that uses a cover system is inherently great, as just running around and jumping seems stupid. I can't tell you how many times I got beat down in KotOR because of a simple wrong spell at a wrong time.

Mass Effect really relies on skill, a good eye, and some serious tactical planning *cough*whichoftenhadmesendingmymeninfirst*cough,* Hiding, running, and a good blast from biotic power could win the day against any enemy.

I have no idea how to place a spoiler tag. When I figure that the fuck out, I'll go into more detail. But I need to rave about the choices some more.

There were times in KotOR when you chose which of your crew would do what, sometimes towards the end, you'd break up in teams. Well, that actually means something in Mass Effect, because there will be incredibly tough choices in the middle of a battle. I have never had to actually sit for five minutes just to think of what I will do.

The dialog is another thing. It's absolutely mind blowing to me how real it feels. There were times in KotOR when talking was basically this.

Alien: Hello Human!

1. Hi.
2. Yo.
3. DIE YOU FUCKING CUNT.

You won't see anything like that in Mass, and the fact that your character talks is pretty damn convincing.

I've heard plenty of amazing things about it, and in the event that hell freezes over and I buy a 360 with my tax return, ME is probably one of the games I'd end up renting just to see what the hype was about.

But most RPGs post Chrono Trigger don't really do anything for me, so I'd probably sink five hours into it and call it a day.

No offense, but, Assassin's Creed is better on the PS3. Although I would love to try out Mass Effect since I am a huge BioWare freak, my want to play Assassin's Creed and get a PS3 overwhelmed everything else. Besides, Assassin's Creed's graphics are better on PS3 anyways. :P

I will only... only get a PS3 if it comes with Ace Combat 6 and is within my wallet's power to buy such.

...now it looks like I have to add Mass Effect to the list. Darn you! :p

EDIT: Why did you have to remind me about BioShock, Grim?

*Adds the game to his growing list of games despite trying not to*

Bio Shock

Call of Duty 2 & 4 (3 sucks)
Rock Band
Virtua Fighter 4
Dead or Alive 4

Bioshock - maybe. I could always just play System Shock 2, it's in space and not steam punk.
Guitar Hero - I can play 2 on my PS2, and who the hell wants three?
Halo 3 - Just...no.
Call of Duty - Again, no. I like a cover system.
Rock Band - Needs a better name. Also, you need friends for that.
Virtua Fighter 4 - I like my Soul Calibur.
Dead or Alive 4 - I have it. Terrible. The story is laughably bad and it's made for twelve year old boys with overactive hands and constantly leaking dicks.

Gasp! Not get bioshock? Also, steam punk? Nono, you don't understand, bioshock isn't steampunk, I don't even know what it is O.o. But really, bioshock is, perhaps the best shooter that has been made. The gameplay isn't particularly innovative, and it functions rather like you would expect an fps to function. But, it is so amazingly well executed that that doesn't really matter. You do have a plethora of weapons that really function massively different, along with the ability to customize your character's superpowers (as it were).

This is all very nice and good, sure. But, the real reason that I think bioshock is a must buy for anyone who ever considered owning a 360 is that it isn't just a shooter, it's that the environment/atmosphere, the story, it's all perfect. I may be exaggerating but I don't think I am. The game is gorgeous, in story and visuals, and fucking scary as hell.

You might end up disagreeing, but what I suggest to everyone, is download the free demo, which is the first 10-15 minutes of the game, and try it out. It's awesome.

Also, Mass effect is fun, the unlockable difficulties are actually really tough. Dialog rules, I wish the differences between renegade and paragon had some sort of minor effect on the game at all.

This is a fun game Cory ;) Lets see, a few I forgot to mention

Chrome Hounds
Crack Down
Saints Row (soo much better than GTA)
Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
Gears of War
The Ratchet and Clank games
Burn Out: Revenge
Condemed: Criminal Origins

Chrome Hounds - It was mentioned in VG Cats. Thus, anyone who buys it is a furry.
Crackdown - I have it. It's really not that much fun. It doesn't even feel very next gen. to me. And, what the fuck would anyone want driving skill for? You can jump a building!
Saints Row - Soo much better than GTA still doesn't say much.
Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion - Couldn't get into Mirrowind.
Gears of War - A maybe, but the art style is penis-pulsating, giant muscle man Rambo style, which turns me off.
The Ratchet And Clank games - Not-A-Furry.
Burn Out: Revenege - Not big into crashing cars. I know, weird?
Condemed: Criminal Origins - I'm weary of any game that fell so dramatically in price so quickly.

Shyam, my statement already poked fun at me. Please don't point it out and make a joke less subtle.

I played Rainbow Six: Vegas a little today

I kind of liked it.

And I'm pickier than you about what games I play.

I'm not really into fantasy shooters like mass effect it reminds me too much of star wars. And I didn't like Bioshock i thought it was crappy to be honest and how it won game of the year on spike channel is beyond me.

I'm more into real life shooters. I'm a big military guy so Call of Duty 4 is where its at for me glad it won game of the year in game informer though. I also like Rainbow six Vegas. And I'm into games like Assassin's Creed and Oblivion.

There's your explanation right there.

Only thing they ever did right was MXC.

hahaha I have to agree with that. MXC is the funniest show ever I cant remember one episode where I haven't laughed. Halloween episode is the best I think Queerwig for the win.

You simply have not experienced next generation gaming until you have had a lesbian relationship with Liara T'soni.

Lucien

I'm gay, and even I thought it was fucking hot.

Although I found it a little tacky that my character got dressed so quickly...

Oh, wait. Right.

I'm gonna go be a fanboy and say: it was no lesbian relationship! Liara is mono-gendered! Technically. She shall have your baby!

Arsène

She had tits.

Mass Effect was as close to girl on girl action as any guy anywhere is going to get.

Zerix

You are right about that. But she shall still bear your child!
