Name: Travis Kiltias
Age: 20
Race: Human
Hair Color: Red
Eye Color: Green
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 175 lbs
Occupation: Adventurer

Personality/Appearance:
Tall, muscular, and handsome, Travis uses both his looks and his charm to quickly make friends. His quick mind and sharp tongue can sometimes get him into trouble, but he usually manages to talk his way out of it. He is loyal to a fault, oftentimes disregarding his own safety to protect a friend. Since he was expected to help his parents do the chores around the house, Travis has a good sense of discipline and always gets things done in a timely manner. He believes procrastination is the sign of a weak will and always strives to imbue others with his work ethic. Another product of his childhood, Travis rarely lets himself waste time in idleness.

History:
Born to Marcus and Saria Kiltias, Travis is the oldest of a family of three. His father is a carpenter in the town near their home and his mother is a seamstress of some renown employed mainly by wealthy families in the area. Travis was required to help both of his parents with the daily chores at a very young age. He’d help his father split logs for firewood, hunt game for their meals, and work with him in his carpentry shop. Although his two younger sisters spent most of their time with Saria, Travis was expected to help out around the house as well. For his family, there was no time for idleness.
When he had time for himself, Travis would often travel into town and spar with the other boys his age. A retired soldier often taught the boys battle tactics and weapon techniques; Travis was a quick study. He practiced nearly everyday and soon became proficient in many different combat forms. The boys were all close friends throughout their younger years. Around the age of sixteen, however, some of the boys began leaving. A few went off to work as apprentices for master craftsmen, one or two joined religious groups, and most of the rest went off to join the military. Their childhood was ending and Travis knew he would soon have to make his own decision.
On the morning of his eighteenth birthday, Marcus Kiltias presented his son with a worn leather pack. Inside were a few items: a bedroll, a knife, a wooden ocarina, some simple woodworking tools, a simple first aid kit, and a bronze leaf on a leather necklace. Marcus explained that these had been his once and now he was passing them on to his only son. Together, they walked to the carpentry shop and Marcus gave Travis his old armor. Explaining that adventuring let a man find himself, Marcus told his son that he was no longer welcome in the Kiltias home. And so Travis Kiltias became a wandering adventurer, searching for his place in the world like so many others.

My first issue is the fact that he has slightly below average skills with practically every kind of weapon. I'd just like you to remove that, almost any person can pick up a weapon and swing it, hoping they're doing it right. But below average skills means he still has some skills with it. So, please remove that.

Also, the 'etc' at the end of his proficiency listing is implying he's skilled with other weapons you're not listing. Please list them all, keep in mind that he can't be proficient with all of them. Pick one to be Above Average, one Average and one Below Average.

I think I'm just having trouble phrasing his combat abilities, would you be willing to help me?

Basically, I would like Travis to be able to spar with pretty much any weapon. I was thinking that your average person could indeed wield any weapon, but to be able to spar they would need slightly more ability. However, if this cannot be done, I will gladly remove it.

Other than that, I will edit his proficiency to only include poles. I put the list there to show the type of weapon he was proficient with (long skinny things). I will make it narrower.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Yes, I realized that you were trying to allow him some skills with basically anything he can get his hands on, but that's too much for a level zero character. Of course, his profile can be updated when you level up and he will grow stronger. But for now, he's not going to be able to do very much with the things he just finds lying around, unless they're polearms.

Fair enough... I just didn't know how that was going to work out. Thanks for explaining it a bit. I will edit now!

Edited!

I was wondering if there was anything else I could/should add with that taken out. Or does everything look good as is?
In particular, I was worried that the familiar attributes were too much...
