Weapons

Silver Morning - A fine yew long bow with a unicorn's mane bowstring. Personalized over the years by through countless runes by Kiete, it is enchanted to give slightly extra pierce to arrows fired from it.

Liquid and Destiny - A bastard sword and main gauche, both with rubies indented into their pommels.

Heartpiercers - 20 ordinary steel tipped yew arrows.

Armour

Pifawari - A composite between the dark elf piwafwi and the a cloak of Elvenkind. A black cloak permanently worn by the ranger, it offers little protection from attacks. However, when the hood is drawn over the Kiete's head, he becomes nearly invisible in darkness or shadows. He can still be seen as a silhouette.

Skills

Long Bow Proficiency - Kiete can hit a stationary target reliably from 100 meters and a moving one from 50 meters while standing. His range halves while moving and doubles in prone positions. He is also adept at improvisation with his bow, meaning that he can fire from awkward positions and situations with minimal reduction in accuracy.

One with Nature - A special skill granted to those who prove themselves to the Woodbraiths. Kiete can phase through any wooden solid, as long as it is composed primarily out of wood. He can stay phased in the solid, as long as it is wide enough.

Firedust - Kiete can summon flames with either of his hands. He can form and shape it into any form that he desires, as long as it is smaller than his palms. He can project these flames as well, but only up to the size of his palm.

Personality

Kiete is a kind and benevolent character with little regards for constraints like law. He is an altruistic soul who hardly ever acts in his own personal interests, continuously helping those in need. Relentlessly stubborn, it is almost impossible to dissuade him from a point of view when he has formed it coherently in his mind. He will fight for whoever he believes is right. To this extent, he is slightly naive, still believing that he can preserve and ensure justice in the world.

He has hardly any vices, or he does not choose to act upon them. Charming to the bone, if a little sarcastic, he enjoys the company of people ... for a limited amount of time, at least. He is always on the move, claiming that he is 'spreading justice to Althanas.'

Appearance

Kiete is a handsome, lean man with permanent stubble decorating his face. His skin in tanned from almost permanent exposure to the sun from his travels. His dark hair comes down past the bottom of his neck, unkempt and scattered all across his head. He never keeps it restrained, even when it blocks his view while taking aim with his bow.

He always seems to be wearing black, even though his clothes always seem to differ. They are never of high quality or dirty, only seeming to be weathered as if they had been worn a thousand times over.

History

Kiete Atayien was born in the bustling metropolis of Radasanth. He had constantly changing dreams as a child of all the different professions he could be as an adult but one thing remained constant in all of them: they involved seeing the world. An only child, his parents continuously spoiled him, espicially his father who encouraged every single one of his ambitions, always telling him that the world was meant for him.

The night before he was to take an apprenticeship as a soldier in the Radasanthian army at age 18, Kiete awoke to razing flames. It was the raging heat that had woken the boy and it took him a moment to realize that his entire house was on fire. Thinking quickly, the boy jumped out of his second floor window, reaching the ground just in time to hear his mother's last screams of terror before her bedroom's ceiling collapsed and buried her alive in flaming debris. Kiete screamed for his father and his dead mother until the sun rose, but it was too late. Not a trace of either remained.

Neighbours and family friends comforted him, but it was to no avail. Nothing remained of his life but ashes and even that had been blown away by the morning breeze. Theories became the gossip of the town, as everyone tried to hypothesize how the Atayien family had lost everything in one night. Eventually though, the Atayiens became nothing but a memory and a house was built to replace the one razed by the mysterious flame.

Kiete threw his life into the Radasanthian army, learning everything that was thrown before him. He dared not fail, for he needed to stay a soldier because then he wouldn't need to think. He wanted to die, but did not have the courage to face his parents in the afterlife after he had left them in that flaming house. He spent 10 years in the army until the second event that would shape his life.

A tour of duty brought Kiete to Raiaera during the first rise of the necromancer Xem'Zund. He fought alongside elves to repel the undead. Among them, an aged ranger who let himself be known only as Woodbraith took a certain interest in Kiete. When the war was ended and the undead defeated, Woodbraith revealed that he had seen Kiete's soul during the war, telling him that it was damaged and scarred and in need of repair. Intrigued because he had not revealed his past to anyone, Kiete followed Woodbraith into the forest one night where the ranger revealed how he could give Kiete's life meaning besides mindless fighting with the army. He convinced him to leave the army and train to become a ranger with him. When Kiete revealed his past to Woodbraith, the ranger told him that though he was not at fault, he would be able to at least make himself feel better by helping the world as a ranger.

Kiete agreed.

When his training was completed, Woodbraith revealed that his name was a title passed from master to teacher. Now that he had aged, he no longer had the strength or desire to travel the world but saw the potential in Kiete to replace him. The new ranger accepted this, knowing now that he could repent in his own way and even better, he could do this by himself.

Gradually, Kiete healed and he managed to recover at least some forms of humanity inside himself. He found being a ranger was enriching and he slowly began to remove the feelings inside himself that trapped him in the past. His true personality revealed itself, the one before the fire. Unlike most, he had little desire to dig up the dredges of the past, even going so far as to saying that he cared not how the fire had started, only that it had happened. At least his father encouraged wish that he travel the world had happened.

That was, until the third event happened. Kiete awoke one morning to a very familiar feeling. It was one that he had felt a million times, though only once for real. In his nightmares, he had felt that unique tinge of fire as it tickled and then crackled at his flesh. This time though, it was definitely real. And when Kiete's eyes opened, it was to the realization that the familiar feeling of flame was coming from his palms.

From his experiences, Kiete knew that this was innate magic manifesting itself in the user. He knew of a dozen places where he could learn to control this ability. He had no desire to control it though, he only wanted to know WHY he had it.

His past had caught up with him.
