... should I wait for someone who hasn't posted?

Some people get aggravated when I push to post at LEAST every other day, if not daily. It's not much to ask for when I want 10 minutes of your 24 hour day to post when it's something you've subjected yourself to and enjoy doing - apparently, unless you write because you hate it... lol.

I just wanna know people's thoughts on time frame.

How long should you wait for your 'partner' to post?
How long should you give them before asking?
If they started the thread but you'd like to complete the quest and the experience, should you continue on without them?
Or just botch the writing assignment and move on?

27th - He posted.
27th - I posted.
27th - He posted.
1st - I posted. (3 days - Announced Family Weekend in Arkansas)
6th - He posted.
9th - I posted. (2nd-8th - Announced family vacation)

So, I'm steadily on during the week, cause at work when no one is around - I'm on. On the weekends, Saturdays I usually am and Sundays, I'm not on at all typically.

Just wondering what people would think. The guy is new, so I'm skeptical that he might have started. Got bored. Then wont return.

Generally, if you're going to be an impatient little bastard like me, it helps to establish an expected timeframe for posts (ie Post quickly please or Looking for fast players). Otherwise, and especially if it's just you and one other person, you look like an asshole.

Well, I don't really care about looking like an asshole if I look like a dedicated writer in the same moment. ;)

And I, like you, am a little impatient.

I agree with Caden - ask only for 'quick' players and work out something between the two or three or whatever of you as sort of an expected 'post by such and such' time frame between replies.

As you know, I certainly didn't appreciate your impatience on our last thread; even though I had time enough to message you two or three lines 87163871376 times, my muse and computer time was limited because of certain RL stresses. The possibilty of such RL happenings for other players in the thread should always be taken into consideration.

It may be a possibility that the guy you are currently RPing with has left the site, given his newness and gradual lengthening of time between replies, but one never knows. I'd give it a few days.

You haven't fully experienced the aggravations Althanas can offer until you've had a thread go inactive and die because people stopped posting.

Consider it a right of passage.

Sometimes they come back, Sometimes they don't.

I once had to wait over a year on someone.

Lol. Said like a true veteran. I've been in the forum RP for several years and that's what aggravates me the most.

Had that happen to me. It sucks. :\
But patience is a virtue, and sometimes the stress of real life can easily slide itself between our fingers and the keyboard. Just recently I thought that it had gotten the best of my friend Ballantyne, but fortunately it didn't. I agree, you should put that you're looking for extremely active people; most of us can barely muster up a couple posts a week. But I'm sure you'll find people. :)

I just disappeared for about six months because of a crazy change in job and living quarters. My computer crashed to top it all off. Now I'm trying to get back in touch with anyone I was in a quest with, but I'm not even sure if I've talked to everyone (not to mention tons of people had disappeared from those threads).

Typically, I'd wait for about a month before giving up and calling the thread dead, but you never know when someone is going to return with renewed vigor. Now, if it takes a month for every single post, I'd start up something else to keep busy and accept that you won't be finishing anytime soon. If the quest is a major part of your storyline that needs to be done to move on to other things, I'd message your partner with a two weeks notice to improve upon the posting speed or ask for them to either write his or herself out, or let you write their character out.

Before you do anything though, remember to place quality over quantity.

I completely agree about waiting for really long, for the whole time I've been roleplaying its always been really fast, but in Althanus its usually atleast 5 days 'till someone notices ur thread. It's dissapointing.
It usually helps to find a person who lives in the same timezone as u, so that when ur up, they are too. =]

This is probably what I'll end up doing after a month of waiting. I don't think this guy is coming back to Althanas. Lol.

I once had to wait over a year on someone.

Ok. I was a bit off. It wasn't quite a year, but it was a month away from being a year. Anyway, just thought I'd post this link to show what happens when you are patient.

http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=1022&page=4

Check out the amount of time between post 33 and post 34.

I always had faith he'd return.

All you need to remember is one thing: Sometimes life gets in the way of things like posting on althanas, and life should come first.

If you look at it like that, I'd say 3 years is the max amount of time you should wait before giving up. After a month, it's okay to start wondering, after 6 months it may be okay to start nagging, After a year or 2, it's ok to stop checking every day, but only after 3 years would I say it's ok to give up entirely.

( By the way, that is in an Ideal world. Most people here are less patient then me. )

I'd suggest not being an impatient dork. Leave the house. We all love Althanas, but you can do other things with your time, too.

Couldn't have put it better myself.
