Kor

Name: Korrath Nol
Age: 22
Race: Human
Ht/wt: 6’0’’/160 lbs
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Brown
Occupation: Hunter
Personality: Not given to excessive discourse, Korrath (who prefers to be called Kor) embodies the strong silent type. More comfortable around animals then people, he is generally uneasy in a social setting, though he is easily adaptable and, given time, often softens to the situation. Very focused and driven, he runs the gamut from laid-back, easy going traveler to savage, single-minded, implacable warrior of the wilds.
Appearance: A hard-featured and weather beaten face rests atop well-muscled shoulder. Kor’s impressive figure shows his training, featuring sizable muscles. His long hair is as wild and untamed as he is, and he often ties it back in a ponytail to keep it form getting in his way. Kor wears brown canvas pants that extend to just below his knees. He never wears a shirt.
Equipment:
~(unnamed) [Iron Knife]: Given to him long ago, Kor would never part with this knife. It rests in a leather sheath across his chest, and when drawn, it is a fearsome thing to behold, considering it is just a knife. The two and a half hand (10 in) blade ends in a sharp, slightly curved point. The forward half is a smooth sharp edge for cutting and slicing. It is jagged and serrated on the back, having ten “teeth.” It measures three and a half hands (14 in) overall. The handle was wrapped in assorted scraps of leather and cloth to make a secure, comfortable grip, and it has no cross guard.
Skills:
~Wilderness: Kor is somewhat skilled at tracking animals and people through natural areas. He can also recognize common plants and animals, and knows which are poisonous and which are good to eat. He knows the basics of hunting common game animals and how to build simple traps. Kor can also move around a wilderness setting with ease, and is capable of relative stealth in the wilds.
~Weaving: Kor is a relatively good weaver, able to create baskets and the like out of reeds, cloth, grass, etc. using basic weaving techniques.
Combat:
~Unarmed Brawling: Kor can generally hold his own in a brawl or barfight, possessing below-average skills.
~Knife fighting: Kor is better with his knife, possessing average combat skills with it.
~Strength: Kor is somewhat stronger and tougher than the average male human of the same age, able to beat the average person in such feats as arm wrestling or outlast them in a marathon race, for example.
Spells:
Kor has a link to nature through his simple spirit magic, though he can only cast one spell right now.
~Sunflame:Kor’s only spell right now, it is a basic fire spell. Twice per day, Kor can create a small globe of fire in the palm of his hand (either hand, as long as it is otherwise empty). He has two choices with this fire: He can throw it as an attack (which deals a small amount of damage but cannot set foes on fire) or he can have it engulf his hand, adding fire damage to his unarmed with that hand. If he chooses to engulf both hands, it uses up two spells for the day. The fire on his hand would only last for a period of about 10 minutes, though he does not have to concentrate to keep the flames burning. The fire from the spell (and ONLY the fire from the spell) does not harm Kor at all; he will feel only a comfortable warmth.
History:
Korrath Nol, which means “Deathbringer” in the dialect of a certain nomadic band of dwarves who reside in Salvar, was so named after his mother died quite suddenly in childbirth. His father, Njas, was a small-time merchant in Radasanth, specializing in fine clothes and cloth. Distraught over the death of his beloved wife N*dia, Njas made a deal with one of his closest friends and best customers, a rugged dwarf from Salvar named Dyru. In return for extravagant amounts of fine clothing and jewelry for Dyru and his tribal chief, he would return to Salvar and bring the child with him, taking the baby and all it represented far away from Njas. Dyru agreed, and began his journey immediately.
Traveling slowly with a caravan, it took Dyru a year to reach Salvar and find his clan. But after spending only a few short months there, he decided that a human, especially a very young child, would find it nearly impossible to survive alongside the hardy dwarves. Leaving his clan again, he headed for a land he hoped would be more hospitable to Kor, but something he could live with, as well. He found the perfect balance when he reached Corone, more specifically Concordia.
Losing themselves in the forest, Dyru set up a cozy dwelling and began a quiet, hermetic life for the two of the them. Becoming at once Kor’s mother, father, friend, and teacher, Dyru taught him all he knew. Because dwarves mature at a much slower rate then humans, Dyru was surprised that Kor spoke his first words at the young age of four. Judging him thereafter old enough to pursue a nomadic lifestyle, they took to following herds of deer around the forest.
Years passed blissfully, and Kor grew and Dyru grew older. When Kor turned fifteen, Dyru left him alone for an entire month, as a sort of test. Surviving by foraging for edible plants and fruit, Kor lasted out the month easily enough, earning his rite of passage. Dyru, like most dwarves, had a knack for smithing, and he spent the month back in Radasanth forging new weapons and tools. Upon his return, he gave Kor his symbol of manhood: an iron knife.
Shortly afterwards, Kor used it to kill his first deer, a young buck who had a broken leg. Honing his skills nearly every day, Kor practiced fighting with his knife religiously. He was eighteen years old when he held off two wolves single-handedly while waiting for Dyru to rescue him. It slowly set in to Kor that he didn’t need Dyru to rescue him anymore, and he fought the wolves himself. Killing one and wounding the other, Kor himself escaped with no serious injuries and just a few minor scratches.
Finding that he had outgrown the forest, Kor longed for bigger challenges in the rest of the world. He was twenty when he left Concordia, and he hasn’t returned there since. Dyru accompanied Kor on a tour of the rest of Corone, staying briefly in Radasanth to see if Njas was still alive and well. Dyru kept Kor from seeing his true father, however, and took him to Scara Brae. Leaving Kor to make his own place in the world, Dyru returned to his tribe in Salvar.
Kor is now twenty-two and lives in Scara Brae, in a small two-room house Dyru rented. But the rent was due yesterday, and Kor had no money left to pay, having never gotten a job. Kor was booted out into the streets, and is now more determined than ever to fix a place for himself in the world, in both the civilized world and the wild one.
