Charles

Name: Charles Talbott
Age: 18
Race: Human
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Blue
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 265lbs
Occupation: Mage Hunter

Personality: Charles is a rash, but competent adventurer. He will often allow his hatreds to over ride his good sense, but not to the point of fatality. When not in a combat situation Charles is an amiable, if somewhat suspicious companion.

Appearance: At his relatively short height, and high weight, he is corded with a massive amount of muscle. When adventuring, he wears plate armor of middling quality, studded with spikes. When in a more relaxed setting he wears simple leather and denim or other cloth garments. Color rarely matters to him, so natural bowns and greens often make up his rather limited wardrobe.

History: Born five years after his brother Edmund, Charles is the middle of their family, and the only other survivor. When their parents and brothers died, the plague that killed them was magically generated, Charles survived because of his latent powers acting to preserve his life. Over the next several months his powers began manifesting more often, and with greater strength. When he burned down a barn full of grain by accident with one of his uncontrolled talents he was banished, until he could demonstrate to the town elders that he was no danger to the community. With their greatly reduced population, they could survive the loss of grain, but it would also be nearly impossible to replace it rapidly. Charles has traveled throughout Althanas, honing his abilities. His movements have taken him mostly through Alerar, Raiaera, and Salvar, though he has just barely escaped the latter two ahead of invasion and civil war respectively.

Skills:

Null Magic: Charles is a psionicist, with several wild talents, foremost among them the ability to nullify magic. Currently his ability is fairly weak. He may nullify a single spell per mage per day, of no more than two levels greater than his own with a guarantee of success, but it is taxing if he faces multiple mages, and tries to stop many spells in quick succession. When affecting higher levels, the attempt is very erratic, and fails or succeeds at the decision of the caster, rather than automatically. Success in that case is as draining as countering several weaker spells.

Backlash: Similar to null magic, this power allows a spell to complete, almost, but turns the power of the magic back on its caster, with varying results. More powerful spells may backlash and affect nearby targets, as well as the caster themself. If a spell is caused to backlash and lacks any elemental component, it acquires Charles preferred element of fire as a result of his interference. It suffers even stricter limitations than Null Magic, and may only be used twice per day.

Telekinesis: Charles may lift objects with his mind, but this power is still weak, and he cannot currently lift anything heavier than a dagger or very small sword, and throw it with medium force over a distance of 20 yards.

Mindlink: Edmund does not even remember his brother Charles, but they are linked at a mental level that neither is aware of. Charles would be linked to the rest of his family as well, but they are all deceased. Both brothers simply believe that the voice in their head is a mental disability, and do not realize the origin of the mysterious thoughts in their head. The connection is still tenuous, and thoughts often taper off before their completion makes it through the link.

Hammertime: Charles is a pathetic swordsman, having no concept of finesse, he has consequently gravitated towards hammers and other blunt objects. He is not remarkably skilled with any of them, but the hammer is his favorite.

Equipment:

Hammer: A large two handed warhammer, its solid steel construction makes it incredibly heavy, and very few are able to lift it. Charles prefers to use this weapon over any other in his material arsenal. He swings it remarkably swiftly, despite its size and weight.

Mace: A solid steel flanged mace, this is his second weapon, and choice of last resort oftentimes. It is a one handed weapon for Charles, though smaller men might be forced to wield it two handed.

Daggers: Charles carries several daggers about his person for use with his telekinesis ability. When in armor he often has no less than 5. Out of armor he commonly carries only two.

Plate Mail: Heavy plate mail of iron, this is his preferred armor when in combat. He is not an agile man, and the heavier defenses are necessary for him to survive.

Pack: This cavernous bag holds all of his necessary travelling supplies. It is a sturdy frame pack, holding tent, sleeping roll, and food, among other things.

Familiars: Traveler: Traveler is Charles' horse. Charles is at best a mediocre rider, but Traveler has greatly aided him throughout his journey. Charles cannot fight very well on horseback, and does not like to, having no ability to wield his hammer while mounted.

Null Magic shouldn't work on powerful spells. I figure they'd just be too advanced for his ability to manage. Otherwise, it be cool. Backlash should have the same limitation. Maybe on mages or spells two levels above him or more, these abilities fail very often and/or have a limited affect.

Telekinesis should not make his aim perfect or anything. He should still have only a limited skill with the daggers because his focus isn't great yet.

The plate mail should be made of iron.

Otherwise, you have a hammer! Awesome.
