View Full Version : How Everything Begins

Vornwin
05-30-08, 11:23 AM
Full Name: Vornwin Derkron
Race: Demon
Age: 8905
Visual Appearance: 22 year old human
Gender: Male
Hair Color: Silver
Eye Color: Crimson
Skin Color: Tanned
Height: 6’
Weight: 212lbs

Personality:

Egocentric doesn't even begin to touch the depths that Vornwin thinks of himself. Lacking paternal figures in his life, Vornwin realized he was his only supporter and all others were either obstacles in his path or tools for his ends. Being his only trusted advisor, once his mind is set on a certain way to accomplish a task, it’s near impossible for it to be swayed or prevented. Though spawned to primarily collect souls and carry out other nefarious demonic deeds, this demon through centuries of conducting evil upon all living beings slowly developed a conscious. Century’s worth of ruthlessness conducted by him to twist innocents into violent murders, to convince lovers to betray and give into their lustrous desires, or to stain lives of once prominent heroes, to corrupt beaurocrats, gave birth to him having sympathy for others.

Though Vornwin is a demon, he holds a stalwart conscious of what is just and unjust. Still, despite his convictions, they never block his judgment nor prevent him from carrying out his commands; such emotions only gather and weight themselves upon his conscious, which is always growing darker with every growing sin that he does upon this world.

Appearance:

Despite his age and race, Vornwin’s physical appearance resembles that of an early aged twenty year-old human male; at closer inspection however, his eye’s of dark crimson clearly portray otherwise. Donning a dark finely spun linen shirt that hugs his torso well but loosens lazily as it runs further down his arms; clashing with pants that had been fashioned from leather some time ago, but harsh wear had faded the once black dye in various area’s exposing the natural brown coloring. Though Vornwin’s clothing hung loosely about him, his muscles were still clearly noticeable underneath them.

A tarnished silver color filled the demon’s hair that sprawled on top his head, a style much resembling weeds running amuck in an unkept flower bed. Hair roughly outstretches before Vornwin’s face, shadowing the majority of it above his nose, what can be seen is a face that seems to be darker in complexion then the majority of the rest of his body, rough stubbles of hair having survived a few days without a shave and a pair of satin eye’s that burn viciously from the owner.

History:

Life is the search of finding the reason of your existence and excelling at it, imagine being born already mastered in what you would be doing for all eternity…and hate it. Vornwin was created when the time of the demon was at its pinnacle, when thousands pledged their mortal souls to an eternity of hellish torment in exchange for an idiotic betterment in a world that mattered little. This was the persona trained unto all soul collectors, that all races were merely husks containing riches far beyond their comprehension.

Before soul collectors, typical minions, imps and the occasional rebellious pixie scampered about luring people to give them their souls, it wasn’t till a realization that evil was done on a far greater scale by civilizations own people, that they got the idea to send wolves in sheep’s clothing. Only a few hundred soul collectors were created and cast out into the world, their results were amazing. Soul harvesting tripled miraculously overnight, it was so obvious, if a demon couldn’t convince them to sin, then they would lead them towards it disguised as one of their own.

Vornwin was among the top leading collectors, having the exact same merits given to all collectors, a gifted tongue to easily convince people into doing what he wished, was stunningly attractive, and never gave up on a target. However, one feature that stood out from all others was his sense of satisfaction for the one whom he was taking the soul from. If his target was feeling robbed or short-handed, Vornwin doubled his effort to ensure this wasn’t the case, and possessed a general regret once his dealings were finished for the soulless victim.

As years transpired into decades, and decades decayed into centuries, the demons persona towards his goals began to lapse. A once proud collector had grown sympathetic for the ones he was unjustly robbing and upon being caught denying a soul, was excommunicated from the demonic realm, stripped of all title, and branded with a demonic symbol upon his back, labeling him a traitor.

Skills:

Darkest Desire – “You read my mind!” a compliment given to Vornwin countless of times by humans upon him producing what they truly desired in return for their soul. Through centuries of interpreting the wants of humans and elves, Vornwin has developed the ability to become highly accurate in interpreting the wants of humans and elves alike. These predictions range from conversations, actions and even combat. Because soul collections was such a cutthroat business and secracy must be kept, Vornwin was also able to hone this ability to block all his thoughts from those of weaker or equal mental prowess of himself, it can be breached if the opposeing force is far superior to him.

Metallic Conductor – Though his personal passion in battle is typically for physical combat, it’s logical to assume one will come across the occasional caster. After a brutal run in with a cleric, ignorance of this art couldn’t continue. Through his sword, Vornwin is able to capture any oncoming magical attacks which are then stored inside his blade. There are several ways to drain the energy of a spell from his sword, Vornwin can either drain it’s energy by allowing his weapon to be imbued with the same magic as was caste, fire it back at the caster, or discharge it harmlessly into the ground. However, the hold over the magic can only remain under two minutes, can only store one spell per blade, and can only be performed if the magic user is below or slightly more powerful then Vornwin. If the time elapses and Vornwin has not discharged the magical spell, the spell detonates with it’s original set purpose.

Swordsmanship– Vornwin’s primary combat ability and passion, the blade. Military operations were few and far between during his service with Hell, but when they reared their ugly head, Vornwin was the first to fight and last to leave. Through various military campaigns, Vornwin preffered the sword to be his weapon of choice, specifically, duel wielding one handed longswords. With his stature and physical strength, each of his blows are deadly in brute force. Vornwin’s technique is self taught, but with vigorous self determination he’s above average with this skill, but certainly not an expert.

Demonic Merge – One can never escape their roots, and who would want to when they can turn the tide of battle? A skill that is still of slight mystery to Vornwin, through experimentation he’s found that he can occasionally merge his demonic form with another demonic creature, typically, his unfortunate minion Gruglor. The natural downside of this is from lack of experience he’s yet to been able to harness it’s power, and commonly transforms the pair into a green blob until the spell wears off. If he ever mastered it, another major side effect would be that the power alone to cast such a spell drains his strength, and renders him physically weaker for quite some type.

Craftmanship- Over centuries one tends to get bored and reduces themselves to petty enterprises, Vornwin's was crafting. Varying from blacksmithing to carpentry, he's dabbled in them enough to understand basic concepts and patterns. By far he's not an expert in the field, but he knows enough for it to be deadly...to himself.

Weapons:

Agonies of the Damned – Thus was the title bestowed upon the twin blades, forged in the bellies of Hell itself, each were originally an exact mirror image of the other. To improve upon perfection, one blade was further tempered in the corrupt stream of murderous souls found in the deepest bowls of Hell, while the other was used to solely execute angels captured during the Angelic Campaigns. With the hidden ingredient of time working its way through the blades, each took its own personality.

Upon completion, the blade that had been bathed in the corrupted souls had altered itself into something all together entirely different to its original design. The once elaborately jeweled handle had been stained in the tides of blood and leather grip exchanged with demon scales; the bronzed guard had been removed, and in its stead a spiral of bone that matched the strength of steel itself lay in its place. But, the dominating feature was the blade itself, gone was the actual forged metal, now in its stead was a black void that reflected nothing but darkness; appropriately giving it the title of Darkness.

Trials in combat reveled that Darkness had doubled its own weight, but so had the striking power. Having feasted in poisons of sin and soulless beings, the blade is able to draw poison from the wielder, and absorb it into itself to feed its rage. A word of caution however was given to Vornwin upon his presentation of the swords, if he was to ever use Darkness without its accompanying partner, its corruption would poison his body and mind, driving him to insanity.

To every evil there must be balance, Cringe fulfilled this. Naturally from feasting upon holy blood, the blade had taken on a dark crimson tone, towards the outskirts of the edge, intricate inscriptions labeled the fallen angels that had been executed by this blade, each soul lost within it. The handle looked to be made of polished gold, the grip ribboned in white etched pearl.Golden angelic wings jettisoned forth on each side of the guard, intricately carved to show every minute detail. It hadn’t been named Cringe due to its victim’s reactions, but because the blood of the holy entities its slain had imbued the sword with healing properties and thus it was luminescent with soft glowing sheens of white light.

Through his own experience, Vornwin failed to find any error with using this weapon, however, he had never tried to butcher anyone with it. When under assault, if the blade tastes blood from the target, it bestows upon Vornwin magical healing attributes that heal his wounds. Having such powers comes with advantages of its own, for if the target’s blood is that of true evil, the more powerful the healing spell becomes on Vornwin, but the more righteous or innocent the target, the healing is negligible.

Home for these monstrosities were still their original sparsely engraved leather sheaths. Demonic chants once engraved at the top of the silver band had been roughly etched away with some type of file, the jet black leather lay in pristine condition and the silver arrow shaped end lay at the end of the sheath uninjured. Though too many they appeared to be of no importance, if Vornwin wished, once his swords held a spell within them, he may return them to their sheaths, to which the sheaths would begin eroding the spell and breaking it into energy, from that point it would be distributed within Vornwin’s body. The effects of the energy transference would be greater based upon the power of the spell, yet would take longer to fully transpire, unfortunately, it renders him weaponless.

Familiar:

Gruglor, a small brown demonic minion that towers over the ground at roughly 3’ 2”. The creature is capable of speaking demonic though mostly reduces his conversations to grunts or hissing. Two spindly legs carry him about, elongated arms drooping from his charred flesh shoulders. If fatigued, he’ll slowly hunch over, allowing his knuckles to be drug behind him. Gruglor has an odd complex to where he devoutly believes that Vornwin is his pet, and he the master. Upon Vornwin’s banishment from hell, Gruglor blamed himself for his creature’s ignorance and banished himself, no one even noticed.

Welcome to Althanas. It's clear you put some thought into this character, but there are a few things that will need to be changed to work on our forum.

Because soul collections was such a cutthroat business and secracy must be kept, Vornwin was also able to hone this ability to block all his thoughts from those typically capable of reading them.

The ability is fine, as long as it is possible for people with highly attuned psychic abilities to break through Vornwin's block. He may be able to deter or fool them sometimes, but he can't have a perfect block at level 0.

However, the hold over the magic can only remain under two minutes, and can only store one spell per blade. If the time elapses and Vornwin has not discharged the magical spell, the spell detonates with it’s original set purpose.

At most, you'll be able to deflect spells of people at or a level above you as a level 0 character.

Also, with your weapon, I'll need you to stipulate that the blades are as strong as steel and no stronger, and the guard will have to be changed to something no stronger than steel as well.

Anyways, once you make these changes, you're god to go.

At your request Vornwin's Darkest Desire skill has been nerfed to allow only perfect blocks of those equal or below his level, and entirely bipassed if the opposeing force is far superior. Spell reflection was corrected to the same level restraints. Lastly, the bone guard was stated as being as strong as steel and not indestructible.
