View Full Version : The Saint

Korel Koren

Name: Korel Koren (from Koren village, where all are given the town name as their last name.)

Age: 52 (Appears early twenties, due to a side effect of the secret training of the Saints.)

Race: Human

Current Goal: To train more people to replentish the ranks of the fallen saints. And to find the origions of his teachings.

Appearance: Young, with short, dark hair. carries his blade on his left side. He wears a medical knee support brace on his right leg where is injury is. Wears a cape of a dark blue color. In his eyes shine wisdom beyond his apparent age.

Personality: Kind despite his infirmity. He has taken after his teacher in many respects. Fight only when nessesary or when one is to be tested of their strength. Never fight for hate. In fact, never hate. He is the enemy of none and friend to all.

History: Karel Koren was the student of a certain Ian Icetas, the last known Saint. Saint is the title given to those of a certain battle proess, using abilities some consider to be unnatural, with a certain type of weapon. Koren village was near to where this saint lived. On this island, the birth rate was ideal for Ian's goal. To teach more hopefuls to be saints, who were almost wiped out in the last big war, some were employed by kings, some acctually had oaths to such men. Others were interested in wealth and sold their swords to anyone who could afford their price. The saints were not a seperate race with the same ideals. They were mostly human, the targets for greed and other flaws themselves.

Ian wanted to change that. He started with two children. A strong lad named Botta, who chose an axe for his weapon, then Korel, with the sword. Ian had an elevated interest in Korel, for his chosen weapon was the same as Ian's. The training commensed in secret in the dead of night far from the village, rain or shine. He tought them how to use their weapons with the talent of the Saints. Years passed. The boys became men.

Ian was almost finished. Finished with the teachings and almost finished with his life before disaster struck. The armada of a nearby island empire attacked with hope of aquireing the island for its own. The battle, with the help of the three Saints and volunteer townspeople, lasted for weeks. The fight was futile. It was another lesson Ian has hoped never would teach itself to the boys. No matter what skill a man has, sheer numbers have a greater advantage than anyone can anticipate.

The call to retreat was made, and as they ran for a boat they had 'freed' from the enemy, two things happened. A bilista fired, and shreded the leg of Ian's most prized student, Korel, the last son of Koren. Using the last bit of knowledge and strength he had, Ian rescued both or them. He got Botta on the boat, and both helped the wound stop the bleeding. One task remained.

The island empire's victory was near. No way would they just sit down and celebrate while three of their enemies escaped. They followed, flaming arrows perpared to fire from a line of talented archers placed in front of the battallion. They aimed for the ship getting smaller in the distance and almost fired. They didn't even notice the man crouched near the shoreline. The commanders never even had a chance to blink before twenty of their best archers were dead and the saint was before them, perparing to strike.

That is all Korel saw before distance got the best of his eyes and sleep got the best of him. He awoke days later, as indicated by the letter he found in his hand from his brother-in-arms, Botta. He found several letters, each dated differently. Botta had left and returned many times, leaving food each time. According to the letters, this new place was Althanas. The last letter was two days old. Where was Botta? He had cared enough to brace Korel's leg and bring food. Korel left the ship, following a trail that headed east, as fast as his mangled leg can take him.

Combat: Korel can fight as well as he could before, but because of his leg, if he takes the brace off, after combat he has to return it and rest for a day, due to the extreme pain of putting so much stress on his leg.

Abilities:

Movement with the leg brace: With his brace on, Korel can only travel about half the speed of a normal person. He can fight, but only with those that come within arms reach. The abilities below can only be used without the brace, unless stated otherwise. He almost always takes the brace off before combat and he has to return it by the 15th post, unless not a lot of strenous activity is placed upon his leg.

Lighter than Air: Korel can jump almost twice as high and as fast as an average human of his size and weight. This takes energy though, so he can't do it in quick succession.

Faster than a blink of an eye: Korel can cover large distances of ground only when the brace is off and his sword is drawn. He can only use this once every few posts.

Possessions:
Long steel sword with a thin Katana-like blade.
Letters from Botta
Food, unperishable

I like this character.

He is understood to be an above average swordsman, since you don't go into specifics. Also, your blink of an eye skill is to be used to cover great distances as you stated, not to fight at insane speeds.

These are just clarifications, they're fine as you have them. Have fun.

Approved.
