I'm coming to althanas because you guys are a bunch of no-life social rejects so you probably know enough about technology to help me with my problem. Okay, so my old television broke down and I decided to spring for an LCD one, right? I figure the video-games will look better. And they do, on the new generation systems. But I'm tired of those games so I connect the PS2 to play some Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks and the graphics are off. Jaggy. And the color seems weird too. I figure it's just rose-tinted glasses saying this stuff looked better. So I popped in Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater and it's just as bad. It's starting to piss me off. Is it a problem with my LCD screen? It's a Sony so it's not some knockoff piece of shit. Or have the games always looked bad?
And don't talk to me about color or contrast or shit like that. I already tried that.

It's a Sony
Well, there's your problem right there...
No. I assume that you're using component or HDMI cables to play your current-gen systems?
Try hunting down a pair of component cables for the PS2, rather than using the YWR composite cables that came with the system.
But then again, it could just be the games themselves, what with them being "old" now... I've seen LoZ: Wind Waker on a regular t.v. and an LCD... It looked like crap on the latter.

I don't know what that is. I'm using the cables that came with the PS2.
Edit: If this has happened to anybody else, I'd like to hear about it.

Component cables, instead of having the yellow/white/red plugs have a set of red/green/blue plugs for video and red/white for audio. Does the back of your t.v. have that kind of input?

Yeah, I hooked up my 360 to them. But it also has the regular red white and yellow plugs and I hooked up my PS2 to those.

You can find a pair of PS2 component cables--the ones you have your 360 hooked up with--for relatively cheap. Other than the possibility of the inputs themselves being bad, I can't think of anything that would affect only your PS2...

Thanks. I'll start looking for those. Although I actually have a couple of PS2 inputs and they all make it look the same.

This should help:
Use the component cables suggested above to connect the PS2 to your LCD (they are $19.99 at Best Buy (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8223013&st=sony+ps3+component+cable&lp=12&type=product&cp=3&id=1166840115294)). The PS2 component and PS3 component are the same. Then start your PS2 w/o a disk and go into the video setup in the browser. Make sure you're outputting 480p (which is the highest the PS2 can output). If you aren't satisfied with the picture, there are AV receivers that can scale or "upconvert" your 480p signal to 1080i. They are usually $500+ but do what you need to do.
Make sure you're outputting 480p (which is the highest the PS2 can output).
Not true. Gran Turismo 4 for PS2 could output to 1080i. Although admittedly, I think it was the only game that could... lol.
Anyways, on topic. Component cables definitely help. My friend used them for his PS2 on his tv that wasn't even LCD and it helped a lot.

No shit?
Well thanks everybody. I'll see if I can't round up a couple of those things.
