Shortly, I will begin to list the categories for the 2008 Althies awards. Nominations for awards begin as soon as the categories are posted, and will end on January 18th at Midnight American EST.

I will allow players to nominate themselves, but these nominees must then be seconded by others. All nominees will be voted on in polls that open shortly after the nomination process ends. These will be one player, one vote. If you have multiples and you vote with both (or more of them) ALL your votes will be ignored, and the forum reserves the right to take additional disciplinary action should it seem like this was is an intentional act.

Feel free to ask any questions here.

Some suggestions... I don't care if you agree or not but here they are:

"Best Anti-Villain" - You got Hero, Anti-Hero, and Villain, so why not?

"Best Character Interaction" - Focusing on a more general relationship or maybe a specific event, it best defines an inter-character relationship. Between two friends, enemies, etc.

"Best Drama" - You got funniest quest, why not saddest?

"Best Supporting Character" - Shedding some limelight on lesser characters in supporting quests. The kind that follow around, augment, and enrich the storylines they're part of-- even if they're not the center of attention.

That's all. You don't have to add these, and it's already sort of late, but there you go. Don't hurt me!

While you are at it, may I offer up the idea for a Most Improved catagory?

I'm of two minds. There are still 5 days to nominate, so it shouldn't be a problem that way, but we already have a lot of categories.

I decided to go and make the "Most Improved" "Best Character Interaction" and "Best Supporting Character."

I'm not adding Best Drama, because such a majority of Althanas threads are dramas that the other best quest threads make it redundant, and I'm really not sure what an anti-villain is. If you post or PM me with an explanation I can put in the thread, I'll add it.

You see a lot of real "evil" villains around here. You also see a lot of good guys, and a lot of good guys that are the antithesis of traditional heroic values, the anti-heroes.

Um, I think this says it best: The converse of an anti-hero (i.e., a protagonist who isn't purely good or heroic), an anti-villain is an antagonist who isn't purely evil nor entirely unsympathetic -- a character who doesn't seem to deserve being cast as the villain, perhaps cast arbitrarily as the villain because they are not the focus of the story but merely present a foil to the central figure, who may be an antihero protagonist.

You can't really be sympathetic to crazies like Dan and Luc, or whatever other sadist characters we have running around, but there are lot of people who certainly aren't anti-heroes. I think there are a lot of anti-villains on Althanas, anything centered around gaining power or achieving some sort of wicked goal but doing so in a manner that you can sympathize with. It's not really as complicated as all these words make sound... You can not include it if you want. I just brought it up because I identified as an anti-villain and I know lots of other people fit the description and if you're gonna have anti-hero on there, might as well have its counterpart as well.

edit: To give some perspective, a couple well-known anti-villains are Magneto and Venom.

Not sure how many of them we have running around Althanas at the moment, but your category is added.

Aww, thank you.

I'd like to suggest another category.

'BEST RAPE SCENE'

Im suggest a " Most Bad-Ass Character " poll. Take it or leave it. I think it would be cool.

We already have most intimidating and a bunch of other categories that would get at "badassery," so I'm going to say no there.

I'm going to suggest whoever created the original Althies be given a life time achievement award in the form of oral sex.
