View Full Version : Sticks and Stones... How Ironic.

Calx Vir
05-31-08, 10:48 PM
Name: Calx Vir was the name given to him, but Calx doesn't even know it himself. People usually just come up with nicknames for him.
Age: About one year of age.
Gender: Male?
Race: Rock Golem.
Height/Weight: Calx stands at 6'1" and weighs a sum of about 800 pounds.
Eye Color/Skin Color: Jade green, his rocky body is formed from shiny black obsidian.
Occupation: A Ranger of sorts.

Personality: Calx is an eternally silent being, being mute. Considering that fact, it's tough for people for easily discern his intentions. But despite his rather jagged and monstrous appearance, he is a pacifist deep down in that stone heart of his. His actions exude compassion, whether it be walking through a forest and carefully avoiding stomping on anything pretty or helping a poor animal in need.

This compassion could be from the fact that he wishes to protect the very earth that he is made of. That would probably be the best explanation, because he can't do so himself. Calx will fight anything that threatens the natural beauty of Althanas and with a stone-strong determination.

Even to heighten the confusion that is this silent stone being, Calx seems to understand Tradespeak as well as various elven languages such as Drow. But nobody knows if he is intelligent enough to process coherent thoughts, or if he just acts on instinct.

Appearance: Calx is made out of jagged, solid black obsidian stone and that alone gives off a terrifying aura. Along with the fact that he can't speak, no one knows exactly what he is thinking and what his intentions are. His build belies his weight and is surprisingly slim in comparison to a normal golem. He is still much bulkier all-around than any normal human though.

Every single muscle is intricately carved into the stone (probably literally) which just shows his immense strength. Calx's face is also distinct too, and people who care enough to look at it long enough will notice that it does indeed change expressions such as happy or sad. His piercing jade eyes are one of his most distinctive features, sticking out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of his entirely black body. They glow faintly.

Skills and Abilities

General
Strength: Calx is the epitome of raw power and stands like a miniature mountain. His strength seems to climb exponentially with his age, probably as the result of his magical engineering. (1.7x)
Speed and Dexterity: Somehow, probably through magical means, the 800 pound golem can still manage to move as fast as a normal human, probably a bit less and his dexterity/hand-eye-coordination are also a bit less. (.7x)
Intelligence: Though mostly indescribable, Calx can listen and respond to other people as well as anyone else. He might not know how to do some things, so his overall intelligence is probably much less than a normal person's. He also can't read... Yet.

Nature Charmer: While not the most appealing to humans and other races of the like, lesser species such as animals (deer, rabbits, birds, etc) can't seem to resist him. If one were to see Calx walking through a forest they might even see a couple animals following him, or a bird perched on his shoulder. This is probably from the animals' instincts, being able to sense his compassion.

Also, Calx seems to have some kind of connection with animals, as if he could talk to them, connect with them and depending on the situation, an animal might even decide to stick with him in battle.

Environmental Protection: Calx is naturally resistant to the elements, cold, hot, wet. Though of course, say a dragon roared flame on him, he probably couldn't withstand it, as well as strong magical forces like fireballs. This skill mainly pertains to natural, environmental elements.

Stone Skin: Being made by magic, a lot of Calx's attributes will naturally improve over the course of time, as well as the protective qualities of his obsidian stone body. Knowing this, he can use anything on his body as a shield, corresponding to his current protective strength. Anything past his threshold will begin to cut through and break the rock, in relation to how much stronger the weapon is and the applied force. For example, at Iron level, things below can still cut but will require much more force than a steel weapon would. Protective Quality: Bronze.

Pain: When something actually manages to pierce the first layer of incredibly hard stone, it will indeed hurt Calx like anybody else and the effects remain the same (if his hand is broken bad, he can't use it, same with the legs).

Regen: Another of Calx's magical qualities. His body regenerates slowly and at any degree of injury, but the time that it takes varies. Minor breaks can take up to a couple days whereas say an entire arm was lopped off, it would probably heal in about a month.

Calx can breathe indefinitely in water, but with his weight he can't swim at all and usually sinks to the bottom of anything. So he fears bodies of water such as lakes with a passion.

Combat
Hand-to-Hand: Calx isn't the fastest with coordination and general movement speed, so when he fights he tends to use a type of weapon like a stick or something. But if needed, he'll attempt to throw out a couple punches or maybe a kick. It still isn't known if he'll become faster due to time, but anything can be improved with practice, even with a golem. (Below Average, Beginner)

Two-Handed: When Calx picks up a weapon, he generally picks up things that are considered enormous compared to his small form, such as a large tree branch, and uses them with both hands. His ability is limited to his speed and dexterity, but since his entire body is essentially a shield he doesn't have to worry too much about parrying and dodging. He will try to parry and dodge, of course, to avoid any damage done to his body. (Below Average)

Magical
Nature Telekinesis: Using a sort of natural link to the earth, Calx can levitate and manipulate natural items (sticks and stones) and use them, usually just bringing them into his hands. He isn't clever enough to use it in any other way. The distance at which he can use it and the size of what he can levitate will most likely increase over time. As of now, he can levitate small items (fist-size rocks) that are right underneath him.

History

Calx doesn't remember anything about his origins, or at least that's how it seems. But in fact, he is the creation of a powerful Necromancer, who had his first attempt in dealing with something non-organic. Most likely for the sake of some type of bodyguard. Not having much experience on the subject, Calx was born with his innate compassion and the necromancer, not really caring about Calx or seeing him as a type of threat, set him loose. Not much more is known.

Approved, despite your Alanis Morrisette-esque use of Irony.

Be careful not to powergame using Nature Charmer. If I suddenly see bears running at your Citadel opponents, I'll consider it powergaming.
