It was night. Lorenor had just finished grabbing a bite to eat, and prepared himself for a venture into the market. With gold to spare, the Spider Magi needed to upgrade some of his weaponry. Most importantly, a sword that he'd obtained during a recent adventure.
Lorenor felt the weight of the scabbard in his inventory and sighed. He needed to get that one particular weapon upgraded. Moving forward, the mutant found one of the vendors that were open all night. He needed to upgrade that weapon to make it combat ready. The thought of the goblin crafted sword falling apart on him made him cringe. He entered one of the vendors' tents that particularly appealed to him.
Moving inside the structure, he stopped when he was a few paces within it. There were some individuals browsing the store's wares as well. He nodded respectfully to them, his face hidden behind a steel mask. A vlince cloak and cowl kept his head completely covered, it was all black. His cloak carried with it no markings of anykind.
After all, these were dangerous days.
"Excuse me sir. I'd like to upgrade an old sword of mine." Lorenor said and walked over to the counter seeing that he was next.
Enchanted sword was acquired here (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=9553) thank you very much. I also want to upgrade a crossbow and a longsword. Damascus longsword downgraded here as well as crossbow both obtained here (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=8720&page=4)

"Hmm, an upgrade, sonny?"
An old woman walked up to greet the night stalker. While she looked like any regular old lady in her fifties, she was wearing the sooty shirt and aprons of a smith. Her hands, though wrinkled from the chafing sands of time, remained true to her skills as a blacksmith and did not stray from her mind's will. Upon seeing the sword, however, she let out a grieving sigh.
"My, that is one beat-up sword. Did you lend it to a goblin or something, child?"
Alita frowned as she mentally calculated the effort required to restore the weapon to its former glory. If anything, taking into account the integrity of the blade alone, it would require no less than a complete reforged blade to be replaced.
"Five hundred, if you're looking to get it restored to its old self. The enchantment may need to be redone, since we're looking at refitting a new blade in place of this old one. Is that fine, child?"

Lorenor saw the elderly woman approach the counter. She walked with an air of experience about her person. The mutant smiled when he saw her, his face hidden behind a mask that he wore at all times. His eyes narrowed and he prepared himself for the next task at hand. He removed his worn crossbow he'd obtained in Salvar.
"I'd also like this upgraded to masterwork status. Insofar as the enchantment goes, that is absolutely fine. I would like the whole package enhanced to masterwork status." Lorenor handed the newly produced item from his inventory into her strong hands. "Money is no object." He said calmly. "I would just like this job done."
Raven, nevermind about the damascus sword. I had it upgraded already in the Ye Old Shoppe thread. So its just the steel sword and the crossbow.

Taking a look at the crossbow brought an interesting sensation to the bladesmith. Although the old woman dealt with swords as her main line of work, she had experiences in crafting bows and crossbows as well in the past. After all, a skilled weaponmaster needed to know more than just one way to skewer an intruder.
"Ah, don't see this coming in everyday. Reminds me of my old days in the army..."
Carefully inspecting the crossbow design with her eyes, she realized it would require only a few replacements and some touching up to bring it to the customer's needs.
"Four hundred and fifty, mainly for service cost since I don't do much work on crossbows nowadays. Is that fine, child?"

Lorenor thought carefully and considered the practicality of the situation at hand. His business was drawing stares from the local consumers that were merely window shopping. The mutant simply kept his eyes upon the skilled old lady, despite her age, she was quite the handsome woman. Lorenor nodded calmly. He thought of something else that he'd wanted to take care of just then as well.
"Could you also do me a huge favor and upgrade my sword to prevalida material? I would deeply appreciate it. I have the money for it. I'd like it to be masterwork status. I'd also like the crossbow engraved with some black dragons if that is possible." Lorenor said casually. "The price is fine. I know I am asking for quite a bit here."

Nodding understandably, Alita pondered about what she should start with on the upgrades the man had requested. The blacksmith was not very acquainted with magical enchantments, but she certainly could do what the customer had asked for. The price would be their limiting factor, or so she predicted.
"For the masterwork Prevalida upgrade of your longsword, the price is two thousand gold pieces. The engraving for your crossbow will be figured into my price of four-fifty, so that should bring your entire payment to two thousand, four hundred and fifty. If you're not comfortable with any details of this custom service, you should tell me before I begin."
The old woman reached into a hidden pocket and took out a small wooden tablet, engraved with a burning feather in blackened charcoal grooves. Giving it to the disguised mutant, she instructed him on what he must do next.
"I will require about one week before the upgrades are done. Come back then and show me the tablet. We'll conclude our business then. As for now, if you're fine with my offer, I require half the asking price as insurance..."
Sensing the man's apprehension, she stuck out her forge-calloused hands.
"It's only a formality, child. I won't run away with your money, even if I wanted to."

"Deal." Lorenor said and took the small talisman into his personal packs. The mutant had long harbored ill feelings about the Bazaar, but he'd recently found that it had its uses. Lorenor nodded. He placed the full amount of money that she'd asked for on the table. He didn't bother to barter with her, he'd been asking for a lot. Bartering on such a transaction would be considered un-lord like in nature.
"A week it is."
Lorenor left the shop and went back to where he was staying previously.
A week later...
Lorenor returned to the shop and saw a different crowd gathered at the same place. He looked around and saw no familiar faces. Feeling satisfied, he approached the counter and asked for Alita by name and showed the resident behind the counter the talisman. "I trust everything is ready. If there is any sort of delays then I can come back when the gear is prepared." The mutant said casually. He would upgrade the enchantment at a later day.

"Here are your wares, young man. Take care of them well."
Alita laid the sword and crossbow on the table. The Prevalida longsword shone bright blue in the sunlight, shimmering with magic. Every detail spoke of the craftsmanship that went into the blade - And it very well be, for it was Alita's name which was on the line.
The crossbow had to be reconstructed with special wood, but it was nothing that she could not afford. The bow had been changed to Talymer, giving it extra power for the shot. A lever was added to help with drawing the bow, otherwise the design did not change at all. A dragon design had been finely etched onto its dark-colored oak surface, making it stand out even more.
"Thanks for using my services. If you have anything else, feel free to drop back here when you need it."

Lorenor looked at his newly upgraded equipment and nodded with satisfaction. Her skill belied her appearance. The mutant was happy that he'd stumbled into the shop. Lorenor took the money out of his personal packs, counting off every gold piece exactly. He handed her the correct amount. Two thousand, four hundred and fifty. He gave her the gold and took his equipment once the exact gold was placed on the counter.
"Thank you for you time and business. I appreciate it. I will come here often."
The masterwork sword and crossbow was now in his possession. The mutant had obtained her name from hearing the voice of N'Jal whisper it to him in his head.
"Thank you once again Alita. It was a pleasure."

"Drop by anytime you need anything, son."
After the man's depatrure, the aged blacksmith resumed her work at the forge.
It took her three minutes later, long after the mutant's disappearance into the bustling crowd, when a certain word struck her dumbfounded.
"...I never gave him my name!"
