Ori

Name: Origrue [o-reeg-roo] out of Tauvyk [tow-vyke] by Kull, called Ori [oree]
Age: Nineteen
Race: Human
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Green
Height: 5’6”
Weight: 200 lbs, plus
Occupation: Adventurer
Personality: Ori is a young man of action, rarely words. He is driven by wanderlust and a love of hard living, and rarely shies from a challenge. His is a personality of intensity, of fathomless melancholy at the low and roaring, song-slinging, drink-swilling jollity at the high. He has only recently left his barbaric people in the hidden valleys of Istraloth’s greatest mountains, a simple and half-wild folk who mainly know strife and accept it unflinchingly. His views of the other peoples of Althanas are shaped by this background – civilization and the expectations of its people are new to him.
Appearance: The son of Kull is, like all of his people, of a broad, compact build. The life of a blacksmith’s son amongst the savage valley people has hardened his physique to impressive proportions: his limbs are prodigiously muscled, his chest deep, his stomach compact, and his shoulders heavy. His naturally pale skin has been subtly rusted and bronzed to warmer, latte-like tones by the Istraloth sun, and his hair is shoulder-length, indistinctly wavy, and very dark. His facial features are grim but not unattractive, marked by a heavy brow and remarkable sea-green eyes common to the people of Istraloth. It is difficult to overlook the man’s left shoulder and breast, which are decorated with five long, wicked claw-scars.
History: Among the isolated and forgotten valley people of Istraloth, Origrue was not unique. He was the eldest born to a blacksmith and a spitfire, and the only feature that differentiated him from others at his age was that very early on he was entrusted with uncommon responsibility at the forge. His father had suffered a spear-wound to the back before the boy was born, and thus the heavy lifting fell to Ori.
As a hunter and a tracker he was capable but not exceptional, but he fought in clan wars with marked ferocity and overwhelming strength, and was renowned even amongst his hardy people for being tireless and willful. Less was thought of his intelligence, curiosity, and interest in stories, especially those about the world outside the misty forests and looming mountains of his home.
When he was sixteen, Ori was attacked by one of the famed mist-bears and survived, earning the beast’s skin, a crude, hefty iron sword, a sinister set of scars, and the name by which he is known today – the word “Origrue” is derived from the name given to the mist-bear by the valley men.
Clad in bear skin and brandishing his sword, Ori led raiding parties to great success for years before the siren call of the wider world became impossible to ignore. He left his bear-skin to his mother and set off for the stoutest mountain, and whatever lay beyond.
Skills:
Physical abilities:
Swordplay: Origrue is a rather poor swordsman, having no formal training in the use of weapons beyond the most basic. For now, he depends on his innate strength and speed and sheer ferocity to lay his foes low. At best, his lack of training makes his style overwhelming and unpredictable to more experienced swordsmen.
Innate strength: There is nothing supernatural about Ori’s great strength and speed – rather, they are hyper-natural. He is no stronger or faster than an ordinary human of his height, weight, and build, but uses these impressive features with an animal cunning and brutality, especially when brawling. There is something disconcerting about the valley man’s stamina, though: he can run farther, sleep less, and endure wounds, poisons, and environmental extremes that would kill lesser men twice over. He is roughly one-and-a-half times tougher than most humans.
Animal fury: If his great strength and steely will were passed down from his father, Ori’s intense feeling and battle-frenzy was gifted to him by his mother. He is not a berserker in the truest sense as he is in complete control when seized by his gruesome blood-thirst, but this makes it no less troubling to behold. In this state, Ori is oblivious to pain and fear, natural or otherwise, and his already-hardened resolve becomes evermore unswayable. The blood-rage is exhausting, however, lasting the space of one post and resulting in heavier limbs and a deep, draining void of emotion.
Knowledge:
Survivalist: Origrue was raised in the hard, deadly forests in the valley of Mount Cruach. The wild is his natural home, just as city streets are to his civilized cousins. He is a capable tracker, hunter, woodsman, and survivor, and the frequent mists forced him to develop sharp senses. Furthermore, every valley man must be proficient in the skills of strong swimming and climbing to survive, and Ori was no exception. In dark and wild places, Origrue is able to move with great stealth at an average skill level, but in cities and unfamiliar climes he is significantly less capable.
Equipment:
Crude iron sword: When Ori left the valley, he did so carrying only his hefty iron sword in its scabbard, and the clothes on his back.
