Rayner

Name: Luthien Rayner
Race: Human
Age: 19
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 180
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Dark Brown

Appearance: Luthien is of average build; his arms and upper body seem to be the most developed where as his legs remains semi slimmer then the rest of his muscular development. His hair is a dark brown, and is usually unkempt and gives him a wild untamed look. Within his brown hair are also specs of blonde which give him a naturally highlighted look. Luthien’s eyes are of a brown or hazel color and reveal more about him then he would like to give away, such as his emotions. He can mask his emotions on his face but anyone who knows him can search his eyes to find out what he’s thinking about easily enough. They are the portal to his sole. His usual attire is a plain white muscle shirt, with a throw over jacket which he wears overtop to keep him warm and offer a little more protection from the elements. His pants are made of slightly baggy cotton material and offer little protection from pretty much anything. Above his right eye he has a small scar which was left on him from a fight when he was a child.

Personality: Luthien has a very get what you want outlook on life. If he sees something he wants then he will take the risk to try and acquire it. He lives by the ‘Take chances for one day those chances may be gone’ motto. When it comes to other people he can quickly warm up to a person which means he leaves his trust wide open, however if someone betrays him they will very rarely ever get close enough to leave a mark again. Trust is easily gained, but once it’s lost it may never be returned to the individual. Luthien is also a rather outgoing person and will not hesitate to strike up a conversation, nor is he intimidated easily by anyone. Going into fights that he will loose does not deter him, if anything; it makes him want to give his all. When it comes to fighting he very rarely will actually start a fight, for he lives to protect his closest friends, and has a very protective spirit towards women. If a man were to hit a woman that would cause Luthien to actually start a fight, other then that he fights to defend himself and wont let anyone try and walk all over him.

Weapons:
Two Steel Twelve Inch Daggers: Luthien uses to simple daggers. The blades are curved along the blade, to a point, and the inside of the blades are serrated offering a more dangerous slashing motion. The hilts are wrapped in the hide of his first hunt which is the leather of a deer. Along the blade are markings which are added for decoration sake, as well as a small emerald in middle of the hilt. (These cannot be sold)

Armor: Luthien feels he does not need armor, and simply hopes he is fast enough to avoid being hit by whatever his enemies throw at him. He feels it is better to rely on ones skills, then for a piece of man-made armor to bail you out if you mess up in battle.

Skills:
Dagger Proficiency: Luthien has only been trained in the use of daggers; therefore he knows the basics as well as some novice moves which can be used to counter an opponent. He knows the counter balance stance of using daggers, and how to make both the curved and serrated edges land blow on his opponent. Even when he’s up against a longer weapon he does not feel out of place for he does know how to block bigger weapons then his own using the twin blades.

Reflexes: Luthien has always been faster then most of the people around him. He can react to something happening before other people are aware of it which gives him a slight edge when going into a fight. His reflexes are about 1.5 times that of a normal human, giving him a slight edge but nothing that will allow him to be flawless in battle. Even the fastest people have weaknesses; he just prays no one will figure them out.

Observations: Being a very observational person allows Luthien to pick out the small details in a situation which may or may not save his life. He can read people easier then most, which allows him to judge personalities and whether or not they can be trusted. Simply walking into a room, Luthien can take in the room and many of its details in seconds and know what kind of situation he is walking into. Reading people and situations allows him to think ahead, as well as remembering these details for later memory checks allows him to possibly be one step ahead of his enemies. Why fight someone when you can simply be one step ahead of them.

Spells:
As of now, Luthien knows nothing of the world of magic, only that it can be a powerful weapon.

History:
“Luthien wake up. Did you forget it’s your first day on the hunt?” His father spoke in a commanding tone which he usually used in reference to his son. Opening his eyes, Luthien could feel the dull beams of a rising sun falling against his face. Rubbing the numbness out of his eyes, he swung his legs out from his bed now filled with a sense of excitement for finally being able to go on his first hunt. At ten years old it was time for him to start his training.

Getting dressed, Luthien quickly gathered his gear which he had prepared the night before. His equipment included a simple bow, with a quiver of arrows along with the two curved daggers, which his dad has given him when he had first turned ten. The blades were new and had never been used and therefore were very sharp to the touch, however the hilts were unwrapped and slightly slippery. His father John beckoned him to hurry as they set out from the house, leaving his mother and sister sleeping. As they exited the house, Luthien yawned gently as he looked around their village, no one was up yet, only the other hunters were starting to stir as they set out to try and get some food for the rest of the village.

Controlling his breathing, Luthien pulled back the draw sting on his bow. Notching the arrow in place, he lined up the deer. His father knelt beside him whispering confidence and hope into his young sons ear. The hunt has been abysmal as of yet, having Luthien miss his mark on almost everything he shot at. Releasing the arrow, the flight sung through the air, and struck the mighty deep in the chest, causing its legs to buckle instantly. Jumping up, Luthien felt as if he had just taken on an entire army. Patting his son on the back, John pointed to the struggling deer. “Now go and finish it with your new daggers and we will return to your mother and sister both as men.” Luthien pulled the twin daggers from their straps at his waist; the weapons were heavy for such a small child like him. He took off through the forest, closing in on the deer he had just embedded his arrow in. Looking down at the beast, he was filled with remorse for hurting the beast. Kneeling down, he looked the creature in the eyes, and could see the pain he had caused. Whispering a sorry, he quickly ran the twin blades in opposite direction over the animal’s neck closing his eyes as he did so. His father came up behind him, and patted him on the back before grabbing a hold of the deer, “Help me drag this back to the horses.”

**6 Years Later**

It had been years since Luthien’s first hunt. His skills had improved greatly with his father guidance and he was no longer the child that he had once been. Although since that first hunt he had vowed never to kill another innocent animal, and therefore was not a hunter which his father was, but instead was part of the defensive group of his village. They trained regularly and made sure that the village remained safe from wild animals and other men the same. Being one of the fastest and most observant members of the defense since he joined, Luthien was in charge of scouting the area around their village which was heavily wooded in order to make sure that no potential problems were on there way. Other then wandering merchants very few people passed through the village and most of the larger wild animals had already been dealt with in order to protect the village.

Luthien walked alone on one of the paths he used to scout the area around his village. As he stepped lightly, he continued to look around for any sign of a disturbance which he could investigate. He twirled one of his daggers in his palm without even thinking. Scouting was boring, but it was what he did best and one of the only ways he felt like he could help his village. His father was proud of him for joining the defense squad, for it was of higher rank then the hunters, in fact it was the most respected group in the village. Luthien continued to think about his father and how he wanted to prove to him what he was capable of, and how he was easily able to defend his village.

As he continued to wander aimlessly around his area, he heard a sound which quickly snapped him out of all other thoughts. His hands slipped down to the smooth hilts of his twin blades as he looked through the trees to see a small group of people struggling to get through the thick foliage. The man at the lead seemed to know what he was doing, gliding effortlessly through the trees, shrubs, and thistles, but the other three men were wearing robed and carrying countless objects, fighting to keep up. Crouching down, Luthien could here the men babbling with each other about something. Sliding along the ground, he moved closer so that he could make out the words that they spoke so casually to each other.

“I can’t believe we are paying this man two thousand gold pieces to lead us through this forest, and then deep into the mines of Golien just to see if we can find a stone that may or may not possess the power that we are searching for.”

The second man grunted as he fought off a tree which had snared his robe. “You know as well as I do we could never get through without a scout, and if we do find the stone we could be set for life.” As he heard this, Luthien’s jaw hit the ground, spinning on the spot, he quickly took off through the forest flawlessly gliding his way towards his village. Thoughts of adventure and riches were filling his mind as he thought about the possibilities outside the world he was accustomed to.

Walking into the village, he kept his head high; his father would understand he had to. Opening the door, he saw his father cleaning the meat of a kill he had obviously hunted previously that day. Sitting down in the chair across from him, Luthien tried to figure out his best approach when he finally decided to just go for it. “I’m leaving the village. There are thousands of things I wish to see, and I know I can make enough money to have out entire village set for life.” His words didn’t seem to faze his father as he continued to clean the meat, finally very slowly; John set the boning knife down on the table and looked into his sons eyes.

“I knew this was going to happen, you always were different from most of the children. Going deeper into the woods then any of them dared, staying out longer, and you always were the best scout.” Crossing his arms, he looked at his son. “I can stop you from leaving, but I must say this. When you come back don’t bring anyone with you, we like our seclusion and village the way it is. Now go before your mother finds out and ties you to your bed to make sure you don’t leave.”

Luthien could barely suppress a shout of joy. Getting to his feet, he walked around the table and shook his father’s hand, seeing in his eyes a look of satisfaction, maybe even pride. Gathering his belongings, Luthien smiled and walked out the door. “Don’t worry, you guys will be swimming in gold soon enough.”
