How much creative liberty can we take with our characters? For example, could my character be from another dimension? Can I pretty much have anything for my history as long as it doesn't conflict with Althanas as it is now? I want to figure this out before I start writing my introduction.

Yes, be as creative as you want with your characters and their history, we have quite a few from other worlds, other dimensions and some from other planets.
