View Full Version : Robes and Linens
It was quiet inside the shop when Jordhan entered through the front door, ducking more than just a little to avoid the door frame, and the smells of newly polished leather and steel filled the air, so much so that the Shadow Meld was forced to wrinkle his nose momentarily before his senses were naturally dulled. The hard oak wood counter gleamed from a fresh coat of lacquer and as the massive man approached it, he was careful not to tarnish its surface to much as he knocked softly on it to get the attention of the keeper who was someplace else.
"A moment of your time please," the big man said softly, his voice deep with age and purpose. "And a recent catalog of your newest bleach cotton robes and Vlince armors, if you could."
With neither a word nor a stare, a small man with half-closed eyes slithered in from an obscured hallway. He was thin and frail with gray hair and a deadpan face. In his claw-like hand, he held a worn book. Inside it was an entire catalog of inventory, complete with pictures.
"You rang?" he said with a slight lisp as he laid the book on the counter. With a sudden motion, he opened the tome up, revealing hand made cloth armors.
The big man was silent as he slowly leafed through the aged tome. Inside its worn leather bound pages were all sorts and forms of armor, many of which that the ancient man had never seen before and some that were obviously way out of his price range. After a few moments of sifting through the pages he finally settled on a particularly simple set that consisted of a thick short sleeved tunic that extended just below the waist and a slightly less cumbersome pair of trousers. The tall man pointed to the page with a long white finger.
"This is what I would like, in bleached Vlince if you have it, as well as a robe of the same material, if isn't too expensive."
"I make good quality stuff here you know," said the shopkeeper with a frightening hiss. "Many a traveler stops by this shop in hopes of finding a higher degree of craftsmanship than the rift-raft that plagues other shops and stalls."
The clerk eyed the customer wearily, and then studied the picture he had chosen. After all, he'd need to recreate every detail to fit his costumer like a close.
"Vlince is reasonably priced. It's more expensive than linen, but that's to be expected. Because of the quality of my work, which is above average at least, and because of the bleaching process, the tunic and trouser combination will cost you one hundred and fifty gold minimum." Pausing to rub his large nose, he continued without even looking at his customer.
"The robe covers more of your body, so I have to ask one hundred and sixty-five for that, in addition to the other items."
The tall man nodded slowly, his appearance unflinching as the smaller of them rambled on about his prices and the type of cloth involved and this and that. A small smile appeared on the larger mans lips when the man finally finished and he nodded once, his eyes glowing with mirth.
"That would be quite all right good sir. How long until the items are prepared?" His smile was warm, genuine and he hoped the little man took it as such. No sense in pissing off the man who was to supply him with his newest wardrobe.
"I need your measurements first!" Squawked the clerk, who set about flinging himself over the counter and in front of his customer. With a cloth tape measurer in one hand and a pervert smile on his lips, he could only snicker. His favorite part of the job was causing his customers uncomfortable moments at the terrible ordeal of measuring.
"Once I get them, I should only need three days."
You can bunny what happens. Make it as uncomfortable as humanly possible.
The taller simply chuckled and stripped quickly, but silently to his underclothing. He then nodded to the short man and turned his back, lifting his arms to give the man ease of access. There was a long pause then the loud scrap of a stool across the hardwood floor as the man prepared to take the measurements. The taller heard the shorter step up onto the stool and then only silence as the other looked him over. The taller supposed he was a sight to see really, almost three hundred pounds of pure muscle, hard and toned to near perfection by his cybernetic implants. Still, as the silence stretched to almost a minute the taller began to feel uncomfortable, his back muscles rippling as he shifted.
"Ahem," he coughed lightly, his mouth twisting around tightly clenched teeth. "If we could hurry this up, I would be most appreciative." The sting the smaller man felt was thick in the air but the taller did nothing to fix it. The measurements went quick but not before the smaller man had taken full advantage of the taller mans half-naked position and by the time the measurements were complete the taller was slowly reaching his boiling point. He quickly dressed, careful not to take any longer than he had taken to undress, and looked at the smirking smaller man with a tightly contained fury. "Three days then," was all he said before gathering up his sword and departing the shop, as quietly as he had come.
Pervert.
*~* Three Days later
The shop door dinged quietly as the taller man stepped into the shop and glanced around. It looked almost the same as it had been when he first had come through three days ago, the only differences being slightly different items on display here and there. Closing the door quickly behind him the taller man swept over to the counter, silent as a specter and a fluid as a wolf on the hunt, and calmly rested his hands on the counter-top. The smaller man was there, crouched behind the counter but he showed no sign of surprise to find the taller there.
"It's been three days," the taller said simply.
"So it has," the smaller replied just as simply before turning to disappear into the back of his shop.
Thirty Minutes Later.
"I was at lunch," he snarled, with a sandwich in one hand and mayonnaise dripping from his chin. "It's union rules."
The clerk reach behind the counter and removed a large, brown paper package that seemed slightly askew and stained with wear and tear. He pushed it close to his customer, but kept one hand on the package and the other on his sandwich. Until he saw some gold, he wasn't giving either up.
"It'll be three-hundred and fifteen gold all together. I take cash, upfront."
The taller man had already dug his purse from his pocket long before the smaller had reemerged from the back, and let it drop to the counter top with heavy clink. "You will find it all in there, count it if you wish, or weigh it. Whatever suits you best."
His fingers twitched slightly, wanting to reach out and take hold of the brown package, but he held himself at bay, knowing that any sort of tussle with this man would only bring the guards down on him.
With one fluid motion, gold and package had switched places and the clerk was now richer for it.
"You're all set."
