Leareth
05-06-08, 08:38 AM
Name: Leareth
Age: Indeterminate
Race: Winterborn
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Ranges from Black to Gold
Height: 6'1
Weight: 180lbs
Occupation: Necromancer

Personality: Leareth seems incredibly calm at all times, though when his temper is roused, it can be a terrible thing to behold. He constantly struggles against his hunger for human blood, and subsists off of the blood of animals, rather than murder humans simply to exist.

Appearance: Tall and statuesque, Leareth is the epitome of physical perfection, with chiseled features and well defined muscles. His hair is worn long, and falls in waves down his back. His eyes fade from a topaz-gold color to almost total black with his hunger, and his temper shortens similarly. As his eye color changes, visible agitation is more apparent, and at their darkest, he visibly has to fight the urge to feed, shuddering and breathing heavily. The only other striking feature about his looks is the permanent dark circles underneath his eyes.

History: As one of the last of a theoretically dead race, Leareth took up forbidden arts to possibly save himself and those like him. When young, Winterborn are incredibly strong and deadly, but like humans, as they age they weaken. Leareth is old, and despairs at the thought that with his death the race will end. There is old magic that might create more of his race, but a human must desire the change, or seek a Winterborn that can resist the urge to feed enough to change someone rather than kill them. When he was young, so many centuries ago, he was turned by an accident, bitten by a weak and underfed elder, who was killed before he could finish the deed. Fearing the same fate for himself, Leareth fled through crippling pain and hid for three days till the pain faded. He had died, but he was not dead. He now roams Althanas, continuing to seek a way to both preserve his adopted race, and his own life.

Skills:

Winterborn Traits:

Strength Bonus: Young Winterborn are considerably stronger than humans, but Leareth is old, and without some sort of preservative or temporal magic, his strength will continue to decrease to human average. His strength has deteriorated to human average. Without remedy, it will remain at this point forever.

Speed Bonus: Young Winterborn are similarly faster than humans, and Leareth is similarly not the fastest of his race after so long in this world. His speed has deteriorated to human average. Without remedy, it will remain at this point forever.

Durability: His skin was once hard as granite. He is old and frail, and he is vulnerable as any human, as such he wears armor and tries to keep his enemies away as much as possible. As with all his abilities, if he could reverse the flow of time for himself, he could restore his lost toughness.

Smell and Sight: He can smell and see better and farther than a human. He is afflicted with the Winterborn equivalent of allergies, and is almost constantly congested, negating his scent ability, unless he can find some bypass to his affliction. His vision is approximately twice as good as a humans, he may view an object twenty feet away as though it were only ten feet away, and with equal clarity.

Cold Body: Not an ability, but an effect. His body feels like ice when touched, no matter the ambient temperature, hence the name Winterborn.

Shine: When exposed to direct sunlight, his body sparkles like ice. He wears heavy clothing to prevent this, as it often draws unwanted, and negative attention.

Venom: His saliva is venomous, and causes great pain. It is also the method by which he might create other Winterborn. He is morally opposed to using it in that manner, as it would require him to ingest human blood in the process. He will envenom his dagger with his saliva however, though anyone struck with it is likely to die rather than be turned.

Insomnia: Winterborn are incapable of sleep, their equivalent is feeding, which restores them as sleep restores a person.

The Hunger: Leareth must constantly resist the pull of Human blood. It would sustain him better than the animals he lives off of, but would also be morally repugnant to him. Those that feed off of humans often become twisted, and tend to die, killed by vengeful humans or other racial enemies.

The only weapons with which he has any skill are daggers and crossbows. He is average in their use.

Spells:

Dragons Tooth: Fires a small projectile of magical energy. He may user this an almost unlimited number of times per day, though he may not use it more than 5 times within any ten minute span.

Light: Light sprouts from whatever object he touches. He can use this in conjunction with an arrow or crossbow bolt to illuminate distant areas. He may dictate the form the light takes, though if not otherwise stated, it appears as a 20 foot radius of illumination. He can cast this three times per day.

Rituals:

Spells that cannot be cast in the heat of battle, rituals are spells cast in a very lengthy and set manner. After casting a ritual his magical energies are depleted for an entire day, and he cannot cast anthing else.

Raise Dead: Leareth may raise one undead servant. It takes 5 hours, and raises a weak undead. It retains no abilities from its former life. Skeletons and Zombies raised like this cannot use weapons. They also decay rapidly. Depending on the original condition of the corpse, they may last no more than a week.

Equipment:

Pack with traveling and magic supplies.

Daggers(2), steel

Crossbow, light

10 crossbow bolts, steel broadheads

30 crossbow bolts, steel bodkin tips

Leather Armor

Heavy cloak and other clothing

Emessi Tome: The book that contains all his spells. A very thick book, it is chained around his waist so that it cannot be stolen from him. He cannot cast the majority of the spells contained within. Any spell within could be cast as a ritual, but most would take days, or even weeks to complete, for very minor effects considering the time invested. Taking a week to cast lightning bolt is downright wasteful.

Familiars:

Leareth has an undead stag familiar. It is a ten point whitetail with about a fourteen inch spread and brow tines, if that will mean anything to anyone but me.

Raise undead - the zombie or skeleton that Leareth raises can only stay around for az limited amount of time, as the spell quickly decays it's body. I'm not giving you an exact time limit, but am expecting you to use your better judgement when using this spell.

I'll give him a week, since it takes him so long to cast. After that the bones themselve simply turn to dust, having been decomposed beyond sustainability. I'll use my better judgement and give myself a time limit so I'm not tempted.
