“Excuse me, miss Lasair?” Lillian called out nervously from the doorframe. Hearing no answer, she made a tentative step inside the Synthesis Shop, after which she was instantly submerged by the arcane ambiance set by the strange décor: od artifacts hanging from the walls and atop tables, pulsing crystals everywhere around and dusty jars on low shelves, sloshing with green and blue and pink liquids inside which stewed some withered plant or an animal’s severed limb. She’d been here once before, with friends, and had promised the Fae that they would all one day come back. The thought that she could only hold half of it was a depressing one.
Lillian tiptoed up to the counter, giving apprehensive glances every which way as though she feared some nefarious creature or poltergeist would jump out and scare her. When everything remained perfectly still and silent, she resolved herself to leave her back unprotected and took off her bag, leaving it on the table. She rummaged through its contents and pulled out a set of specific items she was recalling from a list Lasair had given her, so many months ago. Not long after, the tabletop was fraught with a diversity of objects: three spotted eggs that she’d stolen from a Sleamnaigh’s nest with the help of her friends, Aiden and Chance; two teeth that belonged to an Algora; a few Ferrion leaves, a tri-horned beetle and the metacarpal bones of a Cailpis Wyvern. To the lot, she added a gourd of water, freshly filled just minutes ago from the waterfall in Cearnaigh Criostal.
When this was done, she dug deep inside her pockets, producing a handful of glitter silver scales she’d received from a Draconian. She’s also found a few black crystals, a pair of white ones and three lone-colored crystals, one pink, one clear and another as variegated as a rainbow. She unlatched the Cillu Dirk from her rope belt, then took out a Prevalida throwing dagger from another pocket. Lillian smiled wanly: everything was there.
Something shifted on the other side of the door behind the counter, and Lillian presumed it was the Fae Synthesizer. “Good evening, miss Lasair! I doubt you remember me, but I came here a few months ago, asking for an enchantment to my weapons and a potion of permanent strength. I don’t have any mana dust, though, so I was wondering if you could perhaps help me in that department?”
Considering Aiden isn’t coming back, I thought I’d just finish this little hunt now! Continued from here (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=5759). Items mentioned above can be found in my profile (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=11310) and in these (http://www.althanas.com/world/showpost.php?p=69636&postcount=10) posts (http://www.althanas.com/world/showpost.php?p=78058&postcount=30).
Ingredients for the potion are:
1x Bone of a Cailpis Wyrven
3x Eggs from the nest of a Sleamhnaigh Wyrm
Some mana dust
1x the tooth of an Algora
Some Ferrion Leaves
1x Tri-horned Beetle
Some Purified Water
You said since it's experimental, it might react differently to her. I'm just crossing my fingers in hope it's something awesome!
The enchantment for the Cillu Dirk is whichever combo of scales and crystals that makes the strongest wind enchantment (increase flight velocity, increase penetration factor, increase sharpness, reduces weight, etc.)
For the Prevalida Throwing Daggers, anything good the remaining combos can do.
Just for your convenience, here's the whole list of things in Lillian's possession:
2 Onyx Crystals (black), 2 Moonstone Crystals (white), 1 Diamond Crystal (rare clear?), 1 Kunzite Crystal (pink), 1 Drusy Crystal (rainbow), 1 Schorl Tourmaline (black).
5 Teeth from an Algora, 3 Eggs from a Sleamnaigh Wyrm, Pocketful of Ferrion Leaves, 3 Tri-horned Beetles, 1 Cleaved Forearm from a Cailpis Wyrven, 5 Silver Dragon Scales

Lasair stumbled into the main room of her synthesis shop as she heard the voice ring out. It had sounded familiar, like one she had heard before but not for a really long time and so she hadn’t really been able to put a name to the sound or any kind of face for that matter.
Teehee, faceless voice.
As long as it wasn’t another ghost she would be fine. This little Fae had had enough ghosts to last her a life time considering her time trapped within some cursed village in Concordia. But of course there was no ghost in the dimly lit room of her shop, just a human she remembered the moment she saw her. She didn’t know her name, in fact she was rather certain she’d never gotten her name, but that was all right.
“Oh my goodness, you’ve returned!”
She was so happy and thrilled she attempted to run right over to the young human, all she succeeded in doing though was tripping on her own feet and disappearing behind the large counter. For a few seconds nothing seemed to happen until one small hand raised itself and smacked down on the hard, wooden surface, followed quickly by a head and a slightly pain filled expression from the small Fae.
“Ohh.. owwie, I really need to stop hurting myself.” Rubbing the side of her head as she brought herself to her full standing position, Lasair turned her attention to the woman as the wings upon her back shifted and shimmered and her entire expression changed into one of excitement once more. “Yes, you, I remember you! You wanted the potion of permanent strength and some enchanted swo—oh, what happened to that cute human boy and the smaller version of himself that was here with you?”
Their absence seemed rather strange to her since they had appeared to be rather good friends. But oh well, perhaps they’d had a lover’s quarrel or something and he had taken the children and left. Or maybe he was eaten by one of the Wyrven, oh, that would be bad. Perhaps she should not have brought him up them. It would only serve to upset the young before her. After all, Lasair would be extremely upset if one of her friends was eaten by a Wyrven, especially considering how painful it would probably be.
Then she noticed all the little things that the lady had brought with her and remembered her saying something about still needing Mana Dust as she’d left the back room.
“Oh, you need Mana Dust, that’s no problem!”
Coming around to the other side of the counter, the tiny Fae turned so that her back was to the young human.
“Just, you know... take it off my wings!”

Lillian turned a grin to the emerging Fae, but a gawk full of fear replaced it when the shop owner tripped and fell. Her mind went blank for an instant, but the moment she broke from her daze, the little girl was already rushing forward to help. It was a bit too late, though, as Lasair had smacked her hand right on the countertop and pulled herself from the floor like a zombie from its grave. “Are, are you alright?”
The Fae, rather than answering her question, muttered about how this was a thing of habit. After that, the she seemed to remember the teenager and appeared quite overjoyed. ‘Strange. Do people not come here often?’ That being said, Lillian was secretly glad that she’d left a lasting impression on someone she’d only met once before.
That gladness was whisked away with Lasair’s next words. She was enquiring about Aiden, Chance, and their absence thereof. The Fae would never know it, but in the box of her chest, something had burst and was drowning everything inside. Memories flashed, burning through the pages of her mind like fire, tearing the clear blue with arcs of crackling thunder.
Aiden Darkstorm lay still on the forest floor, his expression like ice in the pool of his lukewarm blood. Chance, his son, taken away in a haze of sorcery. The boy’s mother, sending Lillian to the ground with a strike across the face, making her taste the bitterness of her own blood. And that one image, that one visage of death that brought all the hatred she’d ever felt into a blazing storm that threatened to raze everything. Ishadin. Kidnapper of my friend. Murderer of my friend. Ishadin.
The next thing she saw were the tips of her boots and the blackened floorboards they stood on. Lasair was still staring at her curiously, that never-ending smile on her face like that of the man who took them away. ‘But no’, Lillian thought as she shook her head, hoping there were no tears running down her cheeks. No, there was no malice in this Fae’s smile. Only sweetness. “They… had to leave. They had to look for their family.” It was just a whisper, loud enough for the Fae to hear, yet low enough for her to sense her reluctance, for her not to pry any further.
She was presenting her wings, and only that truly brought her back to reality. She was here on overdue errands, and she needed these for the next step in her life. As much as she felt the despairing need to, she couldn’t dwell on her past. She’d done everything to right those wrongs, almost dying in the process. That was the limit of her resolve, and though some would praise it, she despised it. She should have died. “Thank you, Lasair.”
The girl lightly scrapped off the sparkling colors with the back of her index, catching the thin, diamond rain with her palm. Not quite so sure when to stop, she’d taken quite a mound for good measure. “I’m sorry if this is a little more than you need, I didn’t know how much it would take.” Quietly, though with the best of her fallacious smiles, she handed the Fae a bulging palm-full of magical dust.

“Oh! That looks like you got some extra stuff in there but that’s okay. I can find a use for it, after all this is strong stuff.” Lasair said to the young woman. “Never try lighting a Fae’s wings on fire, they might explode!”
Lasair wasn’t exactly sure if that was true or not, but she didn’t really plan on finding out. Not only would it be extremely painful if she set her wings on fire, but if it just so happened to be true then she’d go boom, boom and the outcome of that might be even worse than the initial pain from the fire!
Quickly grabbing an empty—albeit a bit dusty—jar from the counter, the Fae collected the shimmering sparkles of random colours that the girl had taken from her wings. Honestly, it had felt extremely strange for her to run her fingers across the sensitive surface and had taken quite a lot of her reserve not to just run away and or ask her to stop. But, she needed the mana dust in order to complete the synthesis, so she’d tolerated the strange sensation and allowed the woman to gather the dust.
Then gathering up the other various ingredients into her arms, which was quite an interesting feat in not losing any of them the Fae disappeared behind the curtain.
“I’ll be back in a few minutes!”
A few minutes passed in which barely any sound could be heard from the other side of the curtain. Then all of a sudden a bright and blinding flash escaped the edges of it and filled the entirely of the room, possibly blinding the poor woman that was innocently waiting for her items. A few seconds after it passed, the small Fae stumbled out holding two objects in her hands, one was the Cillu dirk that the woman had wanted enchanted and the other was a small item that fit in the calm of her hand. It looked like amber, only it was not as orange and lying within the hardened substance was a Tri-Horned beetle.
“Ahh... umm, well here is your dagger.” Lasair said to her a little sheepishly as she handed over the weapon. “The items I used on it gave the dagger a wind enchantment, reducing the drag of air around it and also allowing it to manipulate the air and send out crescent waves to attack your enemy.”
She seemed a little hesitant to hand over the hardened substance to the young woman, only because she had the feeling she was going to be greatly disappointed, but she did so anyway.
“This is the result of the strength potion you asked of me...” Her voice didn’t hold that exuberance that it usually did; instead it was rather mellow and a little sad at her failure towards the woman. “I...wasn’t able to make it into a potion, for some reason it hardened and turned into this. I am very sorry, but it will still increase your strength up to four multiples of what it currently is, but it won’t last very long and will need to be recharged after a certain amount of time.”
She extended her hand with the item in it, “I still haven’t worked on your Prevalida throwing daggers, if you’re not happy with the outcome of this synthesis, I won’t, and that way I won’t screw up anything else.”
Wind Enchantment on Cillu Dirk – Reduces the drag of the wind against the blade, allowing it to travel faster and straighter with less resistance towards its target. Also, quickly slashing the air in front of your target(s), will disrupt it and cause the air to form a crescent sharp current of extremely fast moving air that is able to slice open skin and cloth, but will dissipate upon impact with most metals, though still doing some damage to things like leather.
Tri-Horned Pendant – The potion that Liliana asked Lasair to make somehow turned into a hardened piece of material very similar to amber, though of a green colour with dark spots and a Tri-Horned beetle trapped in the middle. When activated, the pendant increases the user’s strength to 4x what it currently is and will last for anywhere from 5-10 minutes. Once the effects where off, the pendant will need roughly 10-12 hours to recharge.

Lillian was no stranger to the effects of Lasair’s synthesizing. She’d suffered the full brunt of it months ago; as such, the moment the Fae disappeared behind those wispy black curtains, the teenager had leapt to the bag on the counter, fished inside hurriedly and pulled out a pair of silver-rimmed glasses, which she threw onto the bridge of her nose just in time for the blinding flash. It was the same as the last time, like bolts of lightning had come down to play with a little devil.
The lenses flashed an opaque black, blocking the intensity of the blinding flare for the instant it lasted. It faded to a purplish gray before returning to its translucent sheen. “She must be done,” Lillian noted calmly as the Fae tiptoed from behind the veil. The Cillu Dirk was in her hands, the same as it had ever been save for the momentous ripples along its clear blade, as though quick tempests stormed within. The Fae was also holding onto a most unusual fragment of copal, and Lillian could see that one of the tri-horned beetles was trapped inside the amber resin.
After hearing the explanation, Lillian couldn’t understand why Lasair sounded as though she’d suffered a great defeat. True, she had come for a potion that would rid her of her handicap – her miserably weak physical condition and frail constitution – but this was still a magnificent boon in its own right. She could make use of it, and soon at that. “Don’t worry about anything, I think this turned out even better than I’d expected all those months ago!”
With a smile, she asked to test the Cillu Dirk. Taking from her backpack a piece of limestone she’d picked out from some ruins for this very purpose, she flung it to a spin in the air while readying her weapon, calling upon its enchantment. A flick of the wrist and it tumbled fast upon itself, buffeted by summoned winds until it cracked the stone clean, splitting it in half. Before the blade could hit one of the walls and cause damage to the Fae’s humble abode, she tugged on her finger, shortening the magical strang she’d affixed to the pommel beforehand.
“It’s perfect! Thank you again, and if the results with my dirk were this good, then I can only imagine what would happen on a metal like Prevalida. Could you, please?” she asked with a hangdog look, the blue eyes glimmering in plea, not even looking when her hand caught the returning weapon with an expert ease.

The small Fae perked up the moment that Liliana mentioned just how great her synthesized items had turned out. She’d thought she’d failed when the items had turned into the hardened piece of something they had become, with the cute little beetle stuck in the middle of it. But apparently the human was more than happy with the outcome, especially that of her dagger. The wind enchantment on it allowed it to cute right through the rock she had produced from her bag, which brought for an odd question.
Why was she carrying a rock in her rucksack?
Rucksack, rocksack, tee hee.
Lasair giggled at the joke that only she truly understood and then quickly decided to get to work on the last enchantment the woman wanted, only there were quite a few items left on the table for just one simple enchantment. She would probably not need them all, but seeing as she wasn’t being specific with it and she just wanted to see what Lasair could come up with, she gathered all of them in her arms all the same.
Once more, the Fae moved behind the heavy, purple curtain that kept strangers from seeing just how she synthesized her items. Within a few moments, there was that same bright flashed of light that would blind those unknowing of its coming attack. It slowly dissipated, leaving a gentle glow and then nothing, turning the already darkened room nearly black. But this time, Lasair did not immediately returned from the other side of the curtain, instead a minute or two passed and then another and then another. And finally, a final burst of white light spread throughout the room like quick flowing liquid that drowned the eyes instead of the lungs. Once this one slowly died away and left the natural glow of the crystals scattered throughout the shop, Lasair quickly emerged from the curtain holding the throwing daggers in her hands.
Lasair held out the throwing daggers to the girl. She had thought it had only been one dagger, but in the middle of the synthesis, it had split in half and resulted in an unexpected enchantment upon the metal.
“Well, I didn’t really realize the nature of your throwing dagger, or should I say daggers so my synthesis had an unexpected result upon the metal, but nothing bad! I hope...” It was rather interesting and she liked it, she just hoped the human would. “Well, when you throw the dagger as a whole, with the two pieces together and they embed themselves into the skin of your opponent, they will release pulses of magical energy into their very bloodstream, which is not exactly a good thing for most creatures. It will result in magic poisoning, dulling their senses, making them feel extremely ill, headaches, light headedness and possibly even fainting. Now, the really interesting part is when you split them in half!”
Putting some pressure upon the blade of the dagger, Lasair split them in half and watched as the colour along the metal changed from blue to a shimmering black and white. “The white one will release pure, white—or light—energy into the bloodstream of whomever it comes in contact with, which may not do very much to the average human. But a creature like a vampire or an undead zombie would really feel the effects of it! And the black one does the opposite, releasing pure black—or negative—energy into the person’s system, which would probably make a human sick and irritable. But against a creature like a Fae or other races that are more in tuned to magic and especially light magic, it would be quite painful and crippling.”
Enchantment on Prevalida Throwing Dagger(s) – When used as a whole, the dagger will release small bursts or concentrations of pure magical energy into the system of its victim. This would make any person feel rather ill, as if suddenly infected by a deep poison. They may purge the contents of their stomach and their senses would be affected as well, not to mention light headedness and possibly fainting. But the greatest effect would be the disrupting flow it would put on any user’s magical energy, causing their magic to backfire, work improperly or possibly not even work at all depending on how much gets into their system.
• Light – When split in half, the light version of the dagger pair does the most damage against creatures of darkness, like demons, vampires, undead...etc. It could cause internal bleeding, make their natural healing abilities become unusable for a short amount of time, weaken them as it travels through their system and disrupt their senses, not to mention causing extreme pain. The more within the body of the victim, the greater the effects.
• Dark – The dark half of this pair does well against most creatures, including regular humans making them slightly sick and irritable. But of course it does more damage to creature’s in tuned with light magic and is extremely painful as it travels through the body’s system. To someone infected with it, it feels like fire running through their veins and eating away at the inside of their body and can be quite crippling.

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell, I didn’t think that it’d be an issue!” Lillian had a queasy look on her face when the Fae came out of her curtains once more, telling her about the singular property of her dagger – that of splitting into twin weapons. It’d been a spur of the moment request when she asked for the custom dagger, and it had surprised many a foe, humanoid or not. Upon hearing of the special results, however, the queasiness turned to something almost like greed. This wasn’t quite like her, and she realized it, but how could she not be amazed and feel special for having these in her possession?
“Are you… serious?” The question was tentative, the girl considering what answer may come as analogous to pinching herself. ‘Will I feel nothing or wake up to a most welcome pain?’ When the thought became more masochistic than she’d ever expected of herself, Lillian simply chose to take the daggers. She considered pricking herself with it, but was far too afraid of any unconsidered consequence it would have on her… peculiar body. Moreover, she wasn’t about to stab with the black half-knife the very person who’d given her all these wonders – granted, she wouldn’t stab anyone without a good reason, and even then she’d be more than just a bit reluctant.
“I trust you, so I’ll take your word for it. I might not test them out anytime soon, but simply knowing what they can do will be more than a reassuring thought.” This was the truth. Lillian had many odd powers and assets in a fight, but none of them she could truly rely on: a monstrous strength only in times of great danger, spells that could bring demise upon her enemies as easily as they could upon herself… At least now, she had more options to consider before being helplessly trapped in a corner. “Thank you so much, Lasair. You may very well have just saved my life.”
After taking the dirk, the amulet and the daggers she’d been given, then rounding up all of the unused ingredients Lasair had returned to the counter, Lillian headed for the door. Halfway, she stopped, turning back to the Fae. “I’ll definitely come back; maybe to get one of those never-ending rucksacks I’ve heard so much about! It'd be very helpful, since it seems I have a tendency to pick up a variety of stones and other heavy objects for no apparent reason.”
"And I'll tell all of my friends what a great place this is," she finished, turning toward the threshhold once more. 'I only hope that I will still have friends when all of this is over.'
With that glum and brooding thought, she walked out and stepped into a sea of scintillating lights, into a beautiful afternoon day in Cearnaigh Criostal.

Lasair was more than pleased with her work with the customer was happy and indeed, Liliana seemed to be extremely pleased with how her throwing daggers had turned out. The Fae did have to admit that the enchantments placed upon it would probably help out a great deal in battle, especially if she were fighting some really nasty undead. Those vampires could be rather pesky little creatures, sneaking up on someone and tempting them with their good looks and smooth talks until BAM! They got you right in the neck and munched down on something that didn’t belong to them. Of course that’s why she had such a thing as Vampire Repellent, good stuff too and those pesky little suckers just hated it. Not to mention it really did smell rather nice.
“Oh, please do send more of your friends here!” Lasair said cheerfully. “I could always use more human customers, they ask for the most interesting of things.”
Most Fae and Draconian just wanted something simple and quite easy to make, but the humans, they gave her a challenge and she loved challenges. Coming up with new things to synthesize was a true thrill, especially when she got to combine all the ingredients together and watch the fusion of the different items, which was what resulted in that bright and powerful light which cascaded through the room and then whammy, new item!
Waving goodbye to her customer, Lasair turned and disappeared behind the curtain once more, needing to clean up the mess her synthesis had left.
Left Over Items – Liliana leaves with 1 Tri-Horned Beetles, 3 Algora Fangs and 1 Pink Crystal.
Gains the enchantments listed above, each participant gains 75 experience.
