Completely off topic of EVERYTHING, not related to Althanas at all.

I'm wondering if some people could help me out... I recently found a collection of cards that I've had since 1998 or so... and can't find how much they're worth. Other than one site, I was wondering if anyone else could help me find out ANY information about them other than the site I found. Here's what I have:

12 gold leaf basketball cards; Michael Jordan from his rookie year in 1985 till his first retirement in 1997; signed by him; Made by Upper Deck; with a holographic affect on each.

So... the dilemma is this. The only mention of it I found in the 4-5 hours of searching is on wiki.answers.com. This is the = Link (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_would_a_holographic_Michael_Jordan_Upper_ Deck_Gold_set_of_12_basketball_card_from_1985-1997_be_worth)=

Yeah, that says 179K dollars... and I want to know for sure that's right before I go ahead and freak out.

Thanks for your help.

Yeah. I think it may be freak out time. Got any plans for that amount of money? I think you should donate all of it to charity, to show what a wonderful person you are inside.

The charity of buy me a damned beer.

yeah, if we help you do we get a cut?

anyway, I had cards to get appraised and I took them to a pawn shop to get a low-end estimate for them.

then i sold them on ebay with a reserve of a little over that.

Okay, I shall be the wet blanket. Although, so far, what you have looks very good. First, what condition are the cards in? Check this list I found, and look at your cards, and then figure out what they are like.

Mint (MT) -- A card with four sharp corners, 50/50 centering, no imperfections or signs of wear. Even cards straight out of the pack do not always grade mint. Pre-1970 MT cards typically sell at 150 percent or more of the NM price.

Near Mint (NM) -- A near-perfect card with perhaps one minor imperfection, such as one blunt corner. Centering is no worse than 60/40 and the card must have its original gloss. NM cards are the standard by which other grades are usually gauged. Example: MT cards bring 150 percent of book.

Excellent-Mint (EX-MT) -- A card with only two or three minor imperfections. Must have original gloss and centering no worse than 70/30. EX-MT cards typically sell for 75 to 90 percent of the NM price.

Excellent (EX) -- A card with a few minor imperfections. Some original gloss is lost and the edges show moderate wear. All four corners typically show some wear. Centering is no worse than 75/25. EX cards usually sell for 50 percent to 75 percent of the NM price.

Very Good (VG) -- A card that shows obvious handling but is still attractive despite wear and imperfections. A VG card may have a crease, but one that's not severe enough to make the card unattractive. Most of the original gloss is lost. VG cards usually sell for 25 percent to 35 percent of the NM price.

Good (G), Fair (F), Poor (P) -- A very worn card with many major imperfections. Collectors use cards of these grades as fillers until better ones can be found. With very little market for such cards, they are valued at 5 percent to 10 percent of the NM price.

Okay, then do the math. You are likely not going to get full price anyway, but that is the first thing that will bring them down. You following me so far?

Second.

Are they as is, or did they come with something else that they no longer have? If so, that will take the value down again.

Before anything else, I would get together with one of the more trusted sports card dealers on the internet. Find one, do your research, then email him with your situation to make sure everything is on the up and up. Go through steps to make sure the cards are real, and not fake. That they are indeed in good condition.

Then, you have to find someone who actually collects the things.

Follow me so far?

That is the first steps you should take. Be very cautious, make sure the cards are in good condition, buy something called "Toploaders" and put the cards in them... Keep them in good condition... And find someone to discuss it with. I am looking around on the net for more information, to make sure that price is legit. :)

You lucky bastard.

BTW you should totally give me some money rather than everybody else cause we're homies... right?

Anyway I have nothing practical to add to this thread as I know nothing about cards. But I felt the need to say that you are a lucky bastard.

Yeah, I found the number for the card collection section on Ebay, but haven't gotten to call the guy yet. I need to find a place to buy the 'sleeves' to cover them, but they're bigger than normal cards and due to the strange size I'm not sure if I can find some.

I have all the cards as they came, nothing lost.

And they are in mint condition... If that helps, lol

Oh, and if I do get the money... Just come to Gainesville and we'll have a week of drinking and partying on me!

Yeah, mint condition helps alot. If they were anything less, I doubt you would get that much for them.

I am no card expert. But I can recommend you to check out Yahoo answers if you are looking for a wider range of answers... yeah

Gainseville...Virginia? *plots mugging and pain if that turns out to be accurate.* If you do live here in NOVA Hell, PWC library has a card value guide I believe. They had ones for every other kind of card leastwise.
