Twill
07-04-08, 06:16 PM
Name: Twill
Age: Around 20
Race: Human
Hair Color: White-blonde
Eye Color: Pale grey
Height: 5'6
Weight: 56kg

Personality: Twill is enthusiastic. That is usually the very first thing that people mention about her; enthusiasm. Her motto is 'if something needs doing...do it,' and it has led her far. At least, since she made it up a few months ago. Apart from that, there is little in the extraordinary about her. She is polite, but only when the person she speaks to is. She believes in human rights and the other countless things everybody seems to believe. Twill likes being with friends, but is comfortable on her own. She works hard when she has a mind, but usually delays labour until 'tomorrow'. Sometimes she thinks she is pretty, sometimes she thinks she is ugly. Most of the time she decides that she is just average. Of course, she's not fully normal, what with her...problem, but she likes to think that behind the problem is a perfectly average girl. And Twill is correct.

Appearance: Twill is small - shorter than average, and thin to the point of scrawny. She eats very little in order to keep herself light, and the food she does consume is usually very healthy; fruits, vegetables, some meat and nuts for protein. Her hair is fairly long, but thin and rather wispy, so she ties it up neatly to keep it out of the way. It is extremely pale, almost white, and her eyes are a very pale, diluted grey. She has an awkward appearance when standing still, as her limbs are a little out of proportion and her bones are grotesquely prominent, but when moving she is much more graceful. Twill likes to say she moves like a leopard - all sinew and strength - but really, there isn't much likeness.

Twill prefers to wear practical clothes, usually dull shorts or little skirts, and loose shirts and blouses, allowing more freedom of movement. When she does dress up, it is usually with accessories. She has an astonishing amount of earrings and pendants in her pack, and likes to show them off to the full. She is too squeamish to have more than the two piercings in her earlobes, but she makes up for it with sheer quantity around her neck and wrists.

History:

Twill was known, twenty years ago and more, by the more common name of Tabitha. She was a pretty child, with a mass of short dark curls around her pixie-like face. She then grew into an even prettier young woman, with longer chestnut locks that she styled in hundreds of different ways. She was vain, she was headstrong, she was disobedient. Her parents were very respectable, her mother a teacher, her father a craftsman specialising in metalwork. They were alarmed at Tabitha's behaviour and attempted to control her by setting her stricter and stricter rules. Janet was having none of it, and decided to run away. However, this was not dramatic enough - instead, she decided to elope. A suitable lover presented himself within a few months - she was very pretty - and so, Tabitha left her parent's house at nearly nineteen years of age. She died at just twenty from a wasting sickness.

As Tabitha believed in reincarnation, that is exactly what happened. Tabitha was reborn, to much richer parents, and named Wilhemina. Unfortunately, once she was born, it was immediately clear to her parents that this was no ordinary child. Wilhemina was a perfectly normal child...except that gravity seemed to work on her in reverse. She was drawn every minute to the sky, and keeping her at ground-level was extremely tricky business. Nobody could think why this was happening.

So, they went to a wise man. The wise man, being wise, decided that reincarnation had obviously got a few bugs in the system. He said it would be easy to fix - he took Wilhemina into another room, did something strange, and returned bearing the child in his arms. When he put her down in her cradle, she stayed there without the belt tied around her small frame. A miracle! her parents cried, pressing money on the wise man before returning home. It was then that they discovered the...side-effect.

The moment one of her small toes even brushed the ground, she was flung into the air by a force that no human could counter, seemed to go through great pain, and then completely forget what had happened to her. Her parents tried everything they could think of - holding her to the ground didn't work, as nobody was strong enough. Giving her very thick shoes to wear did not help, and provided an extra hazard as she was thrown from the floor. Putting extra carpet down was pointless as well. It seemed that all she could do was wander through life climbing the walls. It was marginally better than drifting off towards the sky every few minutes...but not by much.

The memory loss was also a serious issue. Wilhemina was nearly sixteen when after one brush with the earthy ground, she completely forgot her name, age and who she was. She walked around for a while, unable to remember a thing, and then left. She decided on a new name, Twill, which sounded pretty even though she had forgotten what it meant, and after recalling how to read, had the bright idea of starting a business. Her slim fingers were ideal for small, finicky projects, so she turned to jewellery-making. She wasn't terrible at it, and managed to get by. Twill attended markets and other fairs and bazaars where her products could be sold, and is currently attempting to raise enough money to open a small shop.

Skills:

Longer jumps: Currently 1.5 x a normal human jump.
Heightened agility: Currently 1.5 x a normal human's.
Heightened flexibility: Currently 1.5 x a normal human's.
Orientation: Has a hunch where things are, generally, and the right paths to follow.
Speed: Quite far below average
Endurance: Below average (she uses all her energy jumping)

Lasso: Has a small amount of accuracy with a lasso. 1 in 3 throws hit their target. Uses for swinging longer distances along the ground.

Twill is attempting to learn a little magic...however, as she forgets any spells as soon as she touches the ground, it is proving difficult. So far, she has only completely memorised one small ability:

Sparks: Can conjure a rather small spark somewhere on her body (must always be in contact with her body) that can vary colour and brightness to generate a small amount of light or a little heat - not enough to cook anything with or illuminate enough to read normal print by.

Equipment:

Normal gear (clothes, jewellery [none enchanted, just ornamental], food)
One small steel knife (self-defence, no skill with it)
Beads, wire, thread, wire-clippers, pliers (jewellery-making equipment)
Nameplate (contains her name and other things she needs to remember)
Rope (for her lasso)
