I'm sure it will be interesting to read how you came up with the ideas behind your characters. Here we go.

Please post ALL of your characters' names that you may or may not have on other accounts, then your ideas behind them, in the easy-to-read format as show below.

Legion=I read a list of demon names in literature (Mostly Bible and other misc religious texts) and found Legion. I then just put demonic abilities to him, with a backstory to support it.

Let's see how this goes.

Let's see...two out of three of my Althanas characters were literally imprinted out of my writing to some extent, and have a lot of private inspirations I won't mention since I haven't gotten published yet. Outside of those, though...

Caden was largely the result of me wanting to play a pointy-hat wearing Wizard. His main external inspirations are Rincewind (the talent for languages, the sardonic attitude, the pride of Wizardry despite his circumstances, so on and so forth), and a few random bits of artwork I saw for a series called Black Blood Brothers (specifically one character whose name I don't know; wore a pointy hat, a trenchcoat and goggles though).

Rowan was basically Grimjaw Jaggerjack after being put through one of my universe's crazy-ass concept megablenders. He's actually not all that similar to his written counterpart yet (who's really only a historical bit character in the long run, complete with a different last name), but sooner or later I'll get off my ass and smash him around until he fits in. His martial arts style was heavily influenced by Rock Lee, Shinobu Sensui and a few fighting games; I might toss in Street Fighter II's Guile just for the hell of it.

Aeraul just sorta...popped up. I think he was my answer to all the elves and furries and Generically Awesome And Pretty!-types, as well as the half-humans who were only nominally human at best. In large part, I was thinking of characters like Star Trek's Worf (disdainfully) as I was writing him. The empathic abilities were inspired by Warhammer 40,000's WAAAAAAAGH!!!, his appearance was inspired by a small bit of art from a D&D book, and his style of dress was meant as a direct rejection of the Tribal Orc stereotype -- even though I decided to give a nod to Green is the New Black in the backstory and the presence of Aeraul's orcish name. He only made an appearance (with a completely different backstory and an altered skillset) in my writing after I made him here, so I guess I owe Althanas for that.

NPC-wise, the only one whose origin I remember is Derris Warson. Dawn of War's Space Marine Force Commander Unit with a Daemonhammer, plus the Imperial Guard Command Squad Leader. Tack on the joys of undeath and voila.

Hoh~ Are you really sure you want to know mine?

I just let the people in my head out to play. They write their own stories, their own characters. I don't create a character based on what's cool or not. Rather, I create a living and breathing person and then giving them abilities and other cool stuff that might fit with their personality later.

And I can't remember how many guys and girls roaming about Cyberspace and real life came from this simple concept.

;)

...hate to be a heel here, but I think pretty much everyone does that. Some of us are just honest enough to admit where we get inspiration from. >_>

Well, yeah, I figured that as much. :D

On average, I really can't pinpoint where they come from. Sometimes it's things I read in books. Sometimes (well, most of the times) it's the secondary characters from my favorite manga. I take their personality essence and give them new names, new looks. They're there, I just don't know from where.

:p

So I guess that's my take on it.
