Name: Vehne L'ieren (Ven L'eer-en)

Apparent Age: 26~30 (see notes)
Height/Weight: 5'10"/150
Hair: Dk brown w/underlying currents of plum (hardly visible in shadowy light), cropped short and neat.
Eyes: Darker than hair, same plum undertone. Sharp and silent.
Skin: His forearms and hands are banded with a scroll-like, bitonal pattern that is one color his skin and one color several shades lighter. It is a racial marking, as is the plum undertones in his eye/hair color.
Body: Lithe, slender frame, like an elf, often mistaken for lacking in strength. He has an angular and yet graceful appearance, with a strong nose over a thin jaw and sharp, intuitive eyebrows. His carriage is confident.
Attire: Vehne dresses to blend. He most commonly wears comfortable and sensible tunic/trouser arrangements in neutral colors with little or no ornamentation, but he is not adverse to dressing loudly or differently if it will keep him part of the framework and not the main focus.
Visible Weapons: Katana-like sword, slightly smaller. Boot knife. The metal on both his blades is an iridescent white-ish material called Kyrsite (KER-site) that is mined in his homeland. It is lighter, but just as strong as, steel. The blade itself is called a kya.
Scars/etc: Various battle wounds including faint scars on his hands and jaw, linear but mostly insignificant marks on his arms legs, and one ripple of puffed flesh near his abdomen depicting a near fateful injury.

Accomplished observationist with sharp intuition and senses. Outwardly calm. Methodical and organized in both action and thought. Loyal to a fault and a dependable ally. Silently self depreciating, believes Gods are a fluke, and habitually broods. Enjoys intellectual challenges and skirmishing for leisure.

I would like to portray my character with a son. I know that roleplaying in an adventure based world is difficult with small children and families, but I have experience writing in such situations and am fully prepared to remove the son if/when an adventure calls for it. At the very least, I ask that I may write my solo with him included, and you base your decision on that. Here are his son's proposed stats:

Name: Evam
Age: Five
Appearance: Hair like daddy's, dark green eyes. Fair skin with drüin markings across his cheek, one arm, and side of back. Small markings on his opposite hand.
Abilities: Fadazoom! Maybe it's the drüin blood, or maybe the demonblood his father inadvertentely handed down, but little Evam can zoom in on his father's location like a bee buzzing for honey.

Drüin Combat Because of their relatively small population size, the drüin must train, effectively and aggressively, every eligible child born to them. This training is began young with increasing vigorousness, and focuses on weapon specialization and outnumbered/disadvantageous combat. A fully trained drüin adult warrior practices superior alertness, combat patience, quick and intuitive dexterity, and is fully attuned to their earthbond. one single warrior is roughly 4x more effective than a human in organized combat.

Vehne is only half drüin, so he shares this ability only on the surface. His lack of full blood disables him from becoming fully immersed in drüin technique, so his skills, while admirable, focus on the following;


Swordplay: Over Average.
Alertness: 1.5x human
Grappling: Average. Does not include martial arts or typical brawling unless/until opponents are steadily within grabbing range.
Knifeplay & Knife Throwing: Average.

Earthbond The Mother returns to those whom give. This is the underlying stone in drüin philosophy. Every child born of drüin blood (half or not) gains, in differing strengths and abilities, this gift. The basis is simple: Open yourself and give your energy to the earth, and she will give back. A drüin must find where they specialize in this skill, and hone it. Some heal, some garden, others devise offensive and defensive weaponry using the land itself, still others become guides or plantspeakers. Vehne, because he shares his lineage with humans as well as another entity, has a muted version of this gift, although the drüin themselves insist his earth tie is deep.


Vehne's gift is being able to feel the lay of the land. With concentration, he can "map" out certain features of his environment, like rivers and caves, or large creatures (or mass of small ones). On occasion, he can sense the presence of a creature/being he is familiar with from a distance. This gift is usable 3x/thread. At the cost of an additional use, he can use this ability indoors. Mother earth does not abandon her children because they are not outside, but her impressions are harder to translate.

His second bond related gift is his ability to feel his son's lifeline. He knows where his son is, and his most base emotions, as long as his location isn't overly distant. This ability is always on.

Detail: Earthbond Abandonment: A drüin's relationship with the earth is just that - a relationship. It must be fostered and cared for, and reciprocated both ways. Ignoring one's friendship to earth for a long period of time can lead to estrangement and the lessening of earth-derived abilities. Most drüin never or hardly fal out of earth's favor as cultivating the earthbond is as much appreciated by them as the earth, but there is the occasional black sheep. Half bloods have to actively keep their connection to the earth open while for full blooded drüin, it is a natural flow.

Vehne suffers from a disbelief in his earthbond, and thus he is susceptible to inadvertently allowing that communication to close and must struggle for days/weeks to reestablish it. Because the intricacies of the bond are not engrained on him the way they are his brethren, he understands these lapses in communication as a rejection, not an absent minded mistake on his part. This repercussion can be roleplayed as well as instigated by admins/mods. While suffering earthbond abandonement, Vehne cannot access his earthmap feature at all, nor earthsense. Acquired familiarity can still be used as it is also fueled by another aspect of him, below.

Demonblooded Vehne doesn't know it yet, but he's demonblooded. This is the main contribution to his difficulty to the earthbond because it competes for his inner attention. He receives no abilities from this aspect (yet), but he does feel a warmth, or burning in his body, sometimes to a painful degree, which he attributes to his tainted blood.

Country: Sueya/Avec Sueya: Sueya is a good sized country several hundred miles west of Althanas with a pale landscape and abundant fruit life. It is currently six years into its rebuilding stage from a bitter, destructive civil war where the drüin emancipated themselves from human/elven rule and established themselves as a new independent country in the lands off of Sueya's eastern coast. They christened the name of this land Avec Sueya.

Tension between the two countries is still rampant, evidenced by Sueya's refusal to support the new country, and its aggressive coveting of Sueya's main trade route, forcing Avec Sueya to trade from its opposite, treacherous shoreline which can only be approached via steam ship. Thus the only foreign relationship Avec Sueya has established since they have become an independent country is with Alerar.

Race: Drüin: Yep, straight up stole the name druid and morphed it. Drüins are an earth tied people with varying degrees of power (described above) and ethereal appearance. Their skin is patterned in a bi-tonal, flowy, scrolling design, varying in both depth and design among subjects. Eyes and hair often contain unnatural hues or undertones which are handed down through genetics. They have long lifespans with the possibility for an even exceptionally longer life for those that are true bonded (the ultimate earthbond). Typical lifespans run 200 to 300 years for a full blood and 1/4-1/2 that for a half blood. Vehne is currently 63.

Until recently, drüins have existed beneath a harsh and segregated rule. Over the last thirty years, they have joined together and induced a revolution that eventually freed and relocated them. They are now residing in, and building, and enforcing their new home. Again, more information upon request.

Vehne's Background: Vehne was born between a human/khieran union that eventually ended in fiery dishonor and planted him as a tot in an elven ruled drüinic reservation. There, he became friends with a young drüin named Rylin, and later, Mauhna. They became an insepperable entity, Mauhna gaining skill in her earthbond, Rylin steadily triumphing in combat, and Vehne, well...working on blending well into their shadows - until the first riots began and he became Rylin's right hand as Rylin stumbled into the role of revolutionary leader and united their people.

He fought steadily through the war, finding and losing love somewhere along the way. A woman named Ema had run away from her island paradise in desperate search of her brother, allied to the drüin. She found Vehne. He in turn located her brother and they managed to love and last until the very last battle, after which they learned the impossibilty of their union. Ema belonged to a sacred circle of priestesses, and foreigners weren't allowed on their land. She left pregnant and weeping in the hands of her brother, and a year later, the drüins prevailed. Another year passed, this in his brand new home of Avec Sueya, and a dark hair toddler tumbled out from an Alerian ship and into Vehne's lap, accompanied by a letter. Raise our son, it had said, and so he began.

Currently he is living and brooding in Aven, the main port of Avec Sueya, observing the hectic energies of his brethren, helping out when he can, and when he is not being a father. His son Evam is now five, and five years have passed since the war's end. He is ready for some peace and some quiet, maybe some internal restructuring of his own. His leader and friend, now titled as the drüin L'jiah, has other plans. He is sending Vehne as Avec Sueya's diplomat. Fiirst stop: thier ally Alerar. The mission is to gain as much information as Vehne can from all the regions of Althanas which he can traverse, and bring the information, and his insight, back to Avec Sueya so a diplomatic strategy can be put into place.

+ Equipment +

Kya (sword w/kyrsite blade) - has the strength of steel but is higher valued for its lighter weight. I won't sell this, or if I can't have it i'll see that he loses it early in his solo.
Kyrsite Knife - Same as above.
Light Armor - Leather vambraces, which he wears constantly. Greaves and Cuirass he keeps in his trunks unless he expects trouble.
2 Luggage trunks - contain clothing and necessities for himself and his son, notetaking material for his observations, documents confirming his citizenship of Avec Sueya, and his official title of diplomat. A few personal but story insignificant items of indulgence.
Gold - However much coin we're supposed to start out with, in Sueyan denominations.
