Vincent Karaman

Age: 23
Race: Human (Half Arab, Half Islander)
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown
Skin: Light Brown
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 170lbs.
Occupation: Fisherman
Alignment: Neutral Evil

Personality:
Vincent is of a rather selfish nature. And that is how he has to be. All of his life he has had to look out for himself and that has taken away from him a certain compassion in most people. He has reverted to the most primitive instincts of animals. He is constantly thinking of survival, how he will eat today, how he will sleep today. He is not unwilling to help others, but if he isn't getting anything out of it he sees no point in doing so. His need to survive has so far in his life completely overshadowed any sexual interest, and any interest in ever finding companionship or even love. He rarely has feelings for a person and even then will rarely show it because of his constant concentration of living.

Appearance:
Vincent is not a body builder but at the same time isn't scrawny. Years and years of having to fend for himself have built up quite a tough human. His skin is of a light brown tone, and his eyes are also brown. His hair is black (sometimes small hints of brown in the sunlight) and usually seen in a slightly wavy and disorganized pattern for his complete disregard to how he appears to others. His hair falls down to just about his shoulders. Is usually seen wearing a simple white tunic, slightly dirty, and similarly dirty light brown pants which have been torn into shorts a little below his knee. Almost no facial hair. Whether he is handsome or not he knows/cares not, but a few of the female inhabitants of "The Strip" have been noted as having taking rather long stares.

History:

Dennison Notebook – entry dated about 18 years ago

…this place really is getting way too fucking crazy. Today, Sarah came home with a five year old boy, a five fucking year old boy. She said she found him in the market with bread running away from some angry baker. Apparently the poor thing is already skilled in the art of petty theft. Sarah cleared it up with the man quickly seeing as she can never see another person actually punished for their wrong doings. Dolt. But anyway, she paid him a few times over the price of the bread, using our money! The Strips money! She really fucking is a dolt I have to say to go wasting perfectly good money on getting yet another mouth to feed down here, I mean we already have to worry about ourselves and our own children, and she goes and find more children to support? And this isn’t the first time that bitch has done this either, why I remember just…

Dennison Notebook – entry dated about 16 years ago

…I really thought she was eventually going to get rid of the thing, just like she grew tired of all the other poor things that have had the misfortune to have come into contact with such a fickle heart, but she didn’t. Sarah actually has been able to take care of the thing. It’s actually quite interesting. She’s started to teach him to fish to, so that he isn’t a complete burden and might one day actually pull his weight around here. A scary idea, yes, but…

Dennison Notebook – entry dated about 14 years ago

…all dead. Among the names coming back are Brennan, Sarah, and Gary. Vincent got hurt in some way, but they really know what’s going on with him yet. Poor little boy. It’s really too bad, on top of whatever is wrong with him Sarah is gone now...

…he’s going to have to fend for himself now really. I think he’ll do fine though. This place isn’t so brutal to people. He’ll find his way. He’ll find his way. Sarah was with him for what? Four years? And his real parents for five? He has to be tough to have lived through that, he has to be...and not too much of Sarah’s incompetence could have rubbed off on him yet…

Dennison Notebook – entry dated about 11 years ago

…I always thought it odd the way she wrote in this little book so much, and yet here I am, recording my own thoughts in here. I still haven’t found the pages she wrote though…really rather odd. Either way, she left me this so I will see what I can record…

The Strip isn’t such a bad life for the boy. And after seven years he must have come to like the beach by now. I mean he has a small community of children, the children of the thieves that make up our little lean-to town on the shores of whatever-the-fuck they’re calling this ocean now, yes, but they’re still children. And he’s developed quite a bit of skill in fishing too, living on the beach for the past seven years…

…I don’t think he’s gone into town or into the forest or anywhere ever since that day long forgotten that Sarah brought him in, rags covered in dirt…couldn’t help but note the way her gentle face looked that night…too bad…he’s pretty much been here on the beach since then…must feel like home…

Dennison Notebook – entry dated about 8 years ago

…he’s fifteen years old now…and he’s already showing signs of being part of our little vile cesspool of sin…he stole a dagger just the other day…most of the guys congratulated him on his first piece of loot rather than give a damn that the boy they’d seen grow up in this shithole rather well was now turning down the same path they’d all seen give them the misery that grips them today…he always talks about getting the hell out of here too…

He spends a lot of time alone now, out on the beach fishing. The only time I seem to see him anymore is when he comes with the day’s catch of fish for us all. I wonder what goes on in his head in all of that solitude…he doesn’t seem to have a single friend…makes no sense, I mean John, Mark, and Jorge all grew up with him, or at least something like grew up with him…

Dennison Notebook – entry dated about 4 years ago

Chris is gone…my book now apparently…

Vincent was getting a few stares from Mary and Molly today…I don’t think the bastard even fucking noticed…not even when she…he’s a friggin’ airhead…he doesn’t give a shit about anyone anymore…he just goes off into his dream land and thinks and thinks and dreams and dreams, and catches our meals…but not much else…and who the fuck knows what he’s doing up there in his head too…

…I wonder if he remembers anything…I doubt it the way he acts…

Dennison Notebook – entry dates about 2 years ago

Vincent seems to be getting serious about leaving The Strip…says that a gang of thugs is no good for him…needs time to go find himself…some bullshit about making it on his own…not needing people to lean on…doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do…he’s a fucking psychopath is what he is…that’s all he is…never going to make it on his own…

…he’s strong, but he doesn’t know how to fight. He can sneak, and he can get food as long as there are fish in the sea, but can he defend himself? I really don’t know. He won’t be able to sneak around every faggot that threatens him, will he? He needs to learn…he can’t just abandon us without a fisherman…and what about himself?...he won’t make it…he won’t…

Dennison Notebook – entry dates only a few months ago

I can’t believe he’s really leaving…I never got to get close to him…I can’t believe…I wish me and him had gotten closer…then he could have stayed…and me and him…we could…it would be so good…he could change…he’s a nice guy on the inside I know it…he’s just been desensitized by having to do all this shit on his own…he could love…why does he have to go?...I’m going to give him this book tomorrow…a lot of people here have owned this journal…their writing always seems to disappear…I wonder if he’ll ever read what I’m writing…

Skills:

Moderate Fishing
Has knowledge of the proper manner to go about efficiently catching fish. In the area of Althanas in which he dwells he has become very well acquainted with the different kinds of fish, their sizes, as well as the kind of bait that attracts them, although if he were to encounter new coasts his knowledge wouldn't be as impressive.

Moderate Stealth
Having to sneak around his entire life just to eat, Vincent has developed a bit of a stealthy nature, able to move around conscious of his environment and the noise that he makes and how to reduce it. He can easily sneak by a dull witted idiot, and can sneak around someone of average intelligence who is awake but not particularly paranoid if he has a good amount of time to work with. Someone particularly bright and on alert would prove very hard for him to get around. Cannot move from stealthy movements to attacking someone very well yet, usually giving himself away just before striking.

Equipment:

Nicolae's Cloak
An item given to Vincent upon his leaving of "The Strip". It is a long dark brown cloak which falls down to less than an inch from the ground when Vincent wears it. There are no decorations other than a simple gold-colored trim on the edges. The cloak was stolen from a wizard who had casted a few spells upon the garment. On the inside of the cloak are many pockets and loops of various shape and size for holding almost anything, and when concealed under the cloak, the weight of the item seems to disappear from the person wearing the cloak. That is to say, the cloak makes anything that a traveler carries in it weightless. The fabric also appears to be extremely water resistant. Named for the wizard it was stolen from.

Reed Fishing Pole
The same old fishing pole that Vincent has used his entire life. Made of a simple reed structure which is about four feet long and folds in three different places to collapse to only one foot long. Visible scratches and other signs of aging cover it.

Titus' Dagger
Vincent's first weapon, stolen in his desperation. The steel blade is old and shows it, with scratches and marks left by time all over it. The blade is about five inches long and very thin. It is of the stiletto design, with a large metal ball at the bottom of the black handle, and the wings of the hilt ending in smaller metallic balls. Named after the man Vincent stole it from.

Karacabei Machete
The old and worn out machete given to Vincent as a gift on his leaving of "The Strip". It is covered with stains, scratches, and other marks left over its years and years of service to the inhabitants of "The Strip". The steel blade is only about two millimeters thick, and is about twenty inches long. As most of the items found in "The Strip", this was stolen, however, it is named after the barely legible word inscribed about an inch from the black handle.

Dennison Notebook
Yet another gift given to him when he left his home. It is a simple notebook, about ten by eight inches, and about half an inch thick. The outside covers are green, and the paper on the inside is plain white. Stolen from a merchant, this item, although looking to be a normal notebook, can actually store an almost unlimited amount of writing. When someone opens the notebook it appears blank. They then may write out a date upon the first page, and in a few seconds, upon turning the page, the reader will discover all that was written in the book on that date scribbled out on the remaining pages. To clear the book of those writings one only has to write another date upon the first page, or write today's date so as to make an entry for today. Writing a future date does nothing and any writing done with a future date written will not save the writing in the book's magical "memory". Named for the word written on the inside of the front cover in the top left corner.

Neat. The cloak isn't unreasonable, even though when I read the name I began to get nervous. :p

Approved, fisherman. 100 EXP bonus because I've never seen a fisherman, and the idea is really cool.
