Telum

Name: Telum Arx Essedarius
Age: 21 (roughly)
Race: Human
Gender: male
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown
Height: 6'
Weight: 240 pounds
Occupation: Disciple of Hromagh and Draconus
Appearance: It was often said that Telum was as wide as he was tall. While that isn't literally true, the point is that Telum is strong and has the body to prove it. Telum essentially is his own weapon. Broad shoulders, chiseled musculature, square chin, short cropped raven hair and eyes that are constantly moving and observing. His clothing is practical: tartan kilt, simple brown leather boots, a worn tunic, and a simple traveling cloak. Attatched to a belt he wears are small pouches that carry what little money he has and different odds and ends he may use on his travel. On his back he has his warhammer, Malleus Verax, strapped.
Personality: Telum is pragmatic and tends to be a utilitarianist. He is quite comfortable around new people, as he has been in a constant state of travel since his youth. He is quick to smile, and slow to anger, yet when rage does overtake him he becomes extremely single minded until his goal (normally destroying his adversary) is met. He has a severe sense of honor and will always stand up for the underdog. He is capable of making compromises because he realizes that a short term loss may eventually become a greater gain.
History: In order to understand the man that is Telum Arx Essedarius it may be best to first understand who raised him.
Telum was addopted by the warrior known as Samoht Fir'Nochen Ironarm. Samoht's life, in brief, was filled with adversity, strife, and conflict. Samoht was the son of a human woman who had been raped by a dwarf. Upon his birth, his mother called upon a demon by the name of Fir'Nochen to bless Samoht with the strength to overcome all of the obsitcals that would face him in life. Little did any of them know that Samoht's greatest obstical would be a final confrontation with the demon Fir'Nochen, the evil creature that had so much to do with who Samoht would become.
Samoht lived a life of wandering and internal fighting. He was raised by his mother to be honorable and protect the weak, yet the demon Fir'Nochen had a very real hold over him because a part of the demon had been transfered into Samoht on the day of his birth. Constantly Samoht fought with himself between doing what he knew was right, and not caring what happened a cold and prejudiced world that rejected him. Periodically Fir'Nochen would visit Samoht in dreams and test him, and goad him on towards acts of violence. Samoht knew that he could not continue like this and vowed to face this creature that seemed to have more control of himself than he did. Samoht grew in might over the years of searching, and eventually found and defeated Fir'Nochen in an epic combat that spanned days of life or death peril, gaining some of the demon's powers as a sort of prize for being the victor.
This victory, while a culmination of his life efforts, left Samoht feeling empty and unfulfilled. He decided to travel to Alerar to find the dwarf clan where his father was from, and make peace with them. It was there in Kachuck that he came across a temple to the diety Hromagh. Instantly he recognized in himself many characteristics of the Beast God, and so Samoht stayed for a time to learn what he could. The violent honor of Hromagh, as shown by the enprisonment of his sister deity, N'jal, struck a chord within Samoht. He came to realize that it was his purpose in life to use might for the advancement of right, yet he knew that the unbridled rage of Hromagh, even if intended for good, could cause more evil than it stopped. Thus he left the temple of Hromagh in despair, feeling that he had come so close to finding purpose for his life only to find more questions than answers. As fate would have it, Samoht left Alerar and headed to Corone, hoping to lose himself amongst the countless inhabitants of the island. Samoht wandered Corone for some time before he stumbled upon the fortress of Draconus. He was there for a only a handfull of days before he could felt a burden lifted from his soul with the realization that the teachings of Draconus represented a perfect balance for the ways of Hromagh.
Peace, and wrath. Retribution, and longsuffering. Constitution, and strength. Combined, the ideas of Draconus and Hromagh represented an idea for Samoht. Patient and passionate protection of the weak that revolved around ruthless yet calculated agression in the face of adversity. Samoht became a champion of the causes of Hromagh and Draconus, even learning about the other Thayne deities. A warhammer was crafted for Samoht, called Malleus Verax, and given to him as a joint gift from the temples of Draconus and Hromagh. Samoht believed himself unworthy of such a gift and never used the weapon, although he faithfully carried it with him as a reminder of the life he strove to live.
His travels took him to the continent of Salvar where he heared there was adventure to be hand, and thus wrongs that needed righting. Towards the end of the time he was intending to spend in Salvar, Samoht was in a snow filled forest and heard a faint cry from amongst the trees. As he moved to investigate he came across what was clearly the remnants of a recently fought battle between two of the northern tribes of nomads. The cry he heard was from the mouth of a young male child that had been abandoned amongst the corpses and debries left behind. Samoht took the child to nearby villages and townships, yet none of them would take the boy because he was of a nomad tribe. Samoht, knowing what it was like to be unwanted by the world, decided to raise the child as his own and named the boy Telum Arx Essedarius.
Knowing that the life he lived would not be one of ease and pleasures, to say the least, Samoht decided to gift his addopted son in the same way that he had been 'blessed' by the demon Fir'Nochen. Samoht transfered some of his demonic essence to Telum and while the gift couldn't match the strength given to him by Fir'Nochen, he was able to bless Telum with a strengthened bone structure and mild regenerative abilities.
Telum grew up in the shadow of the warrior known as Samoht, and tried his best to emulate the values taught to him. Strength, honor, patience, dicipline and, when necessary, highly focused rage. Telum spent years following Samoht, watching him fight, being taught lessons in the teachings of Draconus and Hromagh, and learning how to defend himself. Through a life of constant travels and combats, Telum was gradually cultivated to be an eximplary physical specimine. Telum loved Samoht like a father and desired to be like him in every way that he could. Yet Samoht lived a life of such rigorous adherence to his own personal interpretationof the Draconus and Hromagh teachings that Telum was unable to live up to the unbending standards set for him. Telum disagreed with the extremes in which Samoht took his own personal quest to make the world a better place. Telum felt that there should be room for fun; that life wasn't worth living if there wasn't some joy to be had. To Telum, all of the fighting was pointless if the gain from it could not be enjoyed. Telum also felt that sometimes compromise must be made so that a greater good could be acheived, while Samoht was unflinching in his insistance that all wrongs must be made right. Personal gain was also something Samoht thought little of, while Telum thought that personal gain could be advantageous in furthering ones ends.
Telum kept this difference of opinion to himself, however, because he knew that sharing his mind would only create hostility between himself and his father. Samoht, understanding more about Telum than the boy realized, knew that they did not agree on everything, yet Samoht accepted this outcome because he knew ultimately that his son must have freedom of choice to pick his role in life if he were to truly stand for anything. Samoht reared Telum as his own son for eighteen years, during which time Telum grew in his abilities as a fighter, prefering the necessary methodology and grace of unarmed combat to that of combat with weapons. Telum learned how to take care of himself in the wilderness where they often traveled, and to be generally accepting of the various cultures which he came across on a regular basis. Most importantly of all, Telum learned to respect the deities, specifically the practical ideals of Draconus and Hromagh, the two who Samoht championed. Samoht knew that there was only so much the could teach Telum before the boy had to go out on his own and live his own experiences and make his own convictions, and so Samoht decided that it was time for the two of them to part company.
One day Telum awoke to find Samoht gone, and in his place all that remained was the Malleus Verax, a silver ring, and a note that read:
"Son, you may not like how I'm doing this, but it is the only way I could part company with you. There is no more you can learn from me that you would not be better off learning from your own experience. I also need to do some things on my own that you may not understand, so I felt it best to leave you now. In your posession I'm trusting you with the Malleus Verax. I hope only that you'll be a worthy guardian of the Hammer of Truth. Also the silver ring that I left you was once given to me by my mother, and it was the only thing I had to remember her by. Now I hope it will remind you of me, and all that I have tried to teach you. Consider it a family heirloom. Perhaps we shall meet again one day."
Telum didn't want to care. He didn't want time to take it all in. He simply packed up his belongings, lifted Malleus Verax, and went off to do the one thing he knew how to do: fight for what he thought was right.
Skills:
Skin of Draconus: Whether it truly is a blessing from his diety, or whether it is just the natural result of a life full of hardships, Telum's skin has taken on leathery characteristics and thus acts as a sort of natural armor. At this stage in his life it serves mostly as a protection from smaller cuts and scrapes.
Might of Hromagh: Again only time will tell whether this truly is a divine gift or a matter of lifestyle. Telum is strong. He is able to lift a man of his own size, wearing a complete suit of plate, without much difficulty. This translates into him being able to physically inflict his will upon others in tests of unarmed combat, assuming his opponent is of roughly similar combat experience.
Ironarm Bones: A 'gift' from his addopted father, Samoht Fir'Nochen Ironarm, Telum's bones were changed to a rocklike hardness. Granted, a direct blow from a hammer or mace will still severly injure him, but it is unlikely that his bones will be broken from simple punches or kicks.
Blood of Fir'Nochen: The second part of the gift he received from Samoht, Telum received a small portion of Samoht's demonic essence and is therefore able to recover from wounds at a slightly accelerated rate. At this point in his life it simply means that Telum won't have small scrapes or bruises for too long, due to advanced blood clotting, and that he rarely is effected by the common cold.
Equipment: Telum currently travels light, carrying on him no more than what he needs to survive. He has his gold, a small dagger that doubles as a razor, a silver ring given to him by his father that he wears on a chain around his neck, and his war hammer Malleus Verax.
Malleus Verax: this holy weapon is made out of steel and is commonly known as the "Hammer of Truth" by those who recognize the large, squared double heads and the runes that are located on the face of each head. It is of such a size that Telmus requires the use of two hands to wield it effectively.
