Fenem Respice

“Get back here you little mutt.” Fenem rushed through the underbrush, away from the vampire knights that pursued him. The leather handle of the broad sword was held tight in his right hand. It was his family sword. The pummel was gilded silver in the shape of a wolves head. Two more wolves heads faced outward, and the guards jutted out from their open mouths. The steel blade extended thirty inches from the guard.

He heard the whoosh of air as two silver tipped arrows flew past him. One imbedded itself in a tree a few yards ahead, the other went deeper in the forest. That was why he could not turn around and fight. He had to go fast, her had to escape, he had to avenge his family. Fenem turned his head to see how close his pursuers were. His long white hair waved in front of his eyes. It affect his sight an he did not notice the root.

Like a cursed hand reaching from the ground, it grabbed his foot and he collided with the ground quite unexpectedly. His hands closed over something wooden seconds after his sword retreated from his grasp. He heard his pursuers approach and he lashed out.

As he eyes opened the vampires were gone. Instead of the arrow, he held his odachi. The forty-five inch blade far extended the reach of the arrow he held seconds before. His hair, however, was the same. He been dreaming, dreaming of that horrible night so many decades ago. How could the memory not dull? It was as sharp and it hurt just as much as the day it happened.
The scenery did not change from his dream, it was still a forest. This time, however, he was not running from an enemy, Fenem was running towards a city. Haidia, which had recently absolved the banishment of other races, was his destination. It would be difficult to tell what would await him in the city, but he was willing to find out.

Fenem was about to put the sword away when something came to his ear. It was not a loud sound, or even one that was out of place. There was something in that sound that made him tense up. It could have been an animal, or it could have been something sinister.
