hope you have lots of fun.

First you need to post a character profile here (http://www.althanas.com/world/forumdisplay.php?f=7) and have a Mod approve it, more than likely you'll have to edit things the mod tells you to, such as removing a bolt of pure doom or lowering your skill. New characters are just starting out and one draws of Althanas is that you earn stuff through your roleplaying.

Once approved you can start or join an in character thread. In character threads pretty much come in two flavors, three if you count solos^^. Quests are pretty much adventures with a cooperative vibe where you work together with other writers to craft a story, this can be anything from saving a village from orcs to a treasure hunt to solving a mystery to having a steamy romance. These are a great way to see how you work together and start out.

Battles are extended fight scene where pretty much 90% of the story is a fight scene between 2 or more Player characters. They are competitive in that there is a winner and loser based on writing quality. Winner gains more experience and gold than the loser unless the loser is a significantly higher level.

As for Joining if a thread says "(open)" in the title or as a note in the begining of the thread it's pretty much safe to just join in. If it says "closed" then it's reserved for certain people and if you aren't invited then you should not post in the thread. if it's not mentioned PM the threa starter and ask if it's open or not.

I hope this helps and you stay awhile. and don't get discouraged by score. it's nice to have a high score but most people really only care if you do your best.
