Hi,

I was kind of wondering if Althanas hosts members that have (some) musical talent, like by playing an instrument or singing. I'm also curious if the writers among you have ever written a song. The reason I'm asking is mostly curiosity.

Another reason is that a good friend of mine once composed a theme song on a midi-keyboard for my character (long ago). It was quite nice to actually have a song that represents your character. Maybe it would be nice to write a song for Althanas (or for one of the characters) using our own resources; the people here. Of course, if no one has any musical aptitude, we could always write a text and I could have someone come up with a melody and compose it ^^;

That's all I wanted to say ^^;

Good topic.

I'm a singer, mainly. But I also play piano, a little bit of guitar and a little drums (though I only have one beat I can play!). I've also composed some stuff, but I've never been at liberty to show them off. :P

Me and my friends have written and recorded a couple songs--very simple not quite parody raps, but still...

It's nice to know that you have such talent. I don't know how to sing or compose music (although I can play a few tunes on a piano). The only thing I can do -and am working on- is writing a song text. Maybe you can help me with that sometime ^^

Oh, man, I love music. I sing and play piano, acoustic guitar, bass guitar (all mostly by ear though), and a little of the drums.

I used to try and write songs when I was a kid, but I've never liked it much. I mostly just make up my own compositions on piano and play other songs. I work on covers when I can, so hopefully I'll record myself on the webcam playing and singing at some point. :)

I'm teaching myself how to make mashups and mix songs and beats together, so hopefully that'll amount to something as well.

That is just amazing, I'm really envious that you can play all those instruments. I wish I was able to play at least 1.

How I would love to hear an example of your musical creativity ^^

I've played drums for ten and a half years, and fool around a bit on guitar and bass. I also have a pretty good grasp on musical theory and songwriting, though I've really never been interesting in doing it.

I'm a professional musician. Or at least I will be. :) I'm going to be auditioning soon for several music conservatories (four-year colleges that emphasize music, theory, document handling for the professional, performance skills, theory, ect..)

My instrument's cello but I'm not going to play just classical and whathaveyou. It's a versatile thing, the cello. We'll see what comes along.

I'd like to learn drums. :D That and the didgeridoo.

Unfortunately I've barely gotten a chance to play any one of them, or sing, for that matter, all year long. :( My guitars won't fit in my dorm room, and the walls are too thin for how loud I always wanna sing. My car is my karaoke booth. :D

I play flute and sing a bit. Not a great singer, but I used to be really good on my flute.

I used to sing at a semi-proffesional level, but I haven't been training for over half a year and as a result my voice sucks now.

I can also bang out a few chords on piano or accoustic guitar, but that's about it.

Piano to a high level, violin to a low, voice a little but I'm not gifted, and you bet I rock on the synthesizer.

As for writing songs, I wrote one in twenty minutes once. The lyrics were something like this:

We have to write a song in twenty minutes
because we forgot to do it before
we can't be bothered to make an effort
so we'll just la-la-la-lor.

I've been playing drums for 10 years as well, and I played for my church for a few years until recently. I also picked up the bass guitar like, 7 years ago and played that at my former church for a while. Just decided to pick up guitar in the past couple years.

lol All of my instruments were Christmas gifts. I have a crappy drum kit that I got when I was in 5th grade. Then I got an Ibanez bass for Christmas in like 8th grade I think. But my pride and joy is my guitar I got this past Christmas: an Ibanez RG fixed bridge with EMG pickups and a grey quilted finish. Ooh I love that guitar so much.

Anyway, as far as writing, I've never fooled with any of that. I'm terrible at writing anything musical, especially lyrics. I'll dink around on the guitar and make up my own tunes, but I don't write them down.

Drum set. 'Nuff said.

* <3 the rhythm *

However, I'd wish I remebered how to play the guitar as it was the very first instrument I picked up. That was before I realized my fingers weren't as nimble as I wanted them to be. If I could choose now, however, I'll just stick to the bass.

No instrument of my own. I'm too poor for proper musical instruments.

Bass and Tuba, rocking the bass section with inimitable thunder since 1999.

I'm not as saxually active as I used to be, but with the right persuasion I could get back into it. XD My favorites were the tenor and bari, but I've played low as bass and high as soprano. All were mooched since I only own alto.

Other than the saxophone, I've played (in varying degrees of cacophony) clarinet, alto clarinet, mellophone, piano and harmonica.

There is more musical talent among us than I anticipated. My next question would be: If I provided a musical score, would you be able to perform it? (I assuming you lot can play anything of course).

Got it in bass clef, and in my range?(can't play past midde c, and that's pushing it).

I'm amazing at everything I do and musical mastery of every instrument is just one of my one thousand talents.

i play the violin (around 13 years now) and am learning (mostly by ear) piano. I can play a viola or cello by ear, but can't read the music. I also sing...I love to sing...

any music that's in the treble clef I can read and probably play, but I can't read the Viola clef or bass clef. I'm working on the bass clef, but it's slow going when I've been reading the treble for like 13 years now.

Are you talking in terms of an orchestral score (which I kinda doubt) or parts written for individual instruments/piano?

I could probably read it and play it just fine, but I don't how much good that would do seeing as I don't have a recording device.

I can read bass cleft and play trombone, or rather used to be able to, haven't touched one in almost six years. No telling how atrophied the talent is.

Yo. (myspace.com/shesatlizzys)

Those are some recordings I did when i was around 16 with my old band, which at the time consisted of 3 singers/guitar players. I played rhythm and sang. I've been writing songs as long as I've been playing guitar (about 5 years) and favor myself a lyricist more than a guitar player. The recordings were made when I was a generally self-taught punk style rhythm player. As of right now, I'm majoring in music at SFCC and am just finishing up Guitar 1 and Music Fundementals 1, which are both teaching me to read music. I figure by the time I finish college I'll be alot better off than I was when these recordings were made.

Maybe. Advanced drum scores are really complicated :(

Ditto with the Virus. If I can "feel" the beat, maybe.

Much practice required on my part, though. :(

Practice makes perfect... well, that's what they say.
Although I'm not good with instruments and am only a novice at the Piano, I can still tell if something is played properly, I have a good ear for music. You people should really further develop your talents, I mean, I would if I had musical talent.

So, when can I expect some YouTube videos? :P

THAT'S A LIE! you've showed off your piano skills the last time you were near my piano XD

I play piano and some guitar. I like playing classical music, but sometimes OST's give me a break from having to hear myself butcher Bach, and Bethoveen (I swear both turn in thier graves when I start practicing). Also I'm a VERY conservative person when it comes down to how music is taught, and learned. I hate it every time the RCM decides to cut things out, and force people to buy more books. Traditionally I buy all the books, just that every time its another $67, once I hit my Performers Studies, it's going to be over $100, seeing the prices from my teacher.
