General Ramblings Thread; Religions on Althanas, Currency, etc.

Rather than create separate threads for everything I want to bring up, I'll just keep it in one. I got a lot of them at various times.

I am thinking of a new character (or rather, an old character rethought), and instead of going with the vague christian god, I was wondering what the Althanas equivalents where? I know there's The Sway, Thaynes, and such, but I want something similar to a one-god system where said god is still fairly ambiguous.

Also, currency. How do you denote large sums of money? Coins of various value with 100 or 1000 on them? I'm not sure what paper money exists (if any), but carrying around single crowns seems cumbersome and unrealistic.

I have other topics to talk about but I'm tired and sleepy so I'll get to it later.

God-wise, I think we've got a few full-blown Christians and Jews on Althanas. So, some variant of the Judeo-Christian meta-religion does exist, probably complete with at least a Moses and/or Christ figure somewhere way back in history.

Which'd be pretty badass when you think about the kinds of epic faith-on-faith battles that'd cause.

Currency-wise, I think everyone just uses gold. 'Swhat I do in my own RPs, right down to lampshading it when Caden got haulled off to Kebira/Kelbira/K??bira. Which, as it turns out, is also where most of Althanas' black population apparently is since it was roughly equivelent to Africa in that RP. Admittedly, it was a solo and I don't know if anyone else went back and built on any of it, so take that for what little it's worth.

People often make up their own currency that has a gold equivalent. I know Findelfin used thin sheets of mythril that were worth 1000 gold and Letho used Coronian Crowns marked with different denominations. I personally never use any amount of money that would require this, so I haven't bothered with it.

As for religion, I use the Thayne so I couldn't help you :)

Monotheistic Religion Suggestion - Check with Zook Murnig aka Preggerz. He should be able to help you learn more about his Qaballist ways. ;)

Otherwise, I think the Sway is the closest to Established Lore religion there is. Otherwise, just create something to fill in the gaps. That's the fun in this kind of forum - Jump in with your own interpretations and religions sects. We don't mind. ^_^

(Unless it's hell-bend on world domination and has the resources to do it... Then that will have to be taken up by the Mod Rangers for discussion. ^_^; )

If you look through the religion section of Caduceus' profile, you'll find that his religion is similar to a mix of Judaism and Paganism, with a little Christ thrown in. He believes in one god, but acknowledges the Thaynes and other gods as aspects of the One True God. As well, his religion focuses on the divine spark within each individual, mapped out as the Tree of Life.

And as far as coinage, I believe Findelfin's mithral coins were iron-centered and all the same size. You knew what was worth more by which was lighter, because the cheaper ones had a larger iron core with less mithral coating, and the higher-value ones had smaller cores with more coating.

Okay, well, I'm keeping religion vague for now. I don't know if Zook's thing will be compatible with for me completely, but at most I'll be using the concept of god, the bible, and biblical phrases.

Also, I need to make a city that has orphanages and a church on the outlying areas. Should it be in Concordia or more closer to Radasanth? I would rather have it be my own city, so I can have more control over what happens in it for big storylines.

I don't know how many parts it will be, but I want to cover all of Ledan's pre-profile history and there are no solos. Even though most of the openings are for NPCs and etc, I want people to be involved. I see many threads, all occurring at different periods of Ledan's life from 8 to his current age, maybe 1-2 year jumps. Each time jump will accompany its own sub-plot, as well as the over-arching story. I want to create something, and I hope people will help me along the way.
