Name: Rain

Age: 30

Gender: Male

Race: Son of Gaia*

Description: The most striking feature that is most instantly recognized when eyes are lain upon Rain, is that there is not a single piece of clothing on his body that would require the sacrifice of a living creature. Acting as gauntlets, deftly smoothed roots have been cured, softened, and wrapped around his right wrist, palm, and fingers so that he can draw back a taught bowstring without strain to his skin. The bark also acts as a guard, for the grain runs parallel to his body, and proves very hard to slice along the grain of the wood when he uses the gauntlet as a guard. His clothing is comprised entirely of what seems to be a cross of softened, woven wood and wool. To the touch, it feels like silk, but provides protection to elements similar to being covered in wood armor. The shirt is a skin-tight tunic, sleeveless, that is tucked into his pants. His pants are made of the same woven materials, and come down to his bare feet. Though hidden under his pants, he wears shin guards made of the same roots that encircle his right wrist, and these wrap around his entire shin and one root slivers across the arch of his foot, that part flat to not hinder his movement. In total, his clothing is mostly brown and he would, if standing against a tree, blend in very well. His skin has darkened to what seems to be a light shade of browns itself, not a natural skin color, and his entire build has a fluid natural feel. However, his hair color* is a yellowish red that is reminiscent of fall leaves. Perfectly clear emeralds stare out from his eyes, surrounded by a face that is always serene and beautiful in a childish yet mature fashion. He is strong, by all standards. On his left arm there is a tattoo of a tree, uprooted, where its empty branches twine around him upper arm and the roots encircle his wrist, the trunk reaching the distance between. It is uncolored, and is only an outline done is dark purple ink. An oddity that most wouldn't catch up on is that though he is a hunter, Rain does not have a single blemish or scar on his body.

Weapons:
Oak Bow: A bow that was kindly sung from an elder oak. The bow is thick and quite difficult to string. It takes skill and familiar touch to know exactly how to bend it in order to string it. The string that goes with it appears to be some sort of root, yet has tightness of metal and doesn't become slack of left strung for long periods of time. The string seems immune to the effects of heat and moisture. The bow itself is smoothed and covered with some sort of natural sheen. A single silver feather adorns the top of the bow, slightly hiding the string slot.

Armor: Rain wears clothing that is a combination of wood [tier 2] and wool. It provides him with protection from heat, cold, and possibly a glancing wound. The arm guard and shin guards he has are stronger, since they are solid wood, and if struck perpendicular to the grain, can block a decently powerful bladed weapon. Arrows will normally pierce the armor with little effort.

Items: Rain carries four satchels and a quiver with him at all times when in human form. These items seem to meld into his being when he shifts, and are always present when he returns to human form. The first of the bags contains seeds of a Yggdrasil Root, a small tree that when planted under a full moon will instantly grow to three for four feet and sprout anywhere between two to ten fruit. Its fruit can wash away fatigue and increase healing rates and even provide a cure for weaker poisons. The fruit cannot be eaten in excess, and if more then one is consumed within a moon cycle the body will become dependant and will go into withdrawal when it can no longer be fed. Each tree provides as many seeds as it does fruit, so his bag is always replenished. The replenishing abilities of the fruit will increase the healing rate of a person anywhere from 10 to 30 times faster then normal. Depending on how much damage their body has sustained, they will have less and less effect. They can only sustain people who are on the brink of death, but can't bring them back.

His quiver is full of wooden arrows that are filed down to an extremely sharp tip. They are made of woven wood and will pierce as well as a steel tipped arrow. Rain borrows them from oak and yew trees.

The second satchel is for his gold, which only has 100 coins at the moment due to a small parting gift from his mother. It is only a start, so that he may find his way in the world of humans.

The third satchel has a single pure white pearl inside it. Rain is still not sure why his mother gave him this, but she told him that it would come to great use when the time was right. The pearl contains enormous amounts of mana, but none of which can be drawn upon and barely felt unless in close proximity. The quantity of energy in it is impossible to determine by Rain, for his skill in magic is almost non-existent.

The fourth and final bag contains small balls which, when thrown, will emit a loud and extremely bright magnesium flare. The effect of which lasts only a few seconds, yet will temporarily blind anyone who looked in the direction of the flare. If someone looks directly at the flare, his or her vision may be damaged for a long period of time, but sight itself will turn after a short duration.

Proficiencies:
Rain is quite proficient in Archer and can probably hit the target 7 times out of 10, and hit the bull’s eye once out of 10.

Gaia's Grants:
Formless: Rain can change into any beast of the woods simply by willing it upon himself. However, when he changes, he cannot change his body mass or size. That said, he cannot change into things smaller then himself, and if he tries, it will be incredibly odd and not convincing at all. However, it is sometimes useless to be able to change into a giant eagle or an overly large spider. When he changes into an animal, he gains their full abilities but loses most of his natural abilities. He can still commune with other animals, but only creatures that are the same species as his current race. He can no longer commune with plants or feel the weather. However, he can change into any other form from any form, and doesn't need to revert to human. When changing into any form that isn't humanoid, all of his clothing and gear melds into his body and stays there, and will return to its proper place when he shifts back. Even his bow, if it is touching him, will meld in. Each time he changes into a form he will look the same, so he cannot shift into different humans or different animal appearances of the same species.

Strangely, as a side effect of this, Rain can change his hair or fur color and length in any form he is in. The colors are often only the colors natural to a species, except when in human form. When in human form, the colors are limited to the colors of fall leaves.

This is his only skill that really has limits. He can only shape shift once an hour, and shortly after shifting he is slightly dazed, but only for a few seconds. It is not a good idea to shift during battle, or when running away. If he doesn’t shift for up to a month, he will begin to forget that he can shift and eventually be unable to change again. When he gets stuck in a form, he will lose most of his memory and become that form, and will even lose his improved abilities.

Nature's Voice: Rain can speak to any aspect of nature, as long as they are still aligned with Gaia. Any animate creature can hear and understand his thoughts when directed at them. With plants, he must touch them, however roots connect entire forests, so he must only touch one, or even the grass. As he goes barefoot, whenever he is in a forest he is often connected with the entirety of it. He can often ask favors of the trees and forest, for it knows him and recognizes him. Bushes will hide him and trees will help him, when they can.

Weather's Touch: Rain can sense any weather changes and determine them up to a half hour before they occur. He can sense this even if underground or inside a building, but the precognition is delayed and may only be 15 minutes before when not in open air.

Gaia's Strength: Rain is slightly more enduring, faster, and stronger then a normal human. If given to percentages, he would currently be 15% better in all aspects then a normal human. However his hearing and sight senses are almost 40% better. These apply also to any form he takes, yet becomes that much better then an average version of that species. Also, Rain is able to withstand minor poisons and pathogens with greater proficiency. His body is completely perfect in any form he is in, and his physical regeneration leaves no marks or blemishes. After thirty, he will never age again, yet his hair will still grow.

Son of Gaia: {Racial Explanation}
Rain was made as a construct that Gaia herself birthed. He himself is not sure how he came into being, however he knows that he is not the son of any living being except Gaia and the life stream. Though not sure what form is his natural form, Rain feels most comfortable in humanoid and lupine bodies. He is made of flesh and bone and when in any form is almost indiscernible from a natural creature of that species except for his slight increase in ability. Gaia created him to hunt down those who have defied her, dubbed by his mother “The Defilers”. They are most often human or some sort of monster, yet even a forest squirrel can become traitor. Creatures that have betrayed Gaia are beings that have furthered the destruction of Gaia’s spirit, or the life stream itself. Any large-scale unnatural catastrophe that greatly unbalances nature would be an act of betrayal.

History:

“Breathe, boy, and stand up. You are born now into this world, as my son. When you have matured to thrice ten years of age, you must leave this grove and enter the real world. I cannot possibly teach you the extent of your abilities, and you must learn from experience what all you can do. For now, my son, rest here and live, and learn. I cannot guide you after you leave here.

Son, you are to be my hunter.”

Rain woke up, the words echoing in his dreams. He was thirty now, and memories of the day he woke blurred his vision. His body had not aged a day since then, though his muscles were defined and hardened over the time. This day, he would have to leave, and he didn’t wish it. Glancing around the grove, which had been his home for so long, he smiled and kissed the air, acknowledging his sleeping mother. It was night, but dawn would be coming soon, and with it the presence of his mother would follow. The small bubbling creak that ran under the roots of the giant trees surrounding his home was cold this morning as he bathed. Memories flooded back.

It was raining that morning, his eyes opening to find the first sight of his life, a rainbow arching over the sunrise. The first word his mother had taught him was rain, and thus that became the name he gave himself. For she told him every human must have a name, even if he wasn’t a human. To live among them is to accept some of their customs, for after thrice ten years he must venture into their lands.

It had been fall then, the end of his Mother’s wakeful period. Leaves fell all around him and a dark red one landed on his forehead. Liking the color, he felt his hair change to suit it. Shortly after he was galloping through the forest in the form of a large wolf, testing him limits. He could outrun the other wolves, even with his unrefined muscles. Even then, Rain knew he was special.

He was mother’s Hunter.

With a loud sigh, Rain drew himself from the icy fall water, dressing quickly and whispering to the roots in the gloves to wrap tightly around his arm and thighs. The wind spoke to him, bringing news of an approaching storm. Rain had heralded his birth, and would send him on his way as he left the vicinity of the grove for the first time in thirty years. In comparison to what his Mother told him and spoke of, he was but a child. She was infinitely wise in her uncountable years of existence, a spirit so powerful that she had taken upon the entire earth to contain her life line. Her children, walking the planet’s surface and growing were being threatened worse and worse. That’s why, Gaia said, that he had been born. Rain was, in fact, her Hunter.

To hunt down those who no longer cared for Gaia, defiled the planet and the life that lived there. Causing catastrophes that unbalanced nature, these beings must be brought to justice. After all this time, his Mother finally grew angry and decided to strike back. However, she is a spirit of patience, and only bore one son to this purpose. One would be enough, for now. Her pride in this boy made it impossible to let him fail, and she refused to birth another unless he was slain. Or, so she told him.

Rain, though, wasn’t alone. He never felt alone when in the forest, connected with all the plants and animals around him. Gaia told him in whispers, though, that when in a city he would be disconnected, utterly individual. The boy couldn’t possibly imagine what it would feel like, and even doubted it.

A slow downpour marked his time to leave, and he gathered his equipment and whispered a final farewell to his home. The trek into “civilization” began.

The Hunt is on, my Son

This is a well-formatted, thought out, and generally nice profile. You're getting a 100 EXP bonus upon approval, my friend. However, I need you to make some modifications...

Be a bit clearer about the Yggdrasil fruits' effect, particularly its healing capabilities. Also, I'd really rather not approve the flare balls in light of your skills but if you really want them, tell me how many there are (few, preferably).

I was hesitant about Formless at first, but you did an exemplary job of making it level-accurate. Congratulations, you can keep it as is.

By the way, I won't allow you to sell the bow, pearl or seeds at the Bazaar, though I doubt this will be an issue.

I am thinking he only has three or four, for emergencies only. The only reason they are fair is because if Rain gets stuck in close combat in a hurry, he has no other defenses. He wouldn't have enough time to shift, and his bow is practically useless point blank.

I edited in the Yggdrasil Fruit's healing rate.

Most happily approved.

(Someone else will handle the bonus.)
