Cassidy
05-20-08, 07:52 PM
Name: Dr. Paul Cassidy
Age: 39
Race: Human
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Green
Height: 5’’9
Weight: 178 lbs
Occupation: Physician

Personality: A quiet, taciturn man by nature, Cassidy is known more for listening than talking, but when he does speak, he usually knows the right thing to say. Having seen the atrocities of war, Cassidy has sunken into the practice of medicine as a sort of way of making amends for things he has done during the war which inevitably puts a bit of distance between himself and others no matter how intimate he is with them. The doctor holds himself personably responsible for his actions and will go the extra mile to see that things get done, even if it is to prove somebody wrong. It has been proven time and time again that Paul is infinitely resourceful, and while many consider him to have a rather quiet, domineering personality, he tends to be the person others turn to look to in times of crisis. Although his expression is usually hardened and lacks emotion, the people who know Cassidy understand that he is better known by his actions rather than by his expression.

Appearance: Short cropped hair and a face of soft, tanned complexion, Paul has always held a charisma about him with his sterling green eyes. Possessing bifocals, one rarely sees Cassidy without them. He is of rather short height and of thin build, and it isn’t uncommon for others to stand taller than him, but he has never let himself be intimidated by anybody. Usually dressed in a suit and vest, it’s easy to see that the man has done fairly well for himself in his practice. Cassidy is usually clean shaven and his hair cut short, allowing himself to have a sort of air about him that lets people know a lot of the time he spent in the military has rubbed off. He is missing part of his left ring finger that was torn off from a bullet back in the days as a soldier.

History:

I

Born on a somber day in October within the rolling slums of Corone, the boy who would later become Paul Cassidy was born right in the middle of a crippling Depression that caught the country in it's grasp. He is of six siblings, three of which would meet the ghostly choir before the Depression was in its death throes. While his father worked as a shoe cobbler, Paul's mother was a school teacher before the worst of the crisis had happened, after that she served as the family's full-time matron. Despite the stern but loving upbringing his parents gave him, as soon as he and his brothers were old enough to walk, each were sent to a textile factory to work to help put food on the table. While he was raised in a humble home at the brink of backbreaking poverty, Paul worked in the factories until his brother, Fredrick, lost his right hand in an incident concerning one of the automatic lathes. By the time he was eight, Paul and the Cassidy family had been evicted from three flats and with a brief eight month stint of living on the streets, Paul vowed to himself he'd never let this happen when he had a family.

At the age of twelve, Paul watched as the economic depression subsided and the hardships slowly melted away. Although he and his siblings had been home schooled since he was four, Paul only began his formal education when he was thirteen. Quickly discovering he had a passion for learning, Paul read anything he could find, was diligent in his studies, and excelled in school that his heightened intellect and gift of academics would follow him for the rest of his life. At the age of seventeen, as things began to roll along smoothly, it seemed that Paul would eventually find a place in life when he was offered an invitation to one of the top colleges in the country, Thasiel. Paul managed to attend two years within the academy in his studies of physics until tragedy struck.

Back at home, his father, Cecil, had suffered from an anurism and was rushed to the nearest hospital. With the incompetence of the surgeon at hand, Paul's father may have survived the surgery but later died with what experts had said to be a massive infection caused by contaiminated schools. Dumbstruck, Paul soon lost all contact with his family as he went on a drinking binge, alcohol later becoming the one vice he couldn't shake. He wandered about Corone after dropping out of the academy, sifting from bar to bar as he tries to wrestle with his grief of his father's untimely death. It was with the concerted efforts of his brothers Simon and Fredrick that Paul was pulled back from the brink. Only once he had been that Paul realized how short life really was.

At the age of twenty when a civil war within Fallien had broken out, Paul enlisted into the Coronian military that would claim to be the peacekeeper of both sides, but was responsible for most of the deaths that had occurred in the war. Serving as infantry, Paul proved again how resourceful he could be and quickly through the ranks until he was offered a place in the Coronian Rangers which he later refused when one of his comrades was blown away in friendly fire by one of the Rangers. By the time he was twenty-six, Paul had returned from war with medals and achievements that both cataloged and displayed his feats of bravery and initiative. It wasn't six months later until his brother Fredrick found out he suffered from a case of shellshock, and he'd battle with the unspeakable horrors of war for the next seven years until he received psychological care.

During which, a hardened, grim man returned to school and would graduate at the age of thirty-two with a degree in medicine. Still unable to shake the complete toll the war had on him, Paul returned to Fallien for two years, now as a doctor. He roved from village to village of his former enemies with hired mercenaries and two other physicians to treat the outbreak of malaria. It took only a year before he met Elira, a fellow physician with a dry wit and a sharp english accent, who would later become his wife after they returned to Corone and bear him a daughter, Paige.

Within the next year, Paul and his colleagues established a lucrative practice in Corone and in less than two years he bought an estate in Loxum where he raises his family today. However, as Paul would soon discover, life for him was about to get grim.

Skills:

Passive Abilities:

Learned Man: Whether it is through books or a trial by fire, Cassidy can catch on to any given situation fairly quickly, allowing him to be both resourceful and self-reliant. Possessing such intelligence has allowed the physician to make the best out of a bad situation and has made a living knowing a little about everything rather than knowing little about anything.

GI: At one time Cassidy learned of the horrors of war as a younger man when he joined service and served in combat. Because of this, the physician has been trained in several forms of combat making him a force to be reckoned with when it comes to hand-to-hand combat. Cassidy is 1.5x stronger and faster in combat than a typical civilian, and it has also given him an intimate knowledge with survival in the wilderness and added to his resourcefulness.

Active Abilities:

Scrapper: Cassidy can spar with the best of them, and because of his knowledge in the medical field he knows which bones to break, which muscles to bruise, and which parts of the body to attack to either cripple or subdue an enemy and make him an average brawler.

First Aid: Cassidy has attended medical school and graduated with top marks, making him an expert in the human anatomy and possess above average knowledge in treating infections and diseases, he can also treat patients for a wide range of injuries, but still lacks much of the knowledge needed to treat internal ailments, which stands more because of the time period he lives in rather than skill level.

Armorer: Paul has handled firearms before in times of war and outside of them, making him average in skill. The veteran’s knowledge extends to small guns and to rifles, knowing how to reload, aim, and shoot for up to 50yards regardless of the weapon and still possess remarkable accuracy. He also has a bit of know-how when it comes to repairing and maintaining functionality of his firearms.

Equipment:

Medical Bag: A handled, black leather bag that contains everything from syringes to thread to stitch flesh back together. It weighs a fair amount and the tools alone are worth a small fortune to the right buyer, but they tend to only be useful to those who possess the knowledge to use them.

10 rolls of cloth: Thatched together in a criss-cross fashion, the rolls are used as both gauze and bandages. Made of linen.

Silver Pocket watch and watch fob: Given to him by his wife as a present on their seventh wedding anniversary, the watch works up to the second and contains a picture of the couple with their daughter, Paige. The fob has an intricate design of two turtle doves flying together and has the inscription “Til' Death” engraved on the back.

Brass clasped case: Contains four moist, freshly rolled cigars that can be kept safe from the elements and still preserve their acrid flavor. Has a small compartment at the top that can hold matches.

Pocket knife: A multiple utility knife given to him by a comrade in the military, it is made of maple wood while the tools inside are made of steel. Tools range from a cork opener to a small saw.

Steel Panga: Elven inches in length and made from steel, Paul kept this as a souvenir from his days as a soldier and uses it more for show than for practice. But, having been within primitive borders before, Paul knows that something like this will never lose its usefulness. Includes leather sheath that is embroidered with a phrase in the Fallienite tongue that translates roughly as, "Friend of the Mohawanzi".

Bifocals: Steel rimmed and made of carefully chiseled glass, these glasses are arguably the one thing that keeps Paul from going blind for he cannot see a thing without them. Very durable.
