[COMBAT STYLE]: Classical Fencing/Saber Technique
[HANDED]: Right
[SECONDARY OFFENSIVE]: Magic, Elemental Offensive
[SKILL LEVEL]: Below Average
[TECHNIQUES]:
* Fire Conjuring: Short range, usually within inches of her hands, low power, extremely low damage if used offensively, simple flames called to life by hand gestures usually, more than words.
** Flamebolt: Small fireball that shoots out straight and does little damage, but has a lot of force behind it, more used for knocking enemy off balance/tripping them up than damage. 15-foot range.
* Thunder Blast: Small bolt of lightning called down from the sky within 10 feet of Laurel. Does more damage than Flamebolt (moderate/moderate-light at best), and with a direct hit can stun an enemy for a second or so, depending on their level and lightning resistance.
[COMBAT STYLE]: Magic is used more to give her physical attacks a slight pre-emptive edge and a chance to strike than to do any real damage.
[ELEMENT AFFINITY]: Lightning/Fire [No real resistances to the elements have manifested yet]

[OTHER EQUIPMENT OF NOTE]: Headband and necklace both made of some unknown [to Laurel], though magic resistant black metal [they only protect themselves with their magic resistance so far, however]. Both have a symbol of two laurel branches surrounding a Bloodstone. Magical potential can easily be foretold from them, however, Laurel is as of yet unable to tap into their abilities - nor does she know what the abilities the trinkets may bring yet. Heirlooms from her father [headband] and mother [necklace].
[FAMILIAR]: None
[TRAVELING COMPANION]: Mist, a dappled gray mare of indeterminate breed, that must have come from some magic-saturated place for she's a bit out of place in the Dark Elf lands. Smarter than an average a horse, she responds tones in voice, inflections, and magical signatures in ways that one must only wonder if she can not understand every word you're saying. However, for all of that, she is very much so a regular horse in terms of other abilities.
[OCCUPATION]: Wanderer
[MARITAL STATUS]: Single
[SEXUALITY]: Unknown
[RELIGION]: None
[Detailed Statistics]
[PERSONALITY OUTLINE]
Laurel is quiet, shy, and generally reserved around the majority of the populace, much preferring to hang at the back of a crowded place and simply observe. She much prefers travelling alone than with the company of others, and proves to be frustratingly quiet when group travel is necessary, striking conversation is difficult with her. Her upbringing has also left her with something of an inferiority complex, and she's also sheltered, a bit naiive, and tends to stutter and talk quickly when put into stressful situations. She also has a tendency for bitingly, even scathingly sarcastic remarks and humor on the rare occasions she does let her what could be called 'more friendly' side show through. But that's not all there is to Laurel Delstrom, the scars of her tormented upbringing run deep within Laurel's heart, leaving her not only with a distinct distaste for the Dark Elves and their culture, but a part of her, as of yet untapped, that has the potential to be brutal, violent, enraged. All it's waiting for is a catalyst.
[HISTORY OVERVIEW]
Alternaq, a tiny, albeit fertile region in what could only be called the 'boondocks' of the Dark Elf lands, taken up mostly by a chunk of mountains that not even the Dwarves want, with the center being a lush valley between two guarding peaks. As far away from the capital and civilization as it is, new-world practices and ways of thinking are slow to be delivered and developed - old world prejudices and xenophobia run rampant through the sparce populace, and especially so through the small governing noble family who only really manage to stay in power due to the region's relative out-of-the-way location and the fact they've ruled for so darn long. The region is infected by a strain of racial supremecy - Dark Elves are the greatest of the many species that inhabit the world, and they, having absolutely minimal contact with the outside world, are the purist strain of it. Therefore, it should be no surprise no one reacted well to when he ended up falling in love with a human.
Miren, called 'Prince Miren' by many in the region due to his regal bearing, his overwhelming presence, his excellent political prowess and silver-tongued negotiation abilities was the pride and joy of the Alternaq ruling family. He was adored by many, and respected by all, a veritable role model. Sure, he didn't share the Dark Elves' racism, he even spoke out against it, but though his charisma and saved him from ridicule, it did little to reverse deeply rooted, centuries-old hatreds. So he set out to fix that. Under the guise of being an ambassador to the rulers of the Dark Elf lands, to keep his family in power, he left Alternaq for two years, seeking out ways to hone his techniques for overturning the hatred Alternaq held for outsiders.
It was while visiting the incredibly culturally diverse country of Coroné, Miren stumbled upon the young daughter of a simple merchant. He fell in love with her almost instantly, and before long the two struck up a whirlwind romance that ended with the woman - Finch Delstrom - pregnant. Shortly following that, Miren was found by contacts of his family, and they demanded he return home immediately. He left Finch, pregnant and heartbroken, promising that he would send for her when it was safe to go to his home with him - he had told her of the issues the region had with outsiders.
He never returned, he never sent for her. He was killed the day after he arrived, beheaded before his father and mother by his own brother in a fit of rage after revealing his human lover's pregnancy. It seemed like his influence really only had penetrated skin-deep to the people, as few mourned his passing, and fewer still remembered or spoke of him.
And here is where Laurel's story truly begins.
Furious and obviously not thinking clearly, his parents decided on one more course of action would be necessary: Hunt down the mother and child of their formerly loved son. They made use of a pair of former military assassins that had retired to the region and been infected with their hatred. It only took them a year of searching, for Finch had not traveled far from her home, to find her running her own small goods shop in a tiny waypoint town that didn't register on any but the most detailed of maps. They struck at night, killing Finch and burning down the town - but herein is where the story takes a bit of a twist.
Though they had been infected by the Alternaq prejudices, the former assassins were not from the region originally, and their sense came back to them. They may have been assassins once in their lives, but they were old enough, wise enough to know when orders should not be followed through. They could not kill the child, but they also could not flee from the ruling family, for the family had deep, old roots that extended through the entire Dark Elf kingdom, they would be put on the run. Instead, they decided on a different plan of action, they would bring the child right into the maw of the enemy, but they thought up an ingenious plan that would, at the very least, ensure she would survive until they could put a better plan into action. They returned to the capital of Alternaq, and through some silver-tongued negotiations, and putting their own lives and reputations on the line, the two assassins eventually convinced the ruling family that keeping the child Laurel alive would be beneficial to them: They could use her as an example to the people, what would happen to those that bred outside of their race. The two assassins whom saved her were ordered to keep a watch over her, and their own prides and reputations suffered for it, however, they didn't mind. Perhaps one day, they figured, they could use the girl to make the region see sense. They protected Laurel and supported her as best as they could, taught her swordplay, reading, writing, arithmetic, but she still was a source of ridicule and was physically and mentally tormented for upwards of fifty human years by the population. She was forced to do labor considered beneath the other elves, and treated far below how they would treat even slaves. She eventually learned how to shut down, shut out their words and ignore the physical pain and exertion. The treatment left her lank and underweight for the stocky Dark Elf breed, something that only added fuel to their repertoir of verbal assault.
Eventually, Laurel had enough - though she had what could only be an iron will and tolerance even the gods themselves would be jealous of, she needed to get out, she was only getting worse. With a little help from her assassin 'parents', a kind-hearted horse, and the cover of night, Laurel made her escape from Alternaq. It took weeks of hard travel, but she eventually made the human realm of Salvar, and from there she began her adventuring, eventually returning to Corone where her mother was born.
Herein is where we weave the rest of her tale.
