Name: Aswa Saab (birth name is Reveille Harrier)
Age: 29
Race: Human
Hair Color: Dirty-blond
Eye Color: Dark green
Height: Five feet, nine inches
Weight: One hundred sixty pounds
Occupation: Candle maker
Personality: Reveille is rather unfocused and known to zone out in the middle of conversations if a stray thought distracts him. He’s not all too good with communicating and explaining things, and he’s quite slow to decide things. While he isn’t very trusting of people in general, he is always respectful of women. He remains caustic and sharp towards older men and is uncomfortable around his peers. His attitude towards others is probably why he almost never forms lasting friendships.

Reveille is slightly religious, but not too politically minded. His sense of humor is rather dry – so dry you sometimes wonder if he has one – and borders on morbid at times. He’s deathly afraid of possession and though it would probably be best not to show it, he usually does. Though Reveille has had little schooling and doesn’t read or write well, and has trouble with math, it doesn’t mean he’s stupid, though it appears he is conventionally. Reveille mostly learns through listening to others and waiting until he understands a situation before speaking.

Appearance: Reveille is of medium height with broad shoulders; muscled, but not overly so – not necessarily what one would call “built.” He has very strong, almost “pretty” features and his hair is dirty-blond, almost brown, and always kept cropped close to his head for easy care though on occasion he lets it grow longer. His eyes are widely set and a strange dark green splotched with a pale blue; at times of extreme emotion they can appear pitch black. They never seem to fix for too long on any one person; always shifting to something or someone else.

His skin is heavily tanned and the skin of his hands and lower arms is scarred by burns from working making candles. Around Reveilles neck and spanning from the skin behind his right ear down to end at his collarbone is a tattoo of a rope-like cluster of black pearls. Reveille is a slave to his paranoia, and a walking testimony of it. Wards against evil and possession are scarred and tattooed into his flesh, and metal, stone and bone symbols of protection hang from chains about his neck and swing silently from bracelets that never leave his wrists. Others are looped into cords and hang from his thin cloth belt, swaying as he walks.

Reveille’s usual mode of dress is tunic-style shirts, favoring an orange, red and black color scheme, and loose, rust colored pants, ending it at the bottom with leather flip-flops – if he chooses to wear shoes at all. His movement is fluid and calm, so that the ornaments he wears that should make sound do not. Every move is exaggerated and made with the right amount of care that no ornament hits another. Reveille smells strongly of mint and clove, though other herb, spice and wax scents can be smelled beneath them if you have a strong enough sense of smell. His voice is an easy, smooth tenor.

History: Reveille is a native of Coronè, where he and his family lived in Serenti the capital of the Barony of Tylmerande. When he was four the ship he and his family were on, which was headed for the Outlander’s Quarter of Fallien, wrecked up north on the western coast of the R’uuya-Spicelands after a terrible storm brought about by the neglectfulness of the captain of the ship. Apparently the captain had forgotten to thank Am’aleh for his last catch and Am’aleh had seen fit to send a storm to cause the ship to wreck.

The passengers and crew of the ship were thrown to the tumultuous waves. Though many made it to the blistering beaches of the northern coast, Reveille’s parents were not among the survivors, though his twin sister, Augustine, was. The Falliens who had helped look for their parents had recently lost children to the harpies that plague the Spicelands, and took them into their family as replacements.

Reveille and Augustine were renamed Aswa and Nari respectively, and with their adoption into the family they gained seven step-brothers and multitude of aunts, uncles and cousins. Augustine-now-Nari integrated well with the society, and Reveille followed after her wherever she went. When she joined the militia at twelve, Reveille-now-Aswa joined with her, not because he had to (though he did) but because he would follow her on any path she took.

Nari showed a great liking for life as a militia member, and though Reveille did as he was told, he often times paid more attention to working with spices and following his original family’s candle-making trade than to his militia training. The two stayed in the militia, Nari because she wanted to and Reveille because Nari was there, until Nari died fighting the harpies when she was twenty-one. Reveille led her to the afterlife.

Though Reveille was technically still in the militia, after Nari died he paid less attention to it than before. Instead he focused on his candle-making and his burgeoning powers as a psychopomp. Three years later – after he led a foster aunt into the afterlife – said aunt’s husband sold him to a merchant from Scara Brae. Reveille spent the next couple of years working for the man who’d bought him, though when the man died that all changed.

After the man died Reveille took off, figuring running was better than being auctioned off at the man’s estate sale, or given to any of the man’s children.

Skills: Militia training – Reveille knows how to defend himself from his time in Fallien’s militia. The only weapons training Reveille showed average skill at aside from common brawling, though, was fighting with a scythe, and that isn’t done in the way it’s supposed to. Reveille prefers to hit whoever he’s fighting with the butt or staff of his weapon rather than cutting them with the blade. Knocking someone out is always preferable to bloody gashes. [Average]
Candle making – His candles have different, unique qualities about them; some candles aggravate while others can calm, and still others clear the mind. It all depends on what he used in making the particular candle you’ve bought. The scents of different oils, spices and herbs have different effects on people, and even the coloration of the candle or the shape it’s in can have an effect. Some candles Reveille makes are capable of having the same effects on the spirits of the dead as they do on the living; they can calm or they can make them easier to convince of something. Those candles he rarely sells. [Average]

Psychopomp – A psychopomp is a form of a shaman who guides the spirits of the recently dead into the afterlife, ensuring that they do not remain behind to torment the living. Psychopomps have the ability to sense lifelines and when they are supposed to stop, along with spirits, ghosts and revenants. This often results in Psychopomps being drawn to battle grounds and scenes of crimes and violence, allowing the Psychopomp to locate the dead and help them pass on. [Above Average]

Psychopomp Abilities

Exorcism: The removal of malevolent and/or confused ghosts, spirits, revenants and the like from their current victim, location or object. Unlike a traditional exorcism, the Psychopomp travels into the Other realm in a trance (appearing as a Pharaoh hound (http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/JokerKirsch/PharaohHound.jpg) or a wild stallion (http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/JokerKirsch/WarHorse.jpg) to the spirits, depending on the spirit’s bent, hound to the moral, stallion to the immoral), using innate abilities and his or her candles to severe the spirit’s bond with the mortal realm. The Psychopomp can perform this on a spirit that isn’t supposed to pass on yet, one still attached to a form and meant to be attached, but it is against all codes (and would not be used in battle without a writer's permission).
Psychometry: The ability to sense the past, present and future of an object: how it was used, is being used, or will be used, any strong emotions surrounding it, the location of the objects owner, and (most especially) any deaths caused by or relating to the object in question.
Aurora Borealis: Some cultures believe that auroras are psychopomps in and of themselves. This ability allows this particular brand of Psychopomp to call up a ribbon of iridescent light from the air itself, acting both as simple light (extending in a ten-meter radius from the Psychopomp) and as a weapon (capable of shocking the victim, stunning them momentarily and knocking them back a few feet).

Equipment:
A kit containing various wicks, waxes, dyes, herbs, oils, and spices used for making candles.
Scythe – The staff of this weapon is six feet long and made of fire-hardened ash wood. The blade is twenty-four inches long and made of tempered steel with a razor sharp edge.

Familiar: A jaguar cub named Ananas who “adopted” (read: attached self to) Reveille as he was departing Scara Brae. Ananas’ magic isn’t really all that useful unless you have a propensity for spirit work: in the Other realm, Ananas acts as something like a guide if the Psychopomp gets lost inside his work.
