Ok, I just had an extremely interesting idea, but I will need help pulling it off. It occurred to me recently that too many stories run together because they all have the same type of elements. I want to change all that, I want to create such an original story that it will seem new and refreshing to everyone. I want to take every story concept that I can think of and replace it with a decent alternative. Here are some examples:

Story concept 1: Hero defeats villain.

Alternatives may seem limited at first, but I can think of a few. What if the hero talks the bad guy down and then they become fast friends and have ice cream together at the end of the story? What if the villain is about to kill the hero and suddenly dies of a heart attack? What if some random townsperson just comes in and kills the villain while he is focused on the hero?

Story concept 2: Evil is either really bad or misguided.

You know the drill, the bad guy is almost always either trying to do the right thing, but in the wrong way, or is trying to do something totally evil. I hope to do away with both these ideas and make a bad guy that falls under neither catagory. maybe the good guys just have a grudge against the bad person? :D

Story concept 3: good guys usually get along

I want a true team of misfits that might even fight amongst each other more than they fight the enemy.

I could go on, but you get the picture. Anyone up for this challenge?

PS: If possible, give me another idea for a story concept that appears so often it needs to be changed.

Protagonists and antagonists are obligatory, and the distinction is definitely clearer in the general genre of Althanas, but even then, maybe you shouldn't always assume that the protagonist is a 'good guy'.

Take Jacques Lantier from Zola's 'La Bete Humaine'. He was the protagonist but was also a murderer of women. The reason why he's not a 'bad guy' either is because the reader actually gets attached to him in spite of that.

I really like the third idea, the team of misfits one. That sounds like it would be fun and exciting, you'd never be at a loss for writing material. Edit: I only had to read this small Excerpt from Shenjara's profile to decide. lol;

After reading that, I thought of Camella. She is a bounty hunter and, when needed, can be a thief too. Camella has no problem killing for money. yeah... they wouldn't get along.

No, they are not. He has two eyeballs, and they are either both crimson, during the day, or both silver, during the night. His face looks human, like you or I. The color just changes with the cycle of the sun, as well as the respectful powers. Kind of confusing, I know, but once you get it, it should be smooth.

I'm a bit later than I expected, mainly because I am trying to not do something mainstream. What I came up with was something pretty much character dependant. All of us are after the same person, but for different reasons. For example, to Camella, this is just another bounty hunt. Shenjara probably had something stolen from her. Bevel may have heard of a fantastic treasure this guy is hiding, Maybe a fellow Dwiilar was murdered by the man and that is Kryos's motive.

(Remember, these are just suggestions)

Let me add on to this a bit. This next part has been done to some extent before, but I'm taking it a bit further as it will increase the tension between everyone.

Everyone thinks they are in it for the same reason they are. Camella thinks everybody else is after HER bounty. Bevel probably thinks that everyone is after HIS treasure. Shenjara's situation is a bit different, seeing as everyone being after what was stolen would be a good thing, but I've got it covered. She likely thinks that everyone wants to steal whatever was stolen from her to keep for themselves. (For all I know, that could be the truth in Bevel's case.)

Kryos may be the one exception to this rule.

Perhaps he would think that everyone was slowing him down?

Ok, so the main plot of this thread is that we are all chasing the same person, right? Sounds fun.

As for Kryos, him avenging another Dwiilar probably wouldn't be what would happen. Kryos is a neutral alignment, so he could be a bad guy at times, and he wouldn't avenge another dwiilar unless under certain conditions. That being said, I've thought of an alternative.

In my bio, I mention a group of rouge Dwiilar known as the Shadow Riders. Let's say that said person that we're after is a contact to one of the Riders. I'll have word get to Kryos, either through fellow Dwiilar or one of his other various contacts, of this information. Kryos has a LOT of reason to get the Riders. He's been after them since he was young. I'm going to be doing some cool solo's about that later, in the 5 year gap between bio and RPing, but that's beside the point. Needless to say, he'll jump at the oportunity to take them down, so he'll be concentrating at getting to the man. You guys will, to him, be a hinderence, as mentioned above, and maybe he'll even start to suspect that you all will be in league with the target. Hehe.

Oh, one last question. Where is this thread going to take place??

Tsukiko and I are going to be questing for an ancient book together. That will be what's stolen, after the fact, of course. Shen will be under the impression that everyone wants the book because it is priceless and wants to steal it for themselves. Shen will definitely be very hostile towards camella and bevel for obvious reasons. The dwiila guy, Kryos, will come across as arrogant to her and she will be peeved at him for that. So that's why she won't get along with anybody. (good planning is teh awesome)

I think a good place to start off (and get all our characters together) is that they're in a market place or something, all chasing him from different directions, and he disappears after they all run into each other. Or maybe they all happen to see the guy on a wanted poster and band together...or something like that. Or are those ideas too cliche?

Heh, Bevel should be pretty easy to work in. Basically, if there's enough gold, or something else of value offered (deeds to land, some sellable artifact or something - gold is heavy!) that's motivation enough. He's not evil or amoral, but he does love money.

He's also a bit genre savvy - he knows that quests like these, especially if the group can consider it a "party," usually net all involved a solid amount of treasure. The more diverse-looking the group, the better the payoff. So he's basically joined up as navigator/cartographer or the like.

(In other words, I can't really come up with anything better than what you all have.)

Certain characters have places they absolutely cannot quest for personal reasons. For Example: Camella will never quest in Fallien again because she would be hunted and killed on the spot if she tried to enter after her actions last time.

I figure the only way to avoid problems is other regions.

I hate going against what we planned, but I suppose I have no choice. I will have Kryos get a drink before he turns in. I'll set the scene of the Jack's Trade, the patrons, etc, and then I'll have him turn in. Just as he rises, and I'll need permission for this, but I'll see Camella enter. He pause briefly, looking over her, then proceed to his chambers where he will SLEEP. Then you guys can have fun talking to the one chick. Kryos will have already talked to everyone, so no interest for him there. Once again, Kryos is after Darvium because he is a contact to the Shadow Riders, a group Kryos is after. You guys should try to finish up the conversation with the contact somewhat quickly, so I can begin the real adventure with Kryos stalking the target through the streets.

So, Camella, do I have permission to bunny you?

Also, I will try to have the post up by the weekend, but no promises. School is school, after all. But I will get it done, feareth not.

Anyway. I've written Bevel out for at least a few scenes, and I think he's poised to reenter when the cast actually turns up at Canenderme's place for the big showdown. Not sure how I'll work him in, maybe as a sapper undermining a wall or a prisoner who got ganked off the street by Dervim's agents, but I can set up a post detailing what happened to him beforehand regardless.

Soyeah. One other thing I gotta mention - a lot of the 'not getting along'ness is feeling a bit, well, contrived so far. Just because a major theme of the RP is characters' personalities grinding gears doesn't mean everyone should necessarily start picking fights for the heck of it.

Just my 0.02 gold pieces. :P

The basic idea is that everyone dislikes and distrusts each other, but are forced to work together anyway.

Everything sounds good to me. But listen. The thread is already in progress. Make sure to read it so you have a gist of what we are doing. It is found here (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=14625). Once you do that, think of a way that your characters can be brought in and can cause dissention. Realistic dissention.

As for Kryos, he is the same. He thinks of everyone that joins is a hinderance. He is quiet and thoughtful, and comes out as arrogent, I guess, which is why most of the group would dislike him.

So, read, plot, and get back to us with info. And Camella, I'm looking forward to the post. This is great to have a moving thread again.

I've an idea of what I can attempt, a single action that would piss everyone right the fuck off... but the only concept I have for wanting that guy killed/found/captured would be wildly bizarre and pointless. I had made a post here two pages ago asking whether or not you guys would be fine if I'd joined as well, but I can easily assume it was overlooked as it was the last post on that page. I was confused prior to this, as I've only seen generalized responses, as opposed to pointing out who you guys were speaking to specifically.

Anyhow, I'd be fine waiting for any kind of OK. And yeah, I'd appreciate any sort of help I could get concerning the ideas.

Chase scene, huh? Well, I've got something in mind. I wasn't going to include one, but I got an Idea for one. Let's say that Felnea decides to show her face in the tavern again (Fully healed too), expecting that Camella and Shenjara would have already gone to the location she said Canondeme was at. suddenly she spots them in the tavern and makes a run for it. Now, assuming Kryos knows about Felnea's relation to Canondeme, this is how I see it working out: All 3 of them (Camella, Shenjara, and Kryos (Not including Zaith in this idea because of his net, but if his net gets better, he can be part of it too) give chase and after a while, Felnea stops running and decides to fight back. Here is the problem, She knows Camella's and Shenjara's moves from the last encounter and may even have found a way to counterattack them. This would make Kryos appear as a neccessary team member, since he would be the only one able to hit Felnea reliably (Unless Zaith is there, in which case he'd be one of two able to do so.) And, that could be how Kryos meets the others. could also help to force them to be a team.

It could be a good way, but remember that Kryos already knows where Cadoneme(?) is. He figured out where he was hiding the day before, so he really wouldn't bother going after Feleana in the first place, but rather, go straight to Cadoneme. Besides, if we add another part before we actually go after Cadoneme, it will just be that much longer of a thread.

But, while I leave, one of you guys see me, but then don't bother, not knowing who I am etc. Then maybe, you see Feleana, and give chase. What will happen is that she will lead you to a busy market somewhere and lose you guys, but then spy me moving out of the normal, as I'll be shadowing our target. You notice and see Cadoneme, rush over to get him, but he notices you and starts to run, and that is when we collide. We get annoyed, bicker perhaps, then set off as a team to get him.
