View Full Version : Why not treat yourself?

It was always nice to treat yourself every so often. Especially once you got paid after working. Yet somehow Zerith forgot to do such a thing and consequently, the weight of the coins he carried was getting heavier and heavier. It was tempting to have a constant reminder of the fact that you had gold to spend, but Zerith felt like there was nothing good to spend it on. That was of course, until now.

He had planned beforehand, marking today, as the day he would head to the bazaar and see if what he thought of was possible. He hurriedly entered the weapon shop, like a child rushing to the toy store. There he spent quite some time looking over the various weapons and pieces of armor. Had it really been that long since he’d been there? Almost everything he remembered seeing was gone, probably sold to previous customers to make room for the new stuff. Still, It was interesting to see the various sizes and designs of blades. Yet most of them just didn’t look like something the young halberdier would use.

Oh yeah, that’s what he came here for in the first place, his halberd. It was his trophy, a reminder of what felt like his only major accomplishment. Although he hadn’t had it for long, he was quickly growing used to wielding the weapon. So much in fact, that he preferred it to his sword. Still, it could be better in some ways.

Approaching the shopkeeper, Zerith placed his pole-arm on the counter and smiled. “I was wondering…” he began. “Just what the price would be to get the head of this halberd replaced with a stronger metal. Currently it is titanium, but I would like to know the prices for whatever metals are stronger. Once I get an idea on how much I that is I’ll consider if I still want the same design on the blade or if I want to pay extra for something different.”

Why are there so many dwarves in the Bazaar? It is a question that will never be answered, at least not today. For now, Zerith had to be happy by the fact that one was now holding the weapon above his head, twirling it around as he examined the blade before placing it back in his customer's grasp shortly after.

"Yeah, brother... Gen-u-ine titanium. One second."

He disappeared into the back of his shop but appeared several moments later looking busy with a long roll of parchment in one hand and an oily hammer in the other. He threw his working tool onto the counter, smiling as he read and read.

"Rightyo, you have two choices, mah man. Either you go for pure strength or you go for fluidity and ease of use. The former option is Mythril, we don't sell Prevaldia or Adamantine here and I doubt you'll find another place in the Bazaar that does, unless you look real hard. And for the latter, see I can use those 'em big words like an elf too! Who says we're dumber! Sure we're shorter but yeah... I'm taller! Wait, no I'm not. Well, if I shaved, I guess I would be."

The dwarf spent a few minutes ranting before he panted, out of breath.

"Oh right, speed of striking all that crap. That's cheap, only 100 gold to put it to Damascus, but that actually lowers the actual durability of the blade as it actually becomes weaker versus other metals. But then again, it depends what you want. As for Mytty, that's... 1500, brother. Expensive stuff, it is."

"1500 for Mythril! You bet your damn dwarven ass that it's bloody expensive!"

That put an end to Zerith's goal for today. He was just shy of 1000 gold, so Mythril was out of the picture. He wouldn't go for Damascus either seeing as how it would risk breaking under pressure. 1500 for Mythril? Wow. If that metal was that expensive, there was no telling what the price for Adamantine would be.

Well if he couldn't get a better blade. Maybe he could afford a better shaft.

"Alright, forget I even asked about metals. How much for a Liviol shaft?" he answered. Surely the price for that wasn't rediculous.

"Damn those dwarves and their overcharging."

The shopkeeper examined the weapon again, his eyes focusing on it, magically realizing what material it was made of. Grinning, he clicked his fingers.

"100 to upgrade to Liviol, mate. Wood just ain't worth its weight in gold."

"You're joking right? 1500 for a mythril head and only 100 for a liviol shaft?"

At first, Zerith thought this merchant was crazy for charging so much for mythril. Then when he told him the price for liviol, the halberdier was beginning to think that this dwarf really was crazy. 100 gold for a liviol shaft did sound a little rediculous, but in a good way. Zerith would have had to be as crazy as the dwarf to not take that offer.

"Done, 100 gold for a liviol shaft," the young mercenary replied as he reached into his pouch to retrieve the necessary amount of coins. When he thought he had enough he placed the final sum on the counter. "120. 100 for the shaft itself, the remaining 20 is yours if you can make the new shaft identical to this current one. Deal?"

(Sorry, I haven't seen this one.)

"Alright," the shopkeeper said, slowly.
