Name: Edmund Talbott
Age: 23
Race: Human
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Blue
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 230lbs
Occupation: Bard

Personality: Calm, and laidback, Edmund is a fairly relaxed person most times. As a bard, he is rather verbose, but not to the point of excess. He has several pet peeves, foremost among them a lack of respect for the bardic profession. Aggravation of his pet peeves may lead to confontation, and possibly violence, commonly followed by "Never underestimate the bard."

Appearance: Tall and thickly muscled, with short cropped medium brown hair and piercing blue eyes, he does not look the part of a bard. Dressed in plain leather clothing, he is fairly unremarkable for a traveler. Colors of dark green, grey, or navy blue will most often be found in his clothes.

History: Taken in at the age of 9 when a passing bard heard him singing at his work, and noted within him the gift for music, he was bought from his parents for a princely sum. Traumatized by the loss of his family, and by the seeming betrayal, he became mute for some time afterwards, refusing to speak or make any sound. The bard instructed him for some time in the art of instrumental music, refusing to let the boys gift be wasted by something so mundane as an inability to talk. By the 5th year of his instruction, he was a masterful player of the guitar, and two years after that, his voice returned, having passed once again through his former home, and seeing the gravemarkers of his parents. His voice had deepened with age, and roughened. It was no longer the clear voice of a child, but it still had innate power. For the next 5 years he traveled with the master bard, performing and making a good deal of money, living simply and surviving on the road. In that time he learned to fight, with sword and buckler, with his bare hands, and with just about anything that came to hand. For the last two years, since he parted ways with the master bard, he has been on his own. His success has only slightly diminished on his own, and he still lives comfortably, despite his mobile lifestyle.

Skills:

Swordsmanship:

Deceptively swift for a man of his size, he fights with longsword and buckler, taking advantage of his strong arms and grip to use a full sized sword much in the manner others would a lighter rapier or saber. Years of playing music have given him both incredible endurance, and incredible strength in his arms, and he uses them to their fullest capacity.

Bardic Gift:

Beyond the talent of mere minstrels, the bardic gift allows him to make others live his music. In many ways it is as much a weapon as his sword or spells would be, allowing him to modify perceptions and thoughts to a degree.

Magic:

Along with the bardic gift comes bardic magic, evoked by the power of sound and the spoken word, he is a gifted practitioner. He does not cast spells so much as cause things to happen. His power is both incredibly versatile and simultaneously limiting, as without a song, he cannot create any effect at all.

Heart of the Dragon: When invoked, the Heart of the Dragon strengthens all those Edmund desires. Allies become braver, more physically able(stronger, faster) and more resistant to injury. The entire recitation lasts some seven minutes, and in that time, so long as he sings, the effect will continue. He also falls under the effect of the song, as it requires no musical focus. Enemies may be intimidated, but the likelihood is rather low for anyone with any scrap of courage to flee at the sound of his voice.

Soldiers of the Wasteland: As he sings, fire burns steadily outwards from him, hot enough to immolate arrows and similar projectiles that pass through it, it progresses slowly on nonflammable substances(like stone or dirt), but in the presence of combustibles it can flash burn a large area in a very short time. The song also lasts nearly seven minutes, but he cannot engage in any other way during the activation, as he must also play the guitar throughout. Any interruption of his singing or music will end the song, and quench any flames directly produced by his magic, though anything ignited by them will continue to burn. If he is not careful it is quite possible that he could immolate himself by accident.

Equipment:

12 string Guitar: Before he parted ways with his master, his instrument was enchanted to better survive the life of a bard. Its wood is strong as iron, yet still resonates with the same clarity as a more mundane instrument. Its magic also amplifies its sound, giving it greater volume as the bard wills, and to an extent, he may even change its tone with a thought. It is with this instrument that he is known as a master bard, for none else carry such a thing.

Steel Longsword

Steel Buckler

Brigandine jack: When on the road, his outer leather jacket is often a strong coat of brigandine, not as durable or heavy as other armors, it nevertheless protects him from harm and does not hinder his ability to fight or flee as needed.

The "Magic" is too vague, which is only a problem with me because of the power he seems to wield. Having lightning strike at a thought? Not a chance, yet. It'll have to remain limited to very slight effects. Include each spell he may cast in a list, and a description of each.

The steel sword is as strong as any other steel sword, naturally. Your description would have it be Masterwork quality, which is too good. Just make it a regular steel sword ;)

Having lightning strike at a song actually. But, understood. Now I have to think of a songlist... Any upper limit on how many he could have? I've already got about 5 bouncing around my head.

When he sings of lightning, lightning strikes at his thought.

Hm.

Given that he's a skilled fighter, give him 3 moderately powered spells, or 5 weak ones, or something like that. Use your own discretion, and I'll get back to you!

Righto then.

Two spells of slightly more than moderate power. Seems good to start, he can help people, and indulge an unhealthy fascination with fire.
