The Audaemus

Description: Audaemus is a small organization by most standards; at any given point, the group has at most ten members and an uncertain number of agents. The existence of said organization is certainly not public knowledge; thus far, the name has not been spoken on the lips of anyone in power. The members of Audaemus are all high powered criminals, some of the most wanted and dangerous men (and women) in Althanas. The exact criteria for admission into the group are unknown, but extraordinary fighting ability and ruthlessness seem to be prerequisites. Unique traits (genetic or otherwise) also seem to be a common factor among its members.

For those who would eventually come across information on the organization, members can be spotted by the rings that they wear. No ring is worn on the same finger, and possess an incredible importance to the current leader and founder, though the reason has yet to be addressed. As he has so bluntly put it, "If you lose your arm, return, we will heal it. If you lose your ring, don't stop running."

Purpose: Bluntly enough, to own all that they can see. Kingdoms, people, sources of power. Everything will have a price, even life.

Ranking: Since there only exists ten rings (not counting the Founder's), there can be no more than ten full fledged members at a time. Full membership is always reserved only to the cream of the crop, the highly skilled, the terribly powerful. Criminals of lower power are indeed encouraged to join as agents, and may eventually earn a ring in time.

Founder:

Dan Lagh'ratham

Members:

Luc Kraus
Witchblade
Kadarus Salidan

Apprentice:
Victoria "Vicious" Kane - Dan Lagh'ratham
Kially Giath - Luc Kraus
Sati Sarasvati/ Sapna Sarasvati - Kadarus Salidan

Agents:

Anita VanDeBurg
Jacob Zachary Buhrkheardt

The Rings:
The purpose and exact origin of the rings is thus unknown, though through the founders own words, they are incredibly important to what Audaemus is. Owning a ring is an incredible privilege amongst the organization, indicating that you are recognized as an equal and have become a member. Each ring holds an unbreakable glass stud of a different color, and within it is inlaid a symbol with specific meaning. These rings seem to react to each different person that wears them, and if they do not stir, it is an indication that the member is not worthy and will be killed on the spot. Finally, no ring is worn on the same finger by any member.

Note: No one may have a black ring. Each ring has a symbol inside of it, colored black - a black stud would pretty much hide the symbol. It's not going to hurt anyone to have a blue or a yellow ring.

Currently, all but one of the rings were placed in storage after Dan Lagh'ratham first disbanded the organization. It was recently discovered that former agents of the group, disgruntled from having never been considered for membership, stole the rings. Though two of the rings were recovered, the other eight were lost through a rift.

The Apprentice Rings:
Through a new system established by the founder, members are now allowed to take fledgling criminals and psychopaths under their wings. These apprentices are then given new rings - their training wheels - and their agent rings are disposed of. The ring of an apprentice is stronger than an agents, but not quite as powerful as a member's. They are derived of what seems to be an inferior material, and typically allow the apprentice to use the affect of the member they are under. For example - if a member can affect temperature with their ring, their apprentice may have limited control over fire or ice. The glass designs of an apprentice's ring will differ from the large, colored one of a members - for example, a ridge of small glass studs, etc. An apprentice wears his ring in the same position that their master wears his or her's.

Bands - The Agent Rings:
Agents have now been given rings, though these are called bands, to show membership. These rings possess a clear glass stud and have bands of either black color or a shiny dark gray. The bands aren't as powerful as a member's or an apprentice's, and have typically minor powers, such as releasing piercing lasers or a plume of fire. The rings can be worn anywhere, as it is not as important as a member's, but must be shown immediately upon request. The effects should be directly proportional to the agent's level, and it's effect should be sent to the founder for approval.

Parting Ways: How a Member Loses (And An Agent Earns) a Ring:
The most obvious way is death. If a member is immediately resurrected upon dying, they may indeed keep the ring, but if a period of more than three days pass and the former member is still a bloated, rotting corpse, the ring will be relinquished by the founder and a new member will be sought out. For an agent to acquire a ring, one of the...simpler methods is to engage a current member and pillage the ring off his or her corpse. This is not always surefire, however, as this may in fact set off the founder's incredibly short temper depending on which member is killed. Another method is your performance on the field; particular ruthlessness and cruelty and a display of exceptional skill may indeed earn an agent a ring.

Currently, all but eight of the rings have been cast into a rift leading to a world the founder is disturbingly familiar with. As the rings react to each other, initiation of a member is carried out either by the founder, and/or a currently initiated member. In this manner, the rifts can be found. Hopeful members will be escorted into the rift where it is their task to traverse the treacherous new world and recover their ring, eliminating any threats in their way. These rifts will occasionally simply dump the rings right back onto Althanas.

An apprentice may receive his or her ring in any thread they are writing with the member they are under.

Agents will receive their bands during any thread wherein clan business is being conducted.

Rings Taken (Color/Position/"Symbol"):
- White, position unknown, "Nothing"

+ Dark violet, left middle
+ Red, right middle, "Wrath"
+ Dark Grey, right ring, "Sin"

Rules:
The IC rules to join Audaemus are strictly reinforced.

1.) Only in special cases may an individual become a member if his or her ability is not quite up to par with expectations. (Beneath Lvl. 2)
2.) An individual must have an up-to-date rap sheet populated with more than just petty crimes. It's not so simple as holding up old women for their jewels, or vandalizing property. A good candidate must have a history of doing terrible things; cold blooded murder, betrayal, etc. A test may be administered to prove if a person is truly the criminal they boast to be, and is powerful enough to be considered for membership.
3.) An encounter with the current leader of the organization is expressly required in order to join. Without a ring, you are nothing but an ant in Audaemus' eyes.

OOCly, there are no real rules. Killing amongst the group is certainly not disallowed, and the same goes for stealing from other members.

Admission: To join Audaemus, OOCly one must express interest in the clan's thread. The character will be evaluated and most likely, you'll be placed into an agent position unless you are a sufficient level. If one is to be considered for full membership, they must have excellent writing ability, be at least level two, or have a shining recommendation from a current member.

ICly, to join as a member, you must do a thread with a current member to acquire your ring. If you're only joining as an agent, you may mention that you were enlisted by an NPC agent if the subject ever comes up.

Excellent Ways to Get a Ring:

Outstanding performance in a clan war (OOC and IC)
Betraying a PG one is seperately enrolled in
Killing an important NPC (i.e. member of the High Bard Council) and have it count canonically
Killing or otherwise blackmailing an important PC with scandal, and have it count canonically
Cause important events to move in Audaemus' favor and have it count canonically
Generous donations to Audaemus' treasury with gp, or donations to Audaemus' armory (i.e. a boat, weapons, armor, artifacts)

Communication and Bases: Currently, there is no set base for Audaemus operations. Members and agents constantly move around to avoid casting suspicion on themselves. Members and agents are gathered or given their orders through the web of NPC agents.

Current Goals:

Keep the fire of Corone's civil war blazing
Cause Salvar's state of affairs to worsen
Aid Xem'Zund in the expulsion of the elves from Raiaera
Find some way to infiltrate the Bazaar to tap into it's massive money flow.

I want in with Kade. I'm more than qualified power-wise and if you read my solo, his mission now is to kill 1000 men. I see this group as a means for him to accomplish that goal.

Kade would be infamous for what he did the old days to the Ice Reavers, but nowadays he'd kinda be a bit of an urban legend as a Valentine Bleeder, a murderer who preys on the weak. I need a reason to write with him and this looks like it can be that one.

Poison, Valentine added to the Rankings listings.

I'm planning a thread for the clan in Haidia that will probably be posted within the next couple of days. The title will be 'Ire Works' so keep an eye out for it - even though I'll post the link here, anyway. It will be open for any Audaemus member to join - and I'd like you to see it to the end.

Once Bloody Coronation (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?p=116305) is finished, initiation threads of Members can be carried out.

Well, Elijah himself may not be well-qualified, but I could always use an excuse to corrupt him and let his raging, murderous, childish, psychopathic split personality cut loose and take over for a while when I decide to start writing again.

An orphanage of puppies that need to be kicked? Nadia'll do it. Murder defenseless people? No problem. Rape, pillage, burn, and plunder? Sure thing.

Max Dirks

It'd help if we knew what those were, though. Robbed the bazaar, using a relic some dope named Randall helped him to find, forever tarnishing the reputation of one Irisathena. Dirks and a grunt named Kade turned the tides on Althanas' original tyrant, Ebonbane, which led to his inevitable downfall. Created the Dajas Pagoda with Yari Rafanas and Sorjax to scam unsuspecting warriors out of 100 GP. This, unfortunately, was terminated when the Queen had enough. Incited a similar scam at the Theater of War shortly thereafter. Warred the Gray Braves under the Malice banner for no reason other than to deprive them of their HQ and won.

yeah pretty much it would be just like putting a cumshot on the sofa about a foot up i would be super pissed

Anyway.

Elijah, calm down, buddy. Pretty much anyone is welcome unless I got a low opinion of them or something.

I'm instating a new system as of this moment. Any new applicants hoping to be signed on as agents must provide at least two RP samples of their characters performing a crime. They must be up to date, and can be anything from killing another person in the Citadel, committing arson...really, use your own discretion as to what you would think we at Audaemus would appreciate. Applicants hoping to be taken in at member level must provide three RP samples of their character's criminal work.

Think of Audaemus as a company - the Members are the Vice President's club, and the agents are getting in on the affair at the ground level. Even getting in to a budding company on ground level is a good thing.

I'm considering adding a fourth rank to the clan, the next step above agents. This new rank may receive some sort of bonus that an agent won't get - typically you'd be placed in this rank if the member list is fully populated, or I believe you've just missed the mark for what I consider to be the best qualities of full membership.

I'd like current members, agents, and applicants to please vote either a "yes" or a "no" on whether a fourth rank should be added.

Additionally, I've been thinking of adding a new system so that agents will be placed under the command of certain members - something like what Kially is with Luc. I'm...so-so about the idea at the time.

Elijah_Morendale
04-30-08, 10:41 PM
My attitude was merely in jest. Apologies are offered.

What would be considered "up to date"?

Slayer of the Rot

Just so long as you can provide a link to the quests right here off the site - post crash is what I guess I'm saying.

Nothing off of google cache, the way back machine. I'd like to see it with my own eyes, especially if a person is trying for member. Member criteria isn't just character power and a winning personality after all.

The history details Jacob's very first murder and it's grim details.

While Jacob doesn't actually kill anyone in this thread, his very last post is a foreshadowing of such a deed which would take place after the story.

Badly Ice Cream (12:14:28 AM): What if apprentices (a better name) were the cut above the agents?
Badly Ice Cream (12:14:36 AM): They'd get a ring that WAS derived from the original
Badly Ice Cream (12:14:43 AM): and they'd ave to be handpicked by the members
Alcoholic Slayer (12:14:45 AM): hm. not bad.
Badly Ice Cream (12:14:48 AM): and each member could have maybe 2 apprentices

Kade/Raelyse proposed this system and I thought it was an excellent idea, considering two members are already implemented in the system, Kially and Vicious. As of this post, I am going to implement this system. Any agent who applies as of this post, and is accepted, may request to be taken in by a member for apprentice ship.

Another idea presented by Kade was that the apprentices would also receive rings themselves, as said above in the conversations. These rings will be directly derived from the effects of the member's ring. For example, if an agent would apprentice under Dan Lagh'ratham, they would receive a ring that would be capable of effecting an item's size by touch - or something like that. These rings are plain compared to a member's ring - it's not as strong, and sports no symbol, though has a marking of color similar to the member's. These rings also have colored glass studs, though the material between a member's ring and a master's ring varies in strength. These rings are worn in the same position as the apprentice's master (i.e. Kially would wear his on the left ring finger). Additionally, these rings may or may not have a power limit, as to how many times they may be used.

Credit should go to both Kade and Ataraxis for the above.

Badly Ice Cream (12:38:57 AM): maybe even the agens shuld get rings. but general effect ones with very minor effects. then apprentices get effects that can be more specialized

Again, another good suggestion. Agents may now possess rings as well - but their powers are minor compared to a members. An agent's ring has a clear glass stud, and may have a band color that is not being currently used by a member. The effect of these rings are general and fairly minor - they may range from firing piercing lasers, or blowing fire. Agent ring effects are to be PMed to me for approval.

Again, credit should be given to Kade and Ataraxis.

EDIT: The Writing Writer has been added to the Ranking list. He may PM the effect of his Agent ring to me whenever.

Well, uh, nothing, really. You were added to the Ranking listings, like Kade, before I began to ask for RP samples, so you're fine. However, as an agent, you now recieve a band - a variation of the rings members get. Whenever you'd like to send me it's effect - keeping in mind that they do one specific thing, proportional to your level. Whenever you want, you may send me it's effect through PM for approval. Same goes for you, Writer.

Yeah I'm a little unclear myself. Which rules went into effect?

The rule that went into effect were the RP samples. A new system was introduced for Apprenticing - you can now be positioned under a member and receive a more powerful ring than an agent, though the ring you get will have it's effect derived from the member's own. Agents also get a ring, but it's effect is minor - it will allow you to do anything, but only one thing. Such as produce a poison per day, create a brilliant flash, maybe deliver a debilitating shock. You should PM the effect of your agent ring, or band, to me for approval, and we'll get it to you ASAP.

All right Vicious, I'll add you to the quest roster here. You'll be able to get your apprentice ring this way, too. Cyrus will be posting the beginning of Ire Works, and I'll be posting Kade's initiation tonight.

Hello there. I have discussed this a bit with Slayer of the Rot, but I figured it would be time to go ahead and post. My character is pending acceptance, but seeing the comments I got, it should be accepted shortly. I figured I would go ahead and get some of this stuff cleared up.

My character is an assassin, known in the smaller corners of the darkest areas. Check my history for more on that whole thing, if you wish. In short, somewhere in his history, he is approached by a member of the Audaemus.

I would like to be connected to the group, in some way, whatever way acceptable. Hopefully someone sees the potential of Stitch, and brings him up. They could start as being simple business partners, such as the person in question paying Stitch to come along with him as backup for some quest or something, and then the person introduce Stitch to the Audaemus, or perhaps a more upfront approach. Whatever the case, we can work out the details.

Make sense so far?

I was hoping one of you guys have an interest in an apprentice, or perhaps just using Stitch for your own needs? Just something to get me connected wit the PG so I have a means to get into it later, or perhaps something we could both do to get the attention of the group. Preferably someone who is strong in hand to hand, or knows something about telepathy.

What do you guys think? If any one is interested, PM me or post here? Or perhaps we can think of another way.

Also, any other way for me to get involved here, I am open to. Just shoot me ideas. Any threads open that could use some joining?

No, seriously, when you guys find a place to throw me, thread-wise, then let me know. I would love to get in on some RP, but it looks like most of the threads you guys are running now are a bit full.

Just a heads up, me and Atty have an awesome THREAD for Mary Kate and Ashley's initiation and it will blow your minds, rock your socks and various other cliches.

Stitch, after I'm done with those 2, if you're up for it, I can fetch you an apprentice ring. Buzz me on AIM or PM this account or Raelyse with any ideas. Jsut finish the thread or I'll rape you.

Well Rae, I'm up for the initiation whenever. Just that I most likely won't post until friday.

And I've been noticing this for a while, in the title of this thread and Dan's update, but shouldn't it be Audeamus? Or was this on purpose and people were just waiting for the poor bastard who'd point it out?

I was corrected by Witchblade that the correct spelling was Audaemus and I was looking like an asshole for a while spelling it wrong.

Anyway. I'm out at a friend's house for...I don't know, three, four days. I may be able to fit in posts, but I may be busy.

Your friend can go to hell. Get your posts up, bitch.

Yes, well four years of latin have told me that Audeamus is a verb that means 'Let us dare', while Audemus is 'We dare'. Audaemus is, well, the proud owner of a whopping four results on google, two of which are on Althanas.

Aha! I knew I was fucking right! I'm always right!

So the correct spelling is Audaemus? Might wanna change the side bar then.

I'd kinda like to post last...

You shut up. Post when you can. Insisting on posting last will just slow us down! AUDEAMUS DOES NOT SLOW DOWN.

Come on folks. I'm anxious to get through all this preliminary crap so we can really get started. Dan has some cool things planned, the kind of stuff we all joined for.

Nice! Bitching worked, for once!

Now let's get DAN in here to set an example.

EDIT: I'm going to post again to hand out water, and stuff. Because why not? Actually, I'll even bring us within eyeshot of the glassmaker's hut. Then Slayer can post?

Okay, posted. I find group threads lack a bit of comeradery, and actually, so do PG's, so we should try to throw some into every thread.

And since we're six people, no need for everyone to post in every round. If you have nothing to say, you don't need to post. If you just want to make a short post with some dialogue, feel free to do that. Not every post needs to be your Magnum Opus, yo.

Basically, Dan is the one who needs to post to move the story forward. Some of you need to post ASAP, though! Just to give your story up to this point, even if it is brief.

All right, home. Glad to see the enthusiasm. While I wait to see if I get a call back on an interview I had at a video store this afternoon, I'll get posts down as fast as I can on my busted ass internet.

RESPOND. Let's see some communication. Where do you guys stand? How can this quest involve you more?

Feedback or post, say I!

It's kinda hard to work other...beings into a relationship with Jacob, as he'll pretty much kill anyone he's able without reason, certainly with rhyme. But I think the whole " give me moar power " bit will play out pretty easily.

Wait a second, am I supposed to be in this thread you guys are talking about? <_<;

I thought I was too late.

Or are you babbling at other people to post?

If any apprentices or members want to do another thread, I'd be totally up for it. Just pitch an idea or something.

I don't know why I bother with PGs.

Anyway, let's make a thread where we do something, Kade.

We already have one. Why don't we just change it so that Dan is omitted since he's busy? You cool with that, Cy?

Yes.

Ugh. Okay. As soon as I got home another set of my friends had me leave again. I've been blitzed every day since last Thursday, and on top of that, they only just got their internet a few days ago. Tonight, I'll be posting in Ire Works, so be ready, people.

On top of that, I think I'm going to start a little missions board. This will be for Audeamus members, agents, and apprentices to start up a quest for the clan's sake without having to try and think of something. The current two will be:

A small cluster of agents have managed to begin a nautical branch of the clan in southern Salvar. While it's small - we'll only be dealing with imported goods, yadda yadda - there are already problems, in the form of a man named Leadbeard. Leadbeard is a troublesome pirate who has come out of nowhere and made quite a name for himself. He has been primarily attacking the Audeamus controlled shipments and making quite a thorn in Dan's side. The founder is too busy at the moment to deal with him, so go to Salvar and try to strike up a trade agreement with Leadbeard. Barring that, kill him.

Some agents have set themselves up in Akashima, forming something like a small Yakuza. Since there isn't any real muscle positioned there, the group has been somewhat unsuccessful - with crime and survival. For some odd reason, a cult founded fifty years back in Akashima has been spotted taking away Audeamus agents in the night. You are to go to the south slopes of the Comb mountains, and investigate the cult, and destroy it if possible.

Just post claiming them, exactly like any other mission boards. It will be your job to work up a roster and title, but if you'd like, you may contact me to flesh out a story for either one. Anyone may take these - whether they be full member, apprentice, or agent. If an agent takes one, special rewards may be in store.
