Zerix

Name: Zerix Orbane
Age: 18
Race: Human
Hair Color: Blonde
Eye Color: Blue
Height: 5” 9’
Weight: 124 lbs
*Personality: Zerix believes that actions speak louder than words. If he supports something, he will show it by action. He is loyal, forward, impulsive, and a bit stubborn. Unfortunately, on top of that, he is quite gullible. So, he could just as easily end up being loyal to one side of a conflict when he would really support the other if he actually knew the real story. Of course, he is completely oblivious to this, in fact he thinks of himself as not only strong physically, but strong-minded and -willed as well. Also, he is a bit claustrophobic.
He believes in the use of the body and simple weapons for use in combat. Guns and such seem more like magic to him than magic itself. Even that isn’t his style…
Appearance: Zerix is tall and thin and slightly-muscular, to put it simply. He doesn’t really have any particular ‘fashion’ or style of clothing. His only requirement is that it is loose and easy to maneuver in. He’ll wear anything from a T-shirt to a sleeveless to going bare-chested. He usually wears short or loose pants as well. His footwear usually consists of nothing or some sort of sandal. He doesn’t like shoes, he finds them confining. His hair is cut very short, not to the point of fuzz, but it won’t get in his way. His muscles are fine toned all over, but not bulky.
History: Zerix was born on the island region of Corone to two human parents, Nikolas and Maertha Orbane. They lived in a small, close-knit fishing village community somewhere on the south east coast, after an odd drop-off in the land, which cut them off from any access except by the sea, and of course the air. One could attempt the climb up the fault, but it was perilous. It was technically part of the Yarborough barony, but it was isolated and thus basically unknown. The entire village worshipped the deity of the sea, known only as Am’aleh. Like any other child, Zerix was raised to worship this deity. From the day he could understand what his parents were trying to teach him and his eleventh year, he believed in everything and worshipped the deity like anyone else in the village. Like anyone else in the village, he trained to be a fisherman. Like anyone else in the village, he took basic lessons of self-defense, though it was mostly traditional now. Like anyone else in the village; he was part of the community.
By the time he was twelve, that awkward age between child and young man, Zerix hated it. He hated everything, the sea, the fishing, the constant responsibility thrust on him, the community. He hated everything, except the self-defense. That was his escape. That was his ‘rebellion’, though it was really what they wanted, basically. After learning the basics taught to all young children of the village, Zerix yearned to know more. He wanted to be able to crush anyone who wanted to crush him. There wasn’t really much of a reason for it, he just felt compelled. He had only finished the lessons a few weeks before when he went back to his Master and requested ‘advanced’ classes. It was unusual, but the Master eventually conceded to Zerix’s pleas. And he learned.
Beyond the simple hand-to-hand combat he had learned as a child, Zerix learned more complicated techniques from the Master. He even learned how to use a staff in combat, the traditional weapon for the defense of the village. That was his favorite.
All the while he was learning he let everything else slip. He didn’t really believe that Am’aleh even existed anymore; he didn’t bother much with solitary prayer, but tried to put up a façade for his parents. Zerix showed almost no enthusiasm and much impatience during the usual fishing. He even began to slip away from the community a little. He tried to look interested at all, and thought it was working, but he was noticed. Zerix’s parents were the first of course, they were worried about their son, and they knew that he no longer prayed, they knew he was lacking drive. Would he bring wrath upon himself?
When Zerix was fifteen, they finally decided to confront him. They told him to stop practicing with the Master, that it was taking up too much of his life. They told him about their concerns. Zerix wanted none of it. They had an argument, a big one, and once they left, so did he. Zerix seeked out the Master and asked his advice. The Master told him that he should honor his mother and father, that he should listen to them, which only made Zerix even angrier. He left the Master’s house and ran to the fault. He was the first villager recorded to ever climb to the top and reach the outside world without the use of the seas.
Looking back, Zerix would not return though he might just want to. He made that climb on impulse, in a fit of rage. He did not think he would be able to make it back down without killing himself. From then on, he simple wandered from village to village learning from those who were willing and by the time he was 17, people didn’t seem to mind learning what he knew. He still wanders around the barony. He hasn’t yet settled in any one place. Nothing feels enough like home…
