View Full Version : Forced Listening 2: Shuffle Edition

This'll work just like the other thread I started (Justice = my alt), but instead of posting whatever you're enjoyed at the moment, open your itunes/winamp/whatever and hit 'shuffle'. Find a youtube video of the first song that pops up, and post it here, no matter how lame/embarrassing/stupid you think it is. Then, the person that posts after you will state their opinions about the song and post their own random, probably-humiliating music video!

Original Rules:
Okay, here's how it works: You post a song (this works best if you can find a video), the next person listens to it and states their opinions about it. They post a song, the next person listens to it, etc.

Only two rules are; you have to listen to it all the way through, and don't post unless you're contributing.

I'll start us off:

Wow. Not nearly as embarassing as it could've been, but... wow.

Haha, I've had a lot of my metal-listening friends urge me to listen to this song, but I always kept forgetting. Thanks, Prophet, I can officially tell them I've heard it, and it's awesome.

Never could claim that I liked Deftones, so it was kind of a good thing that I was paying attention more to cleaning my room than this song.

Wow, someone else in the world listens to Mastodon. Cool. Sleeping Giant's not my favorite song by them, but the video for it kicks some ass.

The first song that came on was a local band. If you wanna watch the video despite it's shitty sound quality, here it is:

Holy crap. Where has Muse been all my life. "Space Dementia" is amazing. The piano playing throughout the whole song is... haunting and quite skilled. Vocals are very Chris Martin-esque, but loads richer and heartier. The drums really compliment the piano.

Did I say I loved the piano playing. Good God.

2-song medley, but you don't have to listen to the second one if you aren't a fan. This is probably the best video I've ever seen of the singer for this band. Kinda surprising, cause at least two of them seem completely hammered.

Tainted - Mike Patton is boss. One of my favorite singers ever.

Zephyriah - I AM EMO LISTEN TO ME CRY. That pretty much sums up the song. Linkin Park needs to grow up. They've got some raw talent, but they choose to make crap lyrics and bland music. Sure, they can create walls of distortion with their instruments almost as well as Billy Corgan, but they have yet to write a single listenable song.

Ataraxis - Frampton is pretty cool overall. I actually like his music a lot, but don't have any of his CDs. :[

Yeah, I'm nowhere near a fan of Linkin Park. That's why I was shocked that a Linkin Park song actually fit well with an AMV. I'm so friggin' tired of watching AMV after AMV after AMV that has a Linkin Park song playing in the background. Creativity is seriously lacking. Anyway, enough about boring groups.

Eh Jurrasic 5 was one of the only groups to make Reanimation so worth listening to. Other good mentions were Korn, Aaron Lewis, and the girl for My December. Never sad to listen to a hip hop group that can keep beat.

Ahh, the eternal American apathy to the world's problems mixed in with the suburban hip-hop beats of the streets.

The song is actually pretty good. The MV also supplements the message well.

And, now, let's hear a really old song.

EDIT: Bah! Ninj4'd by a masterless servant!

This score from Chrono Cross brings the image of traveling to my mind. It touched on the emotions of floating, or drifting, through the world in search of something unknown.

UGH.

I like the little guitar riff at the beginning, that's okay. The rest is pretty sad. Amy's vocals are diluted and boring. The singer has always been a Cobain pretender, and sounds like one in every song I've ever heard by him.

Nice. METAL TIME. But I never like the live versions. Mustaine sounds hilarious.

What a thorough review you gave.

Nickelback blows, but this song is just beyond their level of suck. Hero is like a mix of vomit, puke and some kind of stomach bile mixed with daily eatin's. This song was so drastically overplayed that I've developed callouses. Nickelback callouses!

Sarcasm works for you; I didn’t realize I had to be thorough.

I couldn’t understand a word in that song. His mouth was so close to the mic, I thought he would swallow it a few times through the clip. If the intention of the song was to inspire dark depression and total loathing, then yeah I definitely felt all of that. Not knowing the lyrics, I couldn’t say though.

Lakin 1 - Nickelback is a great band that writes shitty music. They'd probably write more interesting music if they went metal instead of writing the exact same song over and over again.

Cyrus - That's one of my favorite alice in chains songs. :] Decent live performance, too. Lol at the beginning, 'That's alice in chains!'

Lakin 2 - Might as well be elevator music with a guitar. Satriani is a great player, but he's written very little that I listen to frequently.

This band isn't very big so I couldn't find any good-quality live performances. I'm amazed I even found the song at all. :/

I'm actually incredibly conflicted about this song. I thought the music itself was good, and the vocals sounded like they could really work for another song. But they just didn't seem like they could work together.

It just sounded like another bunch of random phrases, screamed into a microphone to thrashing music. I couldn't feel a goddamn emotion during that song except contempt for the English.

Still, it was alright enough. I did manage to get through it.

It said Nightwish. When you say Nightwish, you expect Tarja, like you expect Sharon when you hear Within Temptation or Amy for Evanescence. It's not a bad song or singer, but I...I dunno. Tarja...you couldn't understand her, but she was iconic.

A band is a living thing. You can cut an arm off and link up a prosthetic and yes, it won't be the same. I did say I missed Tarja, but this version of Nightwish isn't any less great. XD It's just a little more plastic. Which...you know... the new chick is fucking hot...

Anyway... Danny Boy... cracks me up. My ex hated this song, so I'd sing it to annoy him. But for some reason, children singing creep me out.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=DdMp7C8T-ts

I love Pink Floyd. In fact, nine times out of ten, when I'm hanging out with my dad, we're drinking beers and watching the Live concert in Berlin that they did. I also love Rasputina, and really, they didn't do half bad, considering they didn't lose their voice or sound at all in doing this song.

EDIT: Just noticed that the music vid for this is Evanescence. But I looked and couldn't find anything else. =( Oh well. It's the Forced Listening thread and not Forced Watching..... Thank God.

Always been a Nightwish fan. I never could understand the people who said Tarja was better, each singer has their own appeal, each singer does things the other couldn't or flat out wouldn't. Annette will be as good for the band as Tarja, and its already showing.

Damn ninja'd let me hear Manda's newest.

Definitely not like Floyd, but I think thats part of the charm. They do a good job of singing the song, and they make an effort to not try and rip off Floyd. I think it makes it a good distinguished song in the same way Disturbed Changed how you perceive Shout and Land of Confusion.

Cyrus - Bah. Slayer used to be wicked cool, but nowadays they're just ok. They still write ok music, but this song is no 'Raining Blood' or 'South of Heaven'. Great performance though.

Raim - There was a glowing microphone, which was cool, I guess. I couldn't understand a word they were saying, but I'm guessing the lyrics were something like 'hey look at my beautiful hair'. I heard a lot of overdubbing, which I disliked. I hated it, but to be fair, I haven't heard a song in Japanese that I've really liked, so your song was no better/worse than anything else I've heard. :]

Well, it just so happens that when I hit 'shuffle', the longest song in my entire library started playing. I sure as hell won't make you listen to all 25 minutes of it, but here are the first 6:

Speaking of songs that are really difficult to stay with to the end... Great song, killer solo. His modern stuff gets on my nerves - it's starting to sound exactly like Black Label Society's music - but this song was stellar, a true classic. I loved how the people in the audience were wearing business suits, too. :D

I'd heard this band before, but the song I heard was completely different - it featured a guy grunting through the verses while a woman sang the choruses. This was much better than my previous experience with Battlelore. The song was definately relaxing, but it was nothing particularly special musically and as someone not acquainted with the band or the lore it sings about, I found the lyrics nonsensical.

BaBE - Aesop Rock. I remember these guys being MTV's babies for a while, so I never really gave their music a chance, but the song you linked was fairly good. It wasn't very catchy and it didn't have much of a hook, but it flowed well and was very original.

everyone else - I don't understand operatic 'metal' like Nightwish. The feel of the music is just wrong to me. Every aspect of the music is so ridiculously dramatic that I just can't enjoy it. Andy: I've never seen Napoleon Dynamite, so I was quite pleased with the dance he did do.

I don't know about this being pretty emo... I think Trivium can get a little more emo than this. XD And shorts and a cape? .... now I'm too amused to properly enjoy this song.

That song was better than any other foreign-language song that's been posted in this thread. I liked the singer, but I wasn't a fan of the music. There are so many nu-metal bands out there with so many different types of singers - I'd much rather listen to Chevelle or Evanescence than this Russian band.

Great performance, or GREATEST performance ever?

I love that man, even more so now that I've seen Labyrinth.

Great performance, indeed - I would expect no less from David Bowie.

Here's a nice mellow one - I just recently discovered it, but everyone and their mom has probably seen/heard it already. Still a goodie.

Ah, summer 05. That song lost its virginity to me. Or something like that, I'm not sure, I may have taken too much blue acid.

In all seriousness, I've never loathed DnB, so it was rather enjoyable in its own kind of way. Good thing it lasted under 3 minutes though, or I might've gotten tired of it.

I fell on a track that probably no one could understand and that's so obscure it just can't be found on youtube. So I think I'm allowed to skip to the next.

I like that song, even though I don't listen to much Radiohead. The majority of songs that band puts out makes me a little sad, and that one isn't any different.

'Shit Sandwich'.

Seriously though, Manowar writes decent music, but something about them turns me off to their music completely. I can't explain it. :/

This is easily their best song. I still remember the first time I saw them live - I had no idea who they were, and they were singing about battlefields and jackhammers. Needless to say, I was confused. Hell, I listen to this band all the time now and I'm STILL confused.

Ha ha, C&C confuse me too. The first song of theirs I heard was Delirium Trigger and I spent about an hour afterwards trying to unlock the verses. It's one of the reasons I like their music.

This is a band best not taken seriously. Especially considering the vampiric lead singer has a lisp. XD Lichgessshhhhtthhhaaallt! Ooosexy. ROFL!!

Yeah, um... I really don't know what to think about this song.

I saw the singer dude's hair and the song lost any credibility it might have had. As for the actual music myself, it was alright, but the whole piano/strings with metal ain't my sort of thing.

Next: "Doin' The Cockroach" by Modest Mouse. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brZpVNGrjRg)

That song had a cool sort of energy to it, but it was surprisingly ho-hum for being so upbeat. I have a feeling this song is much, much better when performed live.

-Yep, I found a live video and it's much better. :]

Ah, that's the first Metallica song my mom ever had me listen to. I luvs Sanitarium. Great video, Cliff was amazing. One of my exes had a spliced video of a bunch of footage of Cliff playing live songs, trying to study the technique. Ah, the fun that can be had when bassists date each other.

I will admit, I had to press the "next" button twice. The first song that came up was Omie Wise by Greg Graffin and I couldn't find it on youtube anywhere. So anyway. Next.

Well, it was interesting. It had a nice Rythym, thought the drum was pretty good.
I wish they had another name for that woman than, fatty. Seemed mean and rude to me. Also, why did that woman remind me of Hillary?

Anyways, I'm hoping someone can tell me where I can get this song so I can own it, not own it vicariously through youtube.
