Marchwarden
03-18-08, 07:35 PM
Name: Sathras Crimsonleaf
Age: 240
Race: Cindar Elf
Hair Color: Brown, streaks of gold.
Eye Color: Hazel
Height: 5’5
Weight: 132
Occupation: Sentinel of the Woods; ‘Marchwarden’.
Personality: Sathras is serene, like the steady flow of a river; or the gentle fall of leaves in autumn. He is as much at peace with others as he is with himself and the world around him. He is reclusive, having chosen to abandon the gathering places of his kin for a more meaningful life amidst the trees of his home. In his dealings with others, especially those of Goblinoid heritage, Sathras can be brash and quick to judge, very often putting them on the defensive. When it comes to trusted companions, Sathras is loyal to a fault, more often than not throwing himself in harm’s way without so much as a second thought. In battle, Sathras retains his serenity, finding that the best defense is, more often than not, a mind unclouded by emotions and adrenaline. Most of all however, he is patient, and he has been known to wait in one spot for days to obtain his goals.
Appearance: Foreign would be a good way to describe Sathras, though Arabic would serve just as well. He has taken much in the way of garb from the cultures of the desert people. What his leather armor does not cover his clothes more than make up for. His head is covered by a white cloth wrap, kept in place by a thick bronze circlet faceted with a teardrop gem, an extension of the wrap covers his face so that only his eyes are visible. Over his left shoulder is an iron pauldron, lashed to his leathers by the same white cloth which serves as a weapon sash about his waist. An undershirt of golden cloth extends from beneath his brigandine to cover the length of his arms, fading to pointed ends beneath an iron vambrace on his left arm, and a simple studded leather wrist guard on his right. Fingerless leather gloves cover his hands, providing greater dexterity at the expense of superior protection. A pair of black pants covers his legs, loose enough so as not to restrict movement in either battle or casual activities, the embroidered cuffs are tucked under iron greaves, which in turn cover a pair of plain leather boots, reinforced at the sole.
History: The Red Forest is evil, it is deadly, it is cursed, the realm of the wicked Xem'zûnd, these are things that natives would tell you. If one were to ask Sathras, however, the answer you would receive would simply be “home”. For over two centuries he has walked within the embrace of those woods, though his presence there, and that of any of his family is almost entirely unknown. Also unknown is the story of how they came to live there. It is assumed that his family, fifty elves in total, are the descendants of High Elves who, in ages long past, were ensorcelled by the woods and came to live among them.
Life in the Red Forest has changed them (though there are no real physical differences), because of these differences they have come to identify themselves as separate from the High Elves of Raiaera, choosing instead to label themselves ‘Cindar’ and take on the role of Protectors of the Crimson Wood (as they call it). Sathras life has been one of solitude, and servitude to the Red Forest. His family believes that the forest has a spirit, an essence, and a will; to them it is a living entity, one which they are bound to protect.
His family does not cluster in cities or towns as the High Elves do, instead they are nomads, wandering the length of the great forest, from end to end, in groups of no more than three, as they protect their home from invaders, both within and without. Twice a year his people gather, at meetings called “tings”. The location is never the same, and there is no communication between them, giving credence to their belief of the forest spirit. There is no leader within their society, instead all have equal representation and equal worth, so long as they do not dishonor themselves, or endanger the forest.
Recent troubles within the forest have called for a third ting this year, a cause for much alarm within his family. What was discussed there and what decisions were made are entirely unknown to all but those present, but perhaps it has something to do with why many Cindar, Sathras included, are now beginning to wander beyond the boundaries of their Crimson Wood.
Skills: Life in the Red Forest is not without its dangers, and Sathras ability to survive in such a lethal environment for several lifetimes speaks well for his abilities. He is adept at moving silently, remaining motionless, and hiding himself from view. In terms of combat, the closeness of the trees does not provide many chances for melee, though he is still well practiced and able to hold his own should it come to exchanging blows, both with and without a weapon. He is a superior archer, nowhere near capable of the exploits told in legends, but his arrows strike true, with a bow he is most deadly.
