View Full Version : The Price of Freedom Reloaded
I'll be honest. The third installment of this story arc has failed because of my inactivity. As you may or may not know, "The Price of Freedom (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=6412)" series were dealing with the Civil War in Corone, and I'm guilty for making it go dead. In the meanwhile, Christina Bredith/Elrundir went inactive and I'm not certain whether or not Izvilvin wants to continue participating either after all this time. So what I'm going to do is set up a new recruitment for this continuing story and ask for you beautiful people of Althanas to help me bring this story to a fitting ending.
Technically, you don't need to know anything about the previous two threads. There is a summary in the prologue of the linked thread that pretty much covers the first two quests. What I need for the third are two people that would accompany Letho and his rebellious Rangers as they try to strike a major blow against the Empire. I will be restarting this quest and not continuing the existing one (unless both Christina and Izzy magically pop into this thread ;)), and you can expect it to be up some time tomorrow hopefully.
There are some prerequisites for those willing to join. Given the unique situation the Corone Rangers are in, those that wish to participate have two option as to how they join this quest. You can: a) already be with the Rangers. There are currently about a thousand rebels training in the hidden base of the Rangers and you can be one of them, joining the cause sometime before the start of the quest, b) you can be a part of a mercenary force that Major Killian Jahad will bring along with a quad of Raiaeran bladesingers that are coming to join the cause at the beginning of this quest. Of course, I'm always open to suggestions, so if any potential participants have a third plausible way of joining, make your case and I'll consider it.
It's probably a bit hypocritical of me to ask for activity and endurance as well given the fact that the quest failed for the first time because I fell into a slump, but I'm going to ask it anyways. It doesn't have to be crazy, Shyam-like activity, but you have to be ready to post around two times a week or so.
I'll keep this open for a couple of days. I thank you all in advance.

Who better for crazy, Shyam-like activity than Shyam? I'd love to get in on this if you'd have me. We can talk about what character you'd prefer if you want me in, but pretty much any one of Jame, Molotov and Djakara is at your disposal (other characters not fitting for IC reasons on my part).

I wanted to get in on this the first time around and I'd still love to get in on it now.
Witchblade, Kyo or Ira would probably suit it best, I could see there being some IC problems with my other characters for joining this one. Even Ira might be a bit of a tough sell, making Kyo or Witchblade the two easier choices.

Crap, I'm the third one. Are you that strict to having just two additional party members? Zeph is from Corone and I have a pretty good way on how to get Zeph into the story if you'll accept him.
Technically, this wasn't a first some, first served type recruitment, but you three make it so. I'm not married to the idea of having just two additional party members, Zeph, but more then 1+3 usually makes for a sluggish quest. So what I'm saying that all three of you are in.
As for the characters you'd use, Shyam and Megan, it's mostly up to you as I have no real preference. It might be fun to have Molotov around because he's a generally fun guy to have around and he has history with Letho, but if you wish to use another character, Shyam, feel free to do so. Same for you, Witchy. My first choice would be Witchblade just to add some diversity to the team. I don't know much about Kyo, though. Care to supply a link to her profile or a short summary? And also, Zeph, it will be great to finally write a quest with you.
I'll be PMing you the basic story of a quest shortly. It's not completely set in stone, mind you, so whenever you people have some ideas, we can discuss about implementing them.

Kyosku Tetsoma (http://althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=9894)
It would be really funny if Molotov and Kyo were in this together since they're both the leaders to the newly reformed Bandit Brotherhood. But then again, Molotov and Witchblade would be quite interesting as well, as long as they don't kill each other first.
Maybe Kyo would work better. She's hot. We need a hot chick in the quest. :P
But seriously, it's up to you. You said it yourself, both characters can work.
EDIT: PMs away.

Molotov and Witchblade really wouldn't work, because Molotov would pretty much say "screw Corone, I'm getting an ale" if she was involved (purely IC, nothing against Megan) and Molotov and Kyo could either be good or bad based on the BB connection.
I'd actually lean slightly towards Jame, for three reasons:
1) He has the most logical reason of all my characters to be in Corone for this. Molotov, unfortunately, has the least, since he's sworn pretty much to never return to the island. I could work something if you really wanted me to, but it might be a stretch. Djakara might be out for profit, but he'd also be somewhat useless in combat.
2) He's the most that could benefit from the IC experience. Jame needs to be in more conflicts where he can look to reliable people such as Letho for how to conduct himself in battle.
3) For my own growth in writing with him, I don't use him enough as a supporting character. This would give me that chance.
Jame it is then. You seem most comfortable with him in this story, and it's always best to use someone you're most comfortable with at the moment.

*goes off to cry in her little corner*
I always knew you hated me...
I'm really quite torn on who to use here, either character would be quite good. Witchblade is just an all out powerhouse and would easily drop in with a group of mercenaries if it meant some bloodshed and ending the war in Corone, she's getting kind of sick of it. And Kyo can easily be hired as well, but she'd be the weakest character in this group. Heck, if you need someone to sneak in she's your woman, but in all out combat Witchblade is your best bet.

Damnit...

Ohh, double post. I think I'm leaning more towards Kyosku, unless someone gives me a good reason to use Witchblade. And Letho, keep your hands off her, your character is married and you've already got Ira all to yourself. :p
Anyone else is free to go at her though! ;)
Kyosku it is then. And don't worry. Letho has a war to fight. He doesn't have the time to woo some ninja chick!
The quest is up. (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?p=105058#post105058) A bit longish, I'm afraid, but I had to get some stuff out of the way. There is no set posting order, save perhaps that Zephyriah should go last if he agrees with my proposition. Otherwise post away as you see fit. Also, sorry if it's not exactly an opening that gets you involved straight of the bat. But I thought it would be rather silly if Letho asked for everybody to introduce themselves the moment he ran into them. Things will pick up soon, I promise.
Oh, one other thing. When there are more then two people in a quest, we all know that repetition and pacing can be a huge issue. What I'm talking about is when each person makes a summary of what other three people posted and responds to every one of them (whether by means of narrative or dialogue) and by the time he/she's done, the post is two pages long and the story hasn't moved at all. Let's try to avoid that. I'm most definitely not saying that we should ignore things that others do, because there would definitely be times when you need to make a summary and respond to a lot of things. What I'm saying is basically that each and every one of us should strive to move a story a step forward if possible. But I get a feeling I'm preaching to the choir here, as neither of us is wet behind the ears. But it doesn't hurt to mention it.

If Zephyria doesn't want to do his funky little entrance and come in with the mercenaries instead, I wouldn't mind having Kyosku sneak in to take a quick little peak at what's going on. Actually... I feel like I just got some kind of idea... I'm going to PM you, Duro.

I'll be doing my funky little entrance :). Zeph is from Corone so he'll have his own reasons for entering.
You must follow my instructions to the dot, for I am a tyrant and it's either my way or highway!
:P
Seriously, though. You two feel free to do your funky things. It's always best if the writer himself comes up with his intro instead of someone else, so we'll just see what happens. While I have a good idea as to where the story is leading, I have by no means set everything about it in stone.

Okay, so I posted. It's not really that great but I've edited the thing like three times and it's about twenty times better than the first post I had. So yeah... hopefully you Gods of writing can live with what I put out.
I can't seem to focus on writing very much with this cold. I'm sorry, you'll just have to be patient with me.
Sure, no problem. Temporary delays are to be expected with that many people in a quest. You take care of yourself and get better. Hopefully before this thing goes very dead. ;)
Just so everybody knows, we'll try to keep this posting order unless there's need for changing it. That way people will always know when it's their turn to post and I won't have to PM any reminders.
What the hell happened to Shyam?! I haven't seen him around in a while. In lieu of his presence, we'll skip him and Zephyriah can post next, capturing Kyo in his post and bringing her back to the camp. Don't be afraid to bunny. Reasonably, of course.

The last time I talked to Shyam, he was rather busy with school and feeling a little ill. I do believe his absence may be an effect of whatever he has getting worse or university suddenly kicking his ass in. I am starting to get a little worried though...
And Duro, why the Hell aren't you responding to your PM's?
Because I thought I'd catch you on AIM. But then I got too tired to get on AIM. And then I went to sleep. And then I had a dream of sailing on a ship that was caught in a storm. And then I woke up. I could go on. :P
