View Full Version : Ink Blots: Sir Inkalot original

Sir Inkalot
07-17-08, 06:59 PM
Name: Fain "Bitterleaf"
Age: 57 (appears 19 in human years)
Race: Half-Dryad
Hair Color: Varies by season (Brown, Black, Green, White, Blonde, Red-Orange)
Skin color: Varies by season (Light and Deep shades of tan)
Eye Color: Brown
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 132lbs
Occupation: Traveling Druid

Personality: Fain retains most traits of a Dryad: he is a bit of a trickster like all Fey and has a huge reverence for nature. However, he is not blighted by his view like many woodland guardians and only looks ill on lumberjacks and hunters that don’t show respect for the land and overdo their efforts. Since he part elf, he acts like a Half-Elf would be expected to in many regards, like his respect of all life (this includes a minimum decent treatment of all beings) and general acceptance toward other races. Even if he sometimes tricks his friends, he is their ally through and through. Fain is intelligent, and really enjoys talking with other smart humanoids. He does feel some anxiety though about his perculiasr race, and has enjineered a last name for himself so he can fit in with general society better

Appearance: (Sorry about the size, I’m not sure how to shrink it) http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m17/tania_1991/Anime%20Boys/Lim.jpg
This photo shows Fain during late spring and early summer. At other points his appearance changes as noted above.

History: Fain is a rare product of a Elven Ranger and a Dryad. His parents were on good terms, but his Father was the traveling kind and his mother could not stray far beyond her grove in Concordia Forest. Though his father said he would return one day, neither a word nor glimpse has been seen by Fain or his mother for some time. Meanwhie, Fain has trained in the Druidic arts under the instruction of his mother. Now, even though he has progressed in his studies, he longs to feel the intertwined connection Fain’s mother approved a trip to search for this spiritual enlightenment. Armed with Cedarfury, an ancestral ally of the Dyrads, Fain sets off to find out who he is exactly and what his place in nature is to be.

Racial skills:
Treewalking: Fain, like dryads, can step into a tree and teleport out of another tree within 30ft.

Language: Other than Common, Sylvan, Elven(picked up through study), Fain can telepathically speak with any animal like a dryad. He cannot use the ability on magical creatures (dragons, manticores, kraken, etc.), but enhanced versions of normal animals are fair game(Dire, or other template). He also has superb animal empathy.

Magic: Magic: Ok...to clear things up then.

Light: Malleable light shines like a torch. No damage, but possible hinderance to creatures weak against sunlight.

Create Food and Drink: amount grows with level

Charm Animal: Makes one animal your friend for a limited time (Simple animals only)

Know Direction: Dicerns North

Summon Nature's Ally: Summons an animal to fight for you. Animal choices are more numerous and powerful as Fain gains levels. Amount of creatures can be increase, but power of each creature is porportionally decreased. Also elementals whose size increase with level can be summoned with this spell. (Simple animals only)

Entangle: Plants entagle foes within 20ft radius

Obscuring Mist: Fog surrounds you. 20ft radius

Equipment:
Cedarfury: A precious gift from his mother, this wooden staff is actually a treant bound into a staff. For a period of time, he can use his druidic magic to release the treant to do his bidding. Cedarfury, the treant’s name, is a resolute ally to Fain. He has slightly aggressive demeanor but is noble at heart. Woe to those who earn his wrath by disregarding nature. In staff form, Cedarfury serves as a channel and focus for Fain’s magic.
He also owns an average set of leather armor, a large amount of insects in jars for Twidlemoon, a bow with 20 arrows(just in case) and other basic traveling necessities. Cedarfury is about 1.5x the size of an average human. His strength liesl with/against physical attacks and can't do much against magic. If Cedarfury is "killed" he'll just revert to staff form and will be unuseable for a period of time

Familiar: Even as a young boy barely into Druidic training, Twidlemoon the bat has been a loyal friend and companion to Fain. Twidlemoon has an energetic personality but can be a great help to his owner. Part of a local species called a Ghost Bat, Twidlemoon has the ability to become an ethereal creature like a ghost or spirit for a short period of time. This species uses this adaptation to sneak up on larger prey and to catch the few species of insects that exist only as ethereal creatures in Concordia Forest. Also, his echolocation can pckt up ethereal beings. He is a fairly normal microbat and does not diet on blood, only insects.

Treewalking - I'm afraid we don't allow teleportation for level zero characters. Modify the skill or get rid of it entirely.

Magic - actually, you have to list all of his spells and he cannot have numerous ones for a level zero character, they can also not be exceedingly strong at this level either.

Equipment - can you please give me stats on Cedarfury like you would a normal character? How big he is, how strong he is, what kind of skills he has...etc.

Please make those changes and post here again letting me know, then I'll take another look.

Treewalking: I really don't want to ditch this skill since its kind of unique for Fain's character. I could decrease the distance traveled...say 30ft and allow it to gain distance as he levels up. Note it isn't to overpowered because in urban settings and desert, tudra, or simlar enviroments he'll have no acess to the skill at all.

Cedarfury: In DanD terms his size is large, wich means he's about 1.5x the size of an average human. His strength liesl with/against physical attacks and can't do much against magic. I'd like Cedarfury's power to build off of Fain's pwer, so he'll increase in size and such. I guess I need to mention that if he's "killed" he'll just revert to staff form and will be unuseable for awhile...not sure about exact details on time, but I know not to powerplay. I'm going to limit greatly the amount of time Cedarfury can spend in Treant form and increase it at later levels.

Magic: Ok...to clear things up then.

Entangle: Plants entagle foes within 40ft radius

Obscuring Mist: Fog surrounds you.

I'm content with that if its alright. BTW, if it is ok I will add this to the above character sheet so all the information is together. This way you don't have to hunt for it tough. Most spells don't do damage and a few don't harm enemies in any way so I think its pretty balanced.

I was going to ask you to edit it into your above profile anyway. ;)

Entangle - We'll cut that down to 20 feet.

Summon Nature's Ally - For now, you can only summon simply animals, wolves, deer, fox...etc. I don't want to see you summoning a dragon or a unicorn, of beast god of Concordia.

Charm Animal - once again, you can only charm simple animals.

Obscuring Mist - At a distance of roughly twenty feet please, and the fog is not extremely thick at this level, though it still reduces visibility.

I'll allow the Tree Walking at 30 feet for now, with the stipulation that you cannot use it constantly or it will drain your character of energy. Edit your above profile to include all this information and you should be good to go.

All right. It was dirty before, dirty I tell you. But now I have wiped it and made it clean!

Approverized!
