Quick Fix
Name: Pel
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Hair: Light brown; unkempt and generally short
Eyes: Dark brown and facially proportionate
Height: 6’ 3”
Weight: 140 lbs.
Physique: Tall and lean; skin and muscle wrapped tightly around bone, but hard as iron
Occupation: Schemer
Behavior
To sum it up, Pel is a strange individual, perhaps a bit insane. Of course, when one encounters outlandish things, other labels tend to creep onto one’s tongue: evil, barbaric, freakish, etc. And to be truthful, each of those words can apply in some way to Pel’s personality—at times. He can be very whimsical, you see: perfectly polite in some instances and rude as a drunken orc in others; however, the emotional spectrum for him is very limited. He knows happiness and sadness, excitement and boredom—only in mild degrees, though. Morality is not a core element of his character, either; he allocates his “values” at times when they best suit him. One could call him Machiavellian, and in the sense that the word is often used, one would be pretty damn accurate doing so.
Not that he really takes much notice of any of that. Pel is usually too busy conniving to notice his own quirks. His plots range from starting relationships to starting bar fights; he certainly likes the feeling of control found when everything falls into place, but he would never profess true control over a situation. And although he is not one for boasting—he enjoys keeping and discovering secrets, and does not advertise his accomplishments—Pel is mighty proud of a local rebellion he ignited in Salvar. Anyone who could manage to keep tabs on the young man may begin to notice a trend: all of his schemes tend to result in a display of human emotion, and it is hard to miss Pel’s curiosity and scrutiny in those situations.
Appearance
Pel is an ordinary-looking fellow, overall. The human wears comfortable, cheap clothing that suits the weather; the garments are generally of a dark color, though. He does not have any particularly handsome features, nor does he have any grotesque ones. His hair is generally cut short, but he does not put much emphasis on dressing it up, or on shaving, for that matter. The trickster is tall and lanky, and carries himself in a hunched-over way, a walk that could be interpreted as that of both a disarming goof and stalking predator. His countenance is just as ambiguous: upon his narrow face rests a hawk-nose and a crooked smile with crooked teeth. In some circumstances, a grinning Pel could be more frightful than a vampire at your doorstep.
History
Pel has almost no recollection of his childhood. He is quite certain that he grew up with a family in Yarborough in Corone; after that, however, he doesn’t have much to say with confidence. He does not have any traumatizing event or wicked curse to call upon as an excuse—the young man simply forgot. As he is always in the present moment devising some new conspiracy, Pel began to lose memories of family and childhood. Instead, his sole focus was on developing his new skills of scheming and fighting. No value had been placed on his past, and it was lost as the present marched forward.
One of his earliest memories was his entering Radasanth, probably around the age of fifteen. It was around that time that he began to hone his skills as just a meddling young boy, alone in a large city. Pel cannot recall if he was in the city on an errand, or if perhaps he had been orphaned for some reason—either way, he stayed in Radasanth for several years and survived on his own wits and whims. He disappeared, for a time; his sporadic journeys brought him as far as northern Salvar, but just as randomly as he had left, he returned to Radasanth a few months ago.
Skills
Scheming: For simplicity, it is safe to say that all of the abilities that fall under this category could also be labeled as thieving. However, being a thief is not Pel’s goal; it is just that the skills of a thief are a useful means for his end, and that end is constructing plots. Sneaking, climbing, stealing, and lock-picking are all important tools for gathering information and artifacts, or planting them; each act is essential for Pel to successfully manipulate situations. Also important is the ability to escape capture with speed and agility.
At this level, the young man is above average in his scheming capabilities. At night he can move unheard and unseen well, but during the day he finds it difficult unless in a particular setting; of course, if there is pursuit or some sort of security, his task is made much more difficult. As for lock-picking, he can open most ordinary, run-of-the-mill locks without much trouble—it is those used for advanced protection, such as in a manor or castle, that confound him.
Short-blade fighting: With this skill, Pel can effectively wield such weapons as a dagger or short sword and utilize their lightness and maneuverability in defensive techniques. In other words, he’s able to quickly land blows while dodging and evading those of his opponents.
Right now, Pel is a competent knife-fighter. With his elusive fighting style, he is able to take on two or three level 0 guards or soldiers, and can prove a perfect distraction for several more. Heavily armored opponents are more of an obstacle, but as long as they are relatively inexperienced, he can tire them out and land some crippling blows through gaps and chinks. Combined with his scheming abilities, the dagger skills prove useful in the quiet dispatching of targets, which is not outside of Pel’s means.
Equipment
Pel carries nothing more than two steel daggers and mediocre lock-picking tools.
