Typically, when I spar or I'm in a tournament, they have judges that read and watch daily and that's their sole moderation purpose on the board. Judging fights.
I'm curious as to if they do judging like that here, to find faults and declare winners based on the combat side and the writing side of the battle.

I'm not saying anything in the way of the fight as far as Winter and I, but I think a judgmental encounter or interference would be appreciative - or I foresee this battle going on endlessly. Lol.

Might not be so bad, but ...yeah...

The way that battles on Althanas work is that you go until the thread is done, and if you die in the Citadel, you're assumed to have been revived. So go ahead and take hits, take bad hits, die.

Then you submit it for judging, like you would any other thread, and a judge will take it and give each player scores (whereas with a quest, the score is applied holistically). The better writer will get the better score and thus gain more EXP than the loser.

Also, speaking from the position of a former judge, threads that go on and on ad infinitum really tend to be ad nauseum, and unless it's good and gripping, it's going to take away from your pacing score and probably your action score to go on more than is necessary. If it starts getting too long, split it into parts, but ten pages worth of battle is really just stupid much.

Ten pages worth of anything is really just stupid much. Even five pages can be too much.

But to give you an average...most things turn out around 20-30 posts. That's 2-4 pages. Battles really shouldn't stretch on for more than 20 posts, unless it's pretty epic.

As a judge myself, I feel that I am as qualified as any to answer this question.

We don't monitor threads on a daily basis, because of the sheer number of threads that are written on Althanas. When threads are finished, they are submitted via the link to the left of the "quote" button. The writing is then judged according to this rubric (http://althanas.com/world/faq.php?faq=exp#faq_introexp).

We don't factor combat side or the eventual outcome into the judging; in other words, we score the writing and don't award points if someone wins ICly. This is due to reasons like bunnying and powergaming, where points are deducted, not added.

EDIT: Damn you Karuka. Even with a dead internet.

Don't worry, Jeff. I'm not the type to go on endlessly. 8D Thats just unrealistic. My character knows about the revival part of the Citadel as he's been there before, so he's not exactly struggling to survive as it is. He knows that if he dies, he'll just wake up naked in a room and some girl will come in, blush at his manhood, give him his stuffage and everything'll be fine and dandy.

But chyeah. Just saying that. I haven't been in a fight thats last 20 posts yet, so...who knows?
